Hello. I am sorry for writing in English but I don't speak your language.

  • Trachóni (lungsod). If I am not wrong, the article is about the village in Eparchía Lefkosías (north Cyprus). But, the Wikidata item d:Q7831340 is about the village in Eparchía Lemesoú. Can anyone check to see if I am correct? (Although some informations in the article, like population, are for the village in Eparchía Lemesoú). The item for the village in Eparchía Lefkosías is d:Q7831343.

In Trachóni I have noticed that are listed two villages for Eparchía Lefkosías with the name Trachóni. But they are the same village. You have to replace the red one with the village in Eparchía Lemesoú. I have tried to find Trachoni of Eparchía Lemesoú but I guess there are no article in ceb.wikipedia.

And you also have a page with the name Τραχώνι. Confusing.

Editing of sitewide CSS/JS is only possible for interface administrators from now[usba ang wikitext]

(Please help translate to your language)

Hi all,

as announced previously, permission handling for CSS/JS pages has changed: only members of the interface-admin (Interface administrators) group, and a few highly privileged global groups such as stewards, can edit CSS/JS pages that they do not own (that is, any page ending with .css or .js that is either in the MediaWiki: namespace or is another user's user subpage). This is done to improve the security of readers and editors of Wikimedia projects. More information is available at Creation of separate user group for editing sitewide CSS/JS. If you encounter any unexpected problems, please contact me or file a bug.

Thanks!

Multilingual Shared Templates and Modules[usba ang wikitext]

Hello ceb-wiki community! (Please help translate to your language)

I recently organized a project to share templates and modules between wikis. It allows modules and templates to be “language-neutral”, and store all text translations on Commons. This means that it is enough to copy/paste a template without any changes, and update the translations separately. If someone fixes a bug or adds a new feature in the original module, you can copy/paste it again without any translation work. My bot DiBabelYurikBot can help with copying. This way users can spend more time on content, and less time on updating and copying templates. Please see project page for details and ask questions on talk page.

P.S. I am currently running for the Wikimedia board, focusing on content and support of multi-language communities. If you liked my projects like maps, graphs, or this one, I will be happy to receive your support. (any registered user group can vote). Thank you! --Yurik (talk) 05:58, 11 Mayo 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Update on the consultation about office actions[usba ang wikitext]

Hello all,

Last month, the Wikimedia Foundation's Trust & Safety team announced a future consultation about partial and/or temporary office actions. We want to let you know that the draft version of this consultation has now been posted on Meta.

This is a draft. It is not intended to be the consultation itself, which will be posted on Meta likely in early September. Please do not treat this draft as a consultation. Instead, we ask your assistance in forming the final language for the consultation.

For that end, we would like your input over the next couple of weeks about what questions the consultation should ask about partial and temporary Foundation office action bans and how it should be formatted. Please post it on the draft talk page. Our goal is to provide space for the community to discuss all the aspects of these office actions that need to be discussed, and we want to ensure with your feedback that the consultation is presented in the best way to encourage frank and constructive conversation.

Please visit the consultation draft on Meta-wiki and leave your comments on the draft’s talk page about what the consultation should look like and what questions it should ask.

Thank you for your input! -- The Trust & Safety team 08:02, 16 Agosto 2019 (UTC)

Binisayang Ngalan sa mga mananap, again.[usba ang wikitext]

As announced above, I intend to update the Cebuano names of various animals and animal groups, based on a list prepared by Josefwintzent Libot. I have received no further feedback on that list for quite some time, and so I will proceed with the update within the near future.

Meanwhile, I have checked the source I originally used to create the animal and plant articles. That source (Catalogue of Life) has been extensivley modified and updated since the original bot project in 2013. I would like to apply those updates to Cebuano Wikipedia, at the same time as I update the animal names. Does such an update meet with community approval, or are there any objections? Hello

The Wikimedia Foundation’s Community Development team is seeking to learn more about the way volunteers learn and develop into the many different roles that exist in the movement. Our goal is to build a movement informed framework that provides shared clarity and outlines accessible pathways on how to grow and develop skills within the movement. To this end, we are looking to speak with you, our community to learn about your journey as a Wikimedia volunteer. Whether you joined yesterday or have been here from the very start, we want to hear about the many ways volunteers join and contribute to our movement.

To learn more about the project, please visit the Meta page. If you are interested in participating in the project, please complete this simple Google form. Although we may not be able to speak to everyone who expresses interest, we encourage you to complete this short form if you are interested in participating!

Feedback on movement names[usba ang wikitext]

Our goal in this call for feedback is to hear from across the community, so we encourage you to participate in the survey, the open letter, or both. The survey will go through 7 July in all timezones. Input from the survey and discussions will be analyzed and published on Meta-Wiki.

Thanks for thinking about the future of the movement, --The Brand Project team, 19:44, 2 Hulyo 2020 (UTC)

Update of Lsjbot-created biology articles[usba ang wikitext]

The articles about plants and animals that Lsjbot created some years ago were based on the Catalogue of Life database from 2011 and 2013. I have used Lsjbot to compare the names of the old articles with the most recent (2019) edition of Catalogue of Life. Taxonomy has changed a fair bit in the intervening years, so there are quite a lot of articles that need updating in various ways.

Lsjbot has created lists of these articles, sorted by type of action needed. Index to these list: Gumagamit:Lsjbot/COL2019-check/Types of articles.

The types are:

  • Redirect: no longer valid taxon, now included in another taxon. Should be redirected to the other taxon.
  • Move to: name changed, move article to new name.
    • Move to (db): target for move found through CoL database.
    • Move to (iw): target for move found through interwiki.
    • Move to (trim): target for move found by removing superfluous periods and other improper characters.
  • Delete: no longer found in database. Lsjbot cannot find a move or redirect target, neither through database nor through interwiki. Interwiki only to other bot-dominated wikis.
  • Manual check: no longer found in CoL, but has interwiki to non-bot-dominated wikis (usually enwp).
  • Multiple: several taxa with the same name in database. Disambiguation needed.

I intend to use Lsjbot to perform the redirect, move, and delete actions in the near future, and then go through the new database in total and do whatever other updates are needed. Comments or objections?

Lsj (talk) 12:17, 22 Agosto 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wikipedia PH Month Project - January is Month of the Visayans[usba ang wikitext]

WIKIPEDIA PH Month.png
Major Philippine ethnolinguistic groups

Hello Everyone,

Wikipedia Philippine Month or simply Wikipedia PH Month is a monthly editing activity inspired by Wikipedia Asian Month. It aims to bridge knowledge gaps on Philippine content in Philippine language editions of Wikipedia and beyond. The participating community is not limited to the Philippines and is open to all Wikipedia editions! This activity also aims to encourage collaboration among Filipino contributors within the archipelago and in the diaspora, and create linkages among Filipino and non-Filipino contributors who support the main objective.

How to Participate in the Activity[usba ang wikitext]

As an Editor

  • Find the language edition of Wikipedia you would like to build on.
  • Register an account if you have not done so.
  • Choose articles about the Topic of the Month, but NOT from YOUR NATIVE LOCALITY, and start creating or improving articles.
  • Write in the summary box the hashtag #WikiPHmonth before saving your work.

As an Organizer

  • Set up and run the contest on a local level within your language community. (e.g. bcl:Wikipedia:Wikipedia Philippine Month 2021)
  • If your local Wikipedia is already participating, ask if you can help judge articles if you are interested.
  • Engage local editors and aim for maximum participation.
  • Organize online and offline events for contest promotion and increase in participation.
  • If you have expertise or skills in public relations, then you can help us get media coverage.

Topics[usba ang wikitext]

Traditional homelands of the indigenous peoples of the Philippines

Each participating local Wikipedia community runs a monthly online edit-a-thon, which promotes the creation or improvement of the Wikipedia content about a particular group or groups of people in the Philippines and the region they represent.

  • JANUARY - The Visayans (Region VI, Region VII, Region VIII, Romblon) are a metaethnicity race native to the whole Visayas, to the southernmost islands of Luzon (MIMAROPA Region and Masbate) and the northern and eastern coastal parts of Mindanao. They are speakers of one or more Visayan languages, the most widely spoken being Cebuano, Hiligaynon and Waray-Waray. They comprise the largest ethnic group in the nation.
  • February - Wiki Loves Love; Chinese New Year - Filipino-Chinese heritage
  • March - WikiGap; Women's Month - Filipina
  • APRIL - The Tagalogs (NCR, Region IV-A, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Marinduque) are the most widespread ethnic group in the Philippines. They predominate the entirety of the Manila and mainland southern Luzon regions, with a plurality in Central Luzon (mainly in its southeastern portion, as well as parts of Zambales and Bataan provinces except for Pampanga and Tarlac) and coastal parts of Mindoro. The Tagalog language was chosen as an official language of the Philippines in 1935. Today, Filipino, a de facto version of Tagalog, is taught throughout the archipelago.
  • MAY - Heritage Month - Highland Ethnolinguistic Nations (Cordilleras), Mangyan (in central Mindoro island), Suludnon (in central Panay island, and Negritos (in remote areas throughout Luzon, Panay, Negros islands, and Mindanao). The Igorots/Cordillerans live in the highlands of Luzon. They are primarily located in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Caraballo Mountains, and Sierra Madre. Mangyan is the generic name for the eight indigenous groups found on the island of Mindoro, southwest of the island of Luzon in the Philippines, each with its own tribal name, language, and customs. They occupy nearly the whole of the interior of the island of Mindoro. The Negrito are several Australo-Melanesian groups who inhabit isolated parts of Southeast Asia. They all live in remote areas throughout the islands in the Philippines. The Suludnon, also known as the Tumandok, Sulod, Panay-Bukidnon, or Panayanon Sulud, are an indigenous Visayan group of people who reside in the Capiz-Lambunao mountainous area and the Antique-Iloilo mountain area of central Panay in the Visayan islands of the Philippines.
  • June - Filipino-Spanish Friendship Day - Filipino-Spanish heritage
  • JULY - The Ilocanos and minorities in Lowland Ethnolinguistic Nations in Cagayan Valley Region (Region I, Region II) are predominantly Christian group who reside within the lowlands and coastal areas of northwestern Luzon. Other Ilocanos are also found in Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley. The Ivatan (also spelled as Ibatan) are the predominant ethnolinguistic group in the Batanes islands of the Philippines. They have close cultural links with the Taiwanese aborigines, especially the Yami/Tao people of Orchid Island under jurisdiction of Taiwan. The Ibanags are a predominantly Christian lowland ethnic group numbering around half a million people and who primarily inhabit the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela in the Cagayan Valley of northern Luzon. The Itawes/Itawis/Itawit are among the earliest inhabitants of the Cagayan Valley in northern Luzon. The Gaddang number about 25,000. They are known to have inhabited the upper Cagayan Valley and the Magat valley below Aritao in Nueva Vizcaya and in Isabela since before the Spanish arrived.
  • AUGUST - Indigenous Month - Highland Ethnolinguistic Nations (Tribal Palaweño, and Lumad) and Lowland Ethnolinguistic Nations (Bangsamoro). The peoples and tribes of Palawan are a diverse group of both indigenous tribes and lowland groups that historically migrated to the island of Palawan and its outlying islands. The Lumad are the un-Islamized and un-Christianized indigenous Austronesian peoples of Mindanao. They include several ethnolinguistic nations such as the Manobo, the Tasaday, the Mamanwa, the Mandaya, the B'laan, the T'boli, and the Kalagan. They primarily inhabit the eastern parts of Mindanao such as the Caraga, and Davao Regions. The collective term Moro or Bangsamoro people refers to the, at least 13, islamicized ethnolinguistic groups of Mindanao, Sulu and Palawan. The Muslim Moros originally had a few independent states such as the Maguindanao Sultanate, the Lanao Sultanates, and the Sulu Sultanate. The Sultanate of Sulu once exercised sovereignty over the present day provinces of Basilan, Palawan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, the eastern part of the Malaysian state of Sabah (formerly North Borneo) and North Kalimantan in Indonesia.
  • SEPTEMBER - The Bikolanos and Masbateños (Region V) are a predominantly Roman Catholic ethnic group that originates from the Bicol Region in Southern Luzon. They are the fifth-largest ethnolinguistic group in the Philippines. Masbateños live in Masbate province of the Philippines. Masbateños may be considered Visayans by language but are Bicolanos by region.
  • OCTOBER - The Pangasinan and Bolinaos (Pangasinan) are the eighth-largest ethnolinguistic group in the Philippines. They predominate in the northwestern portion of Central Luzon (entire Pangasinan, northern Tarlac, northwestern Nueva Ecija and northern Zambales), as well as southwestern parts of La Union and Benguet. The Bolinao people live in Bolinao and Anda, Pangasinan. They speak the Bolinao language or Binubolinao, which is the second most widely spoken Sambalic language in Pangasinan (after Sambal).
  • November - Wikipedia Asian Month - Asian Heritage
  • DECEMBER - The Kapampangans and Sambals (Pampanga, Zambales, Tarlac) are the seventh-largest ethnic group in the Philippines. They primarily use the Kapampangan language, which is spoken by more than 1.4 million individuals. The Sambals are the inhabitants of the province of Zambales, including the independent city of Olongapo. They are also found in the municipalities of Bolinao and Anda in northwestern Pangasinan. Sambals currently make up a large proportion of the population in the Zambales municipalities of north of Iba, the provincial capital. Their language, Sambal, is related to Kapampangan.

IMPORTANT: Admin activity review[usba ang wikitext]

Hello. A policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, interface administrator, etc.) was adopted by global community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on all Wikimedia Foundation wikis with no inactivity policy. To the best of our knowledge, your wiki does not have a formal process for removing "advanced rights" from inactive accounts. This means that the stewards will take care of this according to the admin activity review.

We have determined that the following users meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no logged actions for more than 2 years):

  1. Bentong Isles (bureaucrat, administrator)

These users will receive a notification soon, asking them to start a community discussion if they want to retain some or all of their rights. If the users do not respond, then their advanced rights will be removed by the stewards.

However, if you as a community would like to create your own activity review process superseding the global one, want to make another decision about these inactive rights holders, or already have a policy that we missed, then please notify the stewards on Meta-Wiki so that we know not to proceed with the rights review on your wiki. Thanks, --علاء (talk) 10:33, 13 Enero 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I am informing the community about this, and would be requesting their consensus for me to maintain these rights. --Bentong Isles (talk) 04:01, 15 Enero 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Proposal: Set two-letter project shortcuts as alias to project namespace globally[usba ang wikitext]

Please help translate to your language

Hello everyone,

I apologize for posting in English. I would like to inform everyone that I created a new global request for comment (GRFC) at Meta Wiki, which may affect your project: m:Requests for comment/Set short project namespace aliases by default globally.

In this GRFC, I propose that two-project shortcuts for project names will become a default alias for the project namespace. For instance, on all Wikipedias, WP will be an alias to the Wikipedia: namespace (and similar for other projects). Full list is available in the GRFC.

This is already the case for Wikivoyages, and many individual projects asked for this alias to be implemented. I believe this makes it easier to access the materials in the project namespace, as well as creating shortcuts like WP:NPOV, as well as helps new projects to use this feature, without having to figure out how to request site configuration changes first.

As far as I can see, Wikipedia currently does not have such an alias set. This means that such an alias will be set for you, if the GRFC is accepted by the global community.

I would like to ask all community members to participate in the request for comment at Meta-Wiki, see m:Requests for comment/Set short project namespace aliases by default globally.

Please feel free to ask me if you have any questions about this proposal.

Best regards,

Universal Code of Conduct – 2021 consultations[usba ang wikitext]

Universal Code of Conduct Phase 2[usba ang wikitext]

Please help translate to your language

The Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) provides a universal baseline of acceptable behavior for the entire Wikimedia movement and all its projects. The project is currently in Phase 2, outlining clear enforcement pathways. You can read more about the whole project on its project page.

Drafting Committee: Call for applications[usba ang wikitext]

The Wikimedia Foundation is recruiting volunteers to join a committee to draft how to make the code enforceable. Volunteers on the committee will commit between 2 and 6 hours per week from late April through July and again in October and November. It is important that the committee be diverse and inclusive, and have a range of experiences, including both experienced users and newcomers, and those who have received or responded to, as well as those who have been falsely accused of harassment.

To apply and learn more about the process, see Universal Code of Conduct/Drafting committee.

2021 community consultations: Notice and call for volunteers / translators[usba ang wikitext]

From 5 April – 5 May 2021 there will be conversations on many Wikimedia projects about how to enforce the UCoC. We are looking for volunteers to translate key material, as well as to help host consultations on their own languages or projects using suggested key questions. If you are interested in volunteering for either of these roles, please contact us in whatever language you are most comfortable.

To learn more about this work and other conversations taking place, see Universal Code of Conduct/2021 consultations.

Invitation for Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2021[usba ang wikitext]

Hello there,

We are inviting you to participate in Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2021, a global contest scheduled to run from July through August 2021.

Participants will choose among Wikipedia pages without photo images, then add a suitable file from among the many thousands of photos in the Wikimedia Commons, especially those uploaded from thematic contests (Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Folklore, etc.) over the years.

In its first year (2020), 36 Wikimedia communities in 27 countries joined the campaign. Events relating to the campaign included training organized by at least 18 Wikimedia communities in 14 countries.

The campaign resulted in the addition of media files (photos, audios and videos) to more than 90,000 Wikipedia articles in 272 languages.

Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos (WPWP) offers an ideal task for recruiting and guiding new editors through the steps of adding content to existing pages. Besides individual participation, the WPWP campaign can be used by user groups and chapters to organize editing workshops and edit-a-thons.

The organizing team is looking for a contact person to coordinate WPWP participation at the Wikimedia user group or chapter level (geographically or thematically) or for a language WP. We’d be glad for you to reply to this message, or sign up directly at WPWP Participating Communities.

Please feel free to contact Organizing Team if you have any query.

Crosswiki vandalism[usba ang wikitext]

Hi! Sorry for writing in English and maybe on the wrong page. I have been keeping an eye on a vandal, Angelmunoz50, also known as DaisyBus2017 on Meta and LiliaMiller2002 on Wikidata. Pagpatay kang Riley Fox and Pagpatay ni Riley Ann Sawyers are created by this vandal and typical of the articles that the vandal creates, that is they are partly correct (but machine translated) but with important facts wrong or unsourced. Mostly it is dates and cause of death but sometimes the wrong information is about nationality, burial place, height or other data. You might want to block MariaMiller30, and I suggest that you check all new articles about dead children against the sources. Sjö (talk) 15:41, 31 Oktubre 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sandbox link[usba ang wikitext]

Apologies for writing in English. Please feel free to translate my text.

I'm holding a global RFC regarding Sandbox link (example) at Meta: m:Requests for comment/Enable sandbox for all Wikipedias. I was told by User:Lucas Werkmeister that Cebuano Wikipedia as a large project does not have Sandbox link enabled.

  • Does Cebuano Wikipedia want the Sandbox link enabled?

If there is consensus for enabling that on Cebuano Wikipedia, I will do that as part of the global settings. But if Cebuano Wikipedia does not want that, I can simply omit the Cebuano Wikipedia from my proposal. No hard feelings at all :) I have personally not found Sandbox links harmful in any way, shape, or form. Thanks 4nn1l2 (talk) 02:26, 19 Pebrero 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dear Wikimedians,

We are glad to inform you that the 2022 edition of Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos campaign is coming up in July.

This is a formal invitation to invite individuals and communities to join the campaign to help improve Wikipedia articles with photos and contextual images.

The campaign will run from July 1 to August 31, 2022 and several communities and Wikimedia Affiliates have already indicated interest to organize the campaign in their localities. Please find your community or community closer to you to participate: WPWP2022 Campaign: Participating Communities.

The campaign primarily aims to promote using images from Wikimedia Commons to enrich Wikipedia articles that are lacking them. Participants will choose among Wikipedia pages without photos, then add a suitable file from among the many thousands of photos in the Wikimedia Commons, especially those uploaded from thematic contests (Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Folklore, etc.) over the years. In this third edition of the campaign, eligibility criteria have been revised based on feedback and campaign Evaluation Reports of the previous editions. Enabling Section Translation: a new mobile translation experience[usba ang wikitext]

Hello Cebuano Wikipedians!

Apologies as this message is not in Cebuano language, Please help translate to your language.

The WMF Language team is pleased to let you know that we will like to enable the Section translation tool in Cebuano Wikipedia. For this, our team will love you to read about the tool and test it so you can:

  • Give us your feedback
  • Ask us questions
  • Tell us how to improve it.

Below is background information about Section translation, why we have chosen your community, and how to test it.

Background information

Content Translation has been a successful tool for editors to create content in their language. More than one million articles have been created across all languages since the tool was released in 2015. The Wikimedia Foundation Language team has improved the translation experience further with the Section Translation. The WMF Language team enabled the early version of the tool in February 2021 in Bengali Wikipedia. Through their feedback, the tool was improved and ready for your community to test and help us with feedback to make it better.

Section Translation extends the capabilities of Content Translation to support mobile devices. On mobile, the tool will:

  • Guide you to translate one section at a time in order to expand existing articles or create new ones.
  • Make it easy to transfer knowledge across languages anytime from your mobile device.

Cebuano Wikipedia seems an ideal candidate to enjoy this new tool since it has Content Translation tool enabled by default.

We plan to enable the tool on Cebuano Wikipedia in the coming weeks if there are no objections from your community. After it is enabled, we’ll monitor the content created with the tool and process all the feedback. In any case, feel free to raise any concerns or questions you may already have in any of the following formats:

Try the tool

Before the enablement, you can try the current implementation of the tool in our testing instance. Once it is enabled on Cebuano Wikipedia, you’ll have access to https://ceb.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:ContentTranslation with your mobile device. You can select an article to translate, and machine translation will be provided as a starting point for editors to improve.

Provide feedback

Please provide feedback about Section translation in any of the formats you are most comfortable with. We want to hear about your impressions on:

  • The tool
  • What you think about our plans to enable it
  • Your ideas for improving the tool.

Thanks, and we look forward to your feedback and questions.

PS: Sending your feedback or questions in English is particularly appreciated. But, you can still send them in the language of your choice.

Section Translation tool enabled in Cebuano Wikipedia[usba ang wikitext]

Hello Friends!

The Language team is pleased to let you know that the Section Translation tool is now enabled in Cebuano Wikipedia. It means you can translate real content one section at a time using your mobile devices with ease.

Now you can also start translating an article on your mobile device right when you notice it is missing in Cebuano. From a Wikipedia article in any language, switch languages and search for Cebuano. If the article does not exist, an option to translate it will appear, as shown in the image below.

Image of the entry point

Content created with the tool will be marked with the “sectiontranslation” tag for the community to review. We’ll monitor the content created, but we are very interested in hearing about your experience using the tool and reviewing the content created with it.

So, enjoy the tool and provide feedback on improving it.

Thank you!

The Vector 2022 skin as the default in two weeks?[usba ang wikitext]

The slides for our presentation at Wikimania 2022

Hello. I'm writing on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation Web team. In two weeks, we would like to make the Vector 2022 skin the default on this wiki.

We have been working on it for the past three years. So far, it has been the default on more than 30 wikis, including sister projects, all accounting for more than 1 billion pageviews per month. On average 87% of active logged-in users of those wikis use Vector 2022.

It would become the default for all logged-out users, and also all logged-in users who currently use Vector legacy. Logged-in users can at any time switch to any other skins. No changes are expected for users of these skins.

About the skin[usba ang wikitext]

[Why is a change necessary] The current default skin meets the needs of the readers and editors as these were 13 years ago. Since then, new users have begun using Wikimedia projects. The old Vector doesn't meet their needs.

[Objective] The objective for the new skin is to make the interface more welcoming and comfortable for readers and useful for advanced users. It draws inspiration from previous requests, the Community Wishlist Surveys, and gadgets and scripts. The work helped our code follow the standards and improve all other skins. We reduced PHP code in Wikimedia deployed skins by 75%. The project has also focused on making it easier to support gadgets and use APIs.

[Changes and test results] The skin introduces a series of changes that improve readability and usability. The new skin does not remove any functionality currently available on the Vector skin.

  • The sticky header makes it easier to find tools that editors use often. It decreases scrolling to the top of the page by 16%.
  • The new table of contents makes it easier to navigate to different sections. Readers and editors jumped to different sections of the page 50% more than with the old table of contents. It also looks a bit different on talk pages.
  • The new search bar is easier to find and makes it easier to find the correct search result from the list. This increased the amount of searches started by 30% on the wikis we tested on.
  • The skin does not negatively affect pageviews, edit rates, or account creation. There is evidence of increases in pageviews and account creation across partner communities.

[Try it out] Try out the new skin by going to the appearance tab in your preferences and selecting Vector 2022 from the list of skins.

How can editors change and customize this skin?[usba ang wikitext]

It's possible to configure and personalize our changes. We support volunteers who create new gadgets and user scripts. Check out our repository for a list of currently available customizations, or add your own.

Our plan[usba ang wikitext]

If no large concerns are raised, we plan on deploying in the week of October 3, 2022. If your community would like to request more time to discuss the changes, hit the button and write to us. We can adjust the calendar.

If you'd like ask our team anything, if you have questions, concerns, or additional thoughts, please ping me here or write on the talk page of the project. We will gladly answer! Also, see our FAQ. Thank you! SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 04:14, 22 Septiyembre 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Allowing Wikitext editors to preview changes in realtime[usba ang wikitext]

Real Time Preview, Still Prototype.png

Please help translate to your language

Hello!

Community Tech has introduced a new beta feature. It allows editors to preview their changes side by side when writing in wikitext. The goal is to make it easier to review changes while editing. This was the wish number four of the Community Wishlist Survey 2021.

What does this feature change?

In the 2010 wikitext editor toolbar, a new button appears with the label “Preview”. The button enables a side by side comparison showing what the published content would look like. You can see an illustrative example on the screenshot.

We would like to check if the editing experience improves. If it does, we will make this change available for everyone by default.

What do I need to do?

If you want to try out our feature, make sure the New Wikitext mode beta feature is DISABLED. Feel free to provide feedback about the impact this new feature has on your editing experience.

See also: the original wishthe project page.

Thank you! ––– STei (WMF) (talk) 17:27, 29 Septiyembre 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Update on Vector 2022[usba ang wikitext]

Screenshot Historia da moeda do Tíbet - 2022-09-22 - Vector 2022 scrolled.png

Hello. I'm sorry for not communicating in your language. I'll be grateful if you translated my message. I'm writing on behalf of the Web team working on the new skin, Vector 2022.

We wanted to apologize for the delays in the deployment of Vector 2022. We know many of you are waiting for this eagerly. We have been delaying the deployment because we have been working on the logos. It has taken us more time than originally expected. Once the logos are ready, we will let you know the exact date of deployment. We are planning for either the next (more likely) or the following week. If your wiki doesn't currently have a localized logo, we encourage you to reach out to us and we can help make one.

We invite you to get involved in the project. Contact us if you have any questions or need any help, particularly with the compatibility of gadgets and user scripts. Thank you! SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 23:24, 19 Oktubre 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please help translate to your language

Dear Wiki Community,

Christmas Greetings and a Happy New Year 2023,

You are humbly invited to organize the Feminism and Folklore 2023 writing competition from February 1, 2023, to March 31, 2023 on your local Wikipedia. This year, Feminism and Folklore will focus on feminism, women's issues, and gender-focused topics for the project, with a Wiki Loves Folklore gender gap focus and a folk culture theme on Wikipedia.

You can help Wikipedia's coverage of folklore from your area by writing or improving articles about things like folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, women and queer folklore figures, folk game athletes, women in mythology, women warriors in folklore, witches and witch hunting, fairy tales, and more. Users can help create new articles, expand or translate from a list of suggested articles.

Organisers are requested to work on the following action items to sign up their communities for the project:

  1. Create a page for the contest on the local wiki.
  2. Set up a fountain tool or dashboard.
  3. Create the local list and mention the timeline and local and international prizes.
  4. Request local admins for site notice.
  5. Link the local page and the fountain/dashboard link on the meta project page.

This year we would be supporting the community's financial aid for Internet and childcare support. This would be provided for the local team including their jury and coordinator team. This support is opt-in and non mandatory. Kindly fill in this Google form and mark a mail to support@wikilovesfolklore.org with the subject line starting as [Stipend] Name or Username/Language. The last date to sign up for internet and childcare aid from our team is 20th of January 2023, We encourage the language coordinators to sign up their community on this link by the 25th of January 2023.

Learn more about the contest and prizes on our project page. Feel free to contact us on our meta talk page or by email us if you need any assistance.

We look forward to your immense coordination.

Thank you and Best wishes,

Feminism and Folklore 2023 International Team

  1. Jordz (bureaucrat, administrator)

1. The Editing team will finish adding new features to the Talk pages project and deploy it.
  2. They are beginning a new project, Edit check.

Talk pages project

Screenshot showing the talk page design changes that are currently available as beta features at all Wikimedia wikis. These features include information about the number of people and comments within each discussion.
Some of the upcoming changes

The Editing team is nearly finished with this first phase of the Talk pages project. Nearly all new features are available now in the Beta Feature for Discussion tools.

It will show information about how active a discussion is, such as the date of the most recent comment. There will soon be a new "Pagdugang og topiko" button. You will be able to turn them off at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion. Please tell them what you think.

Daily edit completion rate by test group: DiscussionTools (test group) and MobileFrontend overlay (control group)

An A/B test for Discussion tools on the mobile site has finished. Editors were more successful with Discussion tools. The Editing team is enabling these features for all editors on the mobile site.

New Project: Edit Check

The Editing team is beginning a project to help new editors of Wikipedia. It will help people identify some problems before they click "Publish changes". The first tool will encourage people to add references when they add new content. Please watch that page for more information. You can join a conference call on 3 March 2023 to learn more.

Global RfC filled to enable global abuse filters on large Wikimedia projects by default[usba ang wikitext]

Hello!

Apologies for writing in English. Please help translate to your language.

On Meta-Wiki, a set of global abuse filters is maintained by Meta-Wiki's administrators and the stewards. Global abuse filters are a powerful tool designed to fight against long-term abusers that operate cross-wiki. It is especially useful (and often irreplaceable by other means) when a cross-wiki LTA starts to rapidly change IP addresses (when that happens, regular blocks are significantly limited due to the IP hopping).

As of today, all small/medium Wikimedia projects (as-determined by number of articles) are automatically subscribed to global abuse filters. They are not, however, enabled on several Wikimedia projects classified as large (except several large Wikimedia projects who opted-in, such as Wikidata). This makes it possible for global long-term abusers to vandalize a project with no global filters enabled, which makes it significantly more difficult for the Stewards to fight against the abuse.

By this message, I'd like to let you know I submitted a global RfC (request for comments), where I propose enabling global abuse filters on large Wikimedia projects as an opt-out feature. This change will make global abuse filters an even more effective tool for combating long-term abuse at the global level. Please feel free to participate in the discussion, which happens at Meta-Wiki.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
