In February, unemployment rates were lower in 9 states, higher in 3 states and the District of Columbia, and stable in 38 states. Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 6 states and was essentially unchanged in 44 states and the District.

January jobless rates down over the year in 297 of 389 metro areas; payroll jobs up in 135

Jobless rates were lower in January than a year earlier in 297 of the 389 metropolitan areas, higher in 73, and unchanged in 19. Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 135 metropolitan areas and was essentially unchanged in 254.

Jobless rates down in 49 states in 2022; employment-population ratios up in 36 states

Annual average unemployment rates decreased in 49 states and the District of Columbia in 2022, while the rate was little changed in 1 state. Employment-population ratios increased in 36 states and the District and were little changed in 14 states.

Unemployment rates were lower in December 2022 than a year earlier in 244 of the 389 metropolitan areas, higher in 115 areas, and unchanged in 30 areas. A total of 172 areas had jobless rates of less than 3.0 percent and 2 areas had rates of at least 10.0 percent. read more »
