CSLB has offered Senior Scam Stopper℠ seminars throughout California since 1999, in cooperation with legislators, state and local agencies, law enforcement, district attorneys, and community-based organizations.
Seniors are a particularly vulnerable audience, often preyed upon by unlicensed or unscrupulous contractors. Senior Scam Stopper℠ seminars are an important tool to help educate seniors about hiring contractors, and to help protect them from being victimized.
Please Note: The Senior Scam Stopper℠ program has been suspended temporarily due to continuing concerns about the spreading COVID-19 virus. CSLB will resume offering these seminars as soon as health concerns subside.
Reminder about Bond Increase as of January 1, 2023
On January 1, 2023, the contractor license bond, bond of qualifying individual, and disciplinary bond, increased to $25,000 as a result of Senate Bill 607. See more about SB 607 in these Industry Bulletins from October 2022 and December 2021. Solar Consumers – Important Reminder
Contractors may not accept more than 10% of the contract price or $1,000, whichever is less, as a down payment on a home improvement contract (including for a solar energy system). A contractor cannot request or accept progress payment(s) exceeding the value of work performed or materials delivered on a home improvement contract.
