Reviews of Baltimore Masonry Wall Repair Contractors
Baltimore, MD
We hired this company to partially demo an outdoor storage area and then install new stucco wall boards on the upper half. Things began well enough. They contacted us immediately and an estimator came out the next day. He was very personable and responsive when we contacted him during the job. Unfortunately, the actual execution of the project didn't go nearly as well. First of all, while they did put considerable effort into replacing some of the rotted wood, they did not complete all of the services that we specifically requested as noted in the contract, such as securing the wood framing to the house with lag bolts and filling in the gaps against the foundation. Nor did they bother to caulk around the exterior of the new wall boards. So, when it rained, the water seeped right in. As a result, those brand new boards that they just installed are now damaged. Sadly, we have a range of other complaints as well. For example, several nails are sticking out of the boards into the air, nowhere near any studs, meanwhile, some nails that actually reached the studs barely connected and splintered the wood instead. Additionally, the men arrived late two of the three days without any sort of notice, and, when they finally did show up, both crews seemed ill-informed as to the particulars of the job. Plus, they left trash all over our driveway upon leaving. Last, but certainly not least, our door, which had been professionally hung and leveled at considerable cost, no longer closes and locks properly. It’s been knocked out of alignment--something they either didn't check prior to wrapping up the job, or didn't care enough to fix. From start to finish, our job was riddled with miscommunication, poor work ethic, and plain old disrespect. I don’t know if our crew was inept or just lazy, but this is, beyond a doubt, the shoddiest workmanship we have ever received. Nor was it cheap. Honestly, we expect quality workmanship for our money. What we received was far from it. To say we are dissatisfied, would be a huge understatement. UPDATE: Shortly after publishing our review, we were contacted by multiple representatives from the company, eager to make amends for our dissatisfaction. I spoke with Vanessa, who was very understanding and apologetic. Though we refused the company's offer to come out and fix most of the issues previously mentioned (mainly because we'd already corrected them ourselves), we did accept a $100 Visa gift card from the owner, as well as their agreement to realign our door. For this, they sent one of their door specialists. Will and Melvin came out two days later, arrived an hour earlier than expected, and did an absolutely outstanding job. After working diligently all day long, they not only realigned our door, they actually replaced it (along with some rotted wood in the frame), before leveling the door, caulking around it, and adding some very nice vinyl trim. All at no cost to us. They did a beautiful job; we are very, very pleased. Quite honestly, their work alone deserved 6*, but sadly the other crew's performance dragged the overall rating down. Anyway, in light of the company's customer service efforts, as well as the outstanding work done by Will and Melvin, we have decided to amend our rating from 2* to 4*.
