"After a HomeAdvisor Rep spoke with me on the phone and neglected to mention that I was hiring a RANDOM, UNKNOWN "Pro" because they used the "Fixed Price Service" to schedule me, I was contacted by Hi Tech Handyman Services within 2 minutes of hanging up... I spoke to Corey (HiTech Handyman) for a moment, and after doing we decided to change my appointment day and time. after hangin up with Corey, I kept getting emails saying other "Pros" wanted to quote the job. I thought that was weird since I was already scheduled, and had already paid. Turns out, HomeAdvisor doubled up my job... one assigned to "Sam R." from the fixed price service and another that went out for bids to matched pros. I figured out what happened, contacted Corey explained things and cancelled with him as he wasn't the fixed price Pro I was assigned. The next day, I was contacted directly by "Marco" who said he was going to do my job... He asked if I had a ladder... I thought it was weird.. "Sam R." had the job the day before, and I had also spoken to Corey regarding the job... Well, since my "fixed" price included an upcharge for a ladder, I decided to reach out to Corey to see if he was still available for the Job. He was. I called Home Advisor, cancelled the "Fixed Price Service", and hired Hi Tech Handyman (Corey) for my project. After all of that, Corey arrived right on time, masked... He had everything needed to complete the task. In short order, he had a plan of action, and proceeded to complete the job VERY quickly and VERY neatly. Best of all, he charged me the same VERY reasonable rate I was given for the fixed rate... I hate when things go wrong around the house, but I kind of look forward to the next time we need a handyman as it was refreshing to work with a professional like Corey @ HiTech Handyman... 5 stars across the board..."

"Your just not going to find a more polite, knowledgeable and professional man than Mike. He immediately responded to my request . He drove to Mountain Springs to me residence and looked over my back up generator hook up to my breaker panel project. He ordered all the needed parts for the job the next day And 4 days later he had everything installed and running. Mike took the extra time to test each circuit for amp load and created panel labels identifying each breaker and the amp load for each appliance. Excellent job!"

"Prompt, professional and fair. I had a breaker that wouldnt reset. I tried troubleshooting the problem for hours on my own before finally breaking down and making the call. They were able to find the faulty wiring that was grounding out the circuit within a few minutes. Afterward, they added a dedicated circuit for my refrigerator in our garage. Our holiday lights would overload that circuit on occasion and trip the breaker, ruining all the food in the fridge. I asked them if they could fix the problem. Needless to say, a few hours of work and I couldnt be happier with the results. Thanks for a job well done."

"I normally don't write reviews but this pro definitely deserves not just a 5 star review but it should be a 10 star review. Axel, the owner of K&J home repair immediately replied to my request for dry wall repair in my master bathroom. I requested that he come out to our house to give us an estimate. He told me he could do that the next day. When Axel arrived on time the very next day and gave me the estimate and immediately offered to give me references, I knew he was the the guy for us. I asked Axel what other things his company could do and found out that they also did plumbing, electrical, flooring, painting and many other services. I had him quote me on 2 other services and hired him for both. Axel (K&J home repair) told us he could start the work in 2 days and would finish everything in 4 days. Axel and his workers showed up right on time every day, they were all very courteous, professional and expedient. Each day they were here they cleaned up and prepared for the next day. All of the work was completed on time and too our full satisfaction. The prices we were quoted extremely competitive. We would highly recommend using Axel and his company for all of your home repairs and feel free to contact me for referrals. Marty Faber"

"Previously, I used this electrician to repair a mess that another company left. MacBride did a great job and my family is 100% plus happy. On or about August 20th, the dining room lights "flickered for a second" and we did not pay much mind to it. The we started to smell an electrical odor, the breaker did not pop, and there was no smoke. While I love fire-fighters, it seemed to be a clear choice to get an electrician on scene a.s.a.p. Steve confirmed that the switch was bad and replaced it among several other projects we had done. Steve has opened my eyes that there is nothing better than a fully licensed and professionally trained electrician to properly complete these critical repairs. While completing these projects, he walked and talked me through the process including showing the prior inferior installations and repairs done by others. I am a believer. Steve McBride is the best. There is no one else I'll ever call again. Thanks for great job!!!!!"

"Excellent workmanship by Jason Vita. Installed wiring for exterior security cameras and replaced exterior wall lamps. In addition, he reattached the wood block to the wall that anchored my garage door and the opener until my garage mechanic could make a permanent fix. Jason answered my phone inquiries promptly on this project. I also appreciate the fact that he took off his shoes when working inside the house as I am a real neat freak. Exceptional service and communication. Highly recommend!"

"Challenging install of pendant and can lights both with dimmers. Anthony and Jeff showed up on time, worked hard and fast and did a great job. My father was an electrical contractor so I know good electrical work when I see it. These guys did a great job. I would hire them again for a residential or a commercial job. Oh, and their pricing was 1/2 of what i was quoted by another contractor. So great value for the cost."

Hourly Rate of an Electrician
Prices for electrical services will be close to around $150 to $4,000 depending on the project. Small fixes will cost less. Installing a new electrical panel might cost around $1,200. Directly talking with a local Las Vegas electrician is the best way to get a price estimate.

Frequently asked questions
- An electrician’s cost per hour comes in between $50 and $100. It’ll vary depending on your location and the type or professional you hire. Areas with a higher cost of living can expect to pay on the higher end of that scale. Licensing level may also increase the price.
- Usually you’ll pay a higher rate for the first hour. This covers their travel and time expense. Emergency or after-hours rates are usually higher too – expect to pay an emergency fee of up to $300 plus a higher hourly rate.
Electricians do a fair amount of larger remodeling and new construction projects but also common residential projects including:
- Installing a light fixture or chandelier
- Installing a ceiling fan
- Adding an outlet
- Updating or replacing a circuit breaker
- Installing or updating an electrical panel
- Adding outdoor lighting and other electrical features
For cost information related to the above tasks, visit our Electrical Cost Guide.
- Do you have a license to perform electrical work in this state?
All states require an electrical license or work performed under a Master Electrician. You should also ask how many on the job hours of experience they have. - Do you have insurance?
Never use one who isn’t insured. You can ask to see proof of insurance. - Do you have prior work references?
You might skip this for small jobs like installing a light or outlet. For larger projects, always get references. - What are your rates?
Always ask up front. Getting a detailed quote up front is the best way to go. - Who is going to do the actual work?
Often, a Master Electrician will come out to diagnose and bid on projects, but they have their apprentice and journeyman electricians do the work. This isn’t a terrible thing, in fact it’s common practice. The Master’s license is on the line with any work he supervises. - Is your work warrantied or guaranteed?
Any reputable company or contractor warranties their work, usually for at least a year. - Are you usually on time?
Overbooking is a frequent problem with electrical work. Often, a service call goes long, and they end up showing up at your home late. This common complaint is easily remedied with an up-front and honest discussion. If they can’t be on time, make sure they’ll call.
A truly skilled, well-equipped professional with a truck full of parts that charges $100 an hour can be a much wiser choice than an inexperienced hack, working with inadequate tools and no parts, but charging much less. Often, more experienced professionals get the job done quickly with warrantied work.
2. Compare Travel ChargesRates reflect travel times. Travel charges can have a big impact on your costs and are in some ways easier to compare than hourly rates. Many electricians spend a third or more of their time navigating traffic on their way to a jobsite. Every contractor must find a way to pay for the expense of driving each day.
3. Bundle Repair Jobs TogetherWhen you feel it’s time to call a pro, review your list and then conduct a mini-inspection of your home. Look for faulty switches and dysfunctional or crowded outlets. When the electrician comes, you’ll save money and time by getting everything taken care of at once.
4. How to Prepare & What to Know Before the Electrician Arrives- Be as thorough and detailed in describing your needs to your contractor. The more they know, the quicker the job will go.
- Before they arrive, prepare a precise list of items you want serviced. Electricians have budgeted their time for a service call. They don’t have time for additional requests once they are on site.
- Make sure the electrical panel box is accessible. You’ll pay for the time it takes to access it.
- Clear away fragile items, knickknacks and furniture from areas where you expect the them to work.
- If you have questions about the project, ask them before they start. Most are happy to run you through the problem and the process of fixing it.
- Ask about potential issues after the work is complete. During a service call a professional will spot any potential hazards.
- You’ll lose power to parts of your home while they work. Be prepared to pause anything you’re doing during the service call.
- In most cases you’ll have the option to either pay at the time of service or have a bill sent to you. You’ll be able to pay with cash, credit and sometimes check.
- By switching from ordinary incandescent light fixtures or bulbs to fluorescent or LED ones, you can substantially reduce energy consumption in your home.
- Motion detector switches can help you save money on outdoor lighting while at the same time providing very cost-effective security to your home.
- Creative landscape lighting and indoor accent lighting can make your home more appealing to you, your guests and potential buyers in the future.
