Mia Riley was asleep in a bassinet at her grandfather's home in Moruya, on the NSW south coast on Saturday night when the dogs suddenly attacked her at around 10.40pm. Her parents and several other adults desperately tried to save her and she was rushed to hospital, where she tragically died of her injuries. Friends of the family told Daily Mail Australia that the dog's attack was completely random and came after they had been dozing harmlessly near the little girl.

Duangphet Phromthep, 17, died at Kettering General Hospital on February 14 after paramedics were called to his Leicestershire school, Brooke House College, two days earlier. Opening an inquest into his death at Leicester Coroner's Court on today, Senior Coroner for Leicester City and South Leicestershire Professor Catherine Mason said a provisional cause of death had been identified, but did not disclose any further details during the short hearing. She said: 'A cause of death has been provided. The cause of death is provisional until the formal hearing. I am not in a position to proceed today. Investigations and inquiries are continuing and I'm not in a position to proceed.'

A grim-looking tin shed touted as a 'granny flat' and rented out for $1,000 a month will be destroyed after a furious neighbour reported the bizarre listing to council. The cramped shed, listed as sitting in the backyard of a Minto home, in Sydney's southwest, was reported by a member of the community after they spotted the listing online.   'It boils my blood to see the level of exploitation out there during a housing crisis,' the local, who did not want to be named, wrote in a community Facebook group.

Kerri-Ann Conley, 30, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her daughters Darcey-Helen, aged two-and-a-half, and Chloe-Ann, 18 months, last week. Supreme Court Justice Peter Applegarth sentenced Conley to nine years behind bars, and said she had shown 'gross criminal neglect' when she left the toddlers in the car for nine hours, when temperatures soared past 60C inside the vehicle. Conley had initially been charged with murder but that was downgraded to manslaughter, with Darcey-Helen's father Peter Jackson being told murder was 'too hard to prove'. If Conley had been convicted of the double murder, under Queensland law she would've served a mandatory non-parole period of 30 years. 'I still think it should be murder. She should have got the 30 years,' Mr Jackson said.
