They built a new addition on the back of our house, as well as a new deck off to the side of the addition (with two entry points--the addition and the existing house structure). We got 3 estimates before doing our renovation. Tom gave us the most detailed proposal, and was able to walk us through each expected expense. We got the feeling Tom was the best person and company to go with, and we were right! Tom is knowledgeable, honest, and responsive. He checked in on the progress of the addition daily, and always answered his phone when I called. - Stafford & Son BuildersFrom the initial contact, Tom Stafford was responsive, friendly and thorough. He was very receptive to what we wanted for our new addition, but was also able to provide some guidance based on his previous experience. He gave an itemized quote, that was within the budget that we had anticipated. We stayed on budget during the project, even with a few upgrades/add ons that I had not anticipated wanting (but were worth it). His estimated timeline was 3-4 months for our project, and exceeded our expectations as the project was completed within 11 weeks. All of his subs were professional, courteous and provided excellent work. Tom was also sure to provide feedback and updates routinely to keep us informed. Our addition involved knocking down the backside wall of our brick ranch home, and adding on a master suite and a sunroom. The master suite is a carpeted bedroom, walk in closet and master bath. The sunroom included double french doors exiting the house to the back patio and a hardwood floor. He also added an enclosed outdoor shower on a different section of the house. We are incredibly pleased with the product and the experience. We would not hesitate to recommend Stafford and Son to others
- Stafford & Son BuildersMy wife and I were completely satisfied with the conduct and execution of the entire product. Mr. Tom Stafford met with us in early January and quickly delivered a proposal for our new room. Tom met with us before, during and after construction, answering all our questions and addressed all concerns promptly. Additionally, he was on sight daily to provide project oversight and quality control. He coordinated all required city inspections and cleared all necessary architectural changes with our Glenwood Homeowners Association. Our room was completed ahead of schedule and under budget. I purposefully delayed writing this review until we had actually used the room for a while. This room is exactly what we wanted, thanks largely to Mr. Stafford's helpful suggestions and guidance during the project. My wife and I are retired and were home during building. I can say without a doubt that construction of this room is of the highest quality. The craftsmen that built our room; the carpenters, electricians, HVAC and flooring installers, plasterers, and painters were all top-notch. We have used this room in cold weather (mid 30's) and hot weather (low 90's). Our new sunroom is probably the most comfortable room in the house. We have always had a central HVAC and the performance of the Daikon Mini-split heating/cooling unit has been a pleasant revelation. It is very quiet and maintains the room at our perfect temperature. Bottom line, we love our room, highly recommend Stafford and Son Builders, and we will use them again for any future remodeling projects we may undertake. I was unable to input the cost of this project in the space provided. The final cost was $34,000 and it was money well spent for my wife and I
- D L HARTMANN INCWe had been batting the idea around for a while to either have a sunroom built or a Sunsetter awning installed. After considering costs., we opted for the Sunsetter awning. From the Sunsetter web site, we called two of the listed approved contractors. The first, didn't return our call until that evening. D. L. Hartmann responded to the house within the hour we called. He took the measurements, gave us options (we already knew what colors and features we wanted). We ordered the wind sensor. A device that lets the awning automatically retract to prevent damage during strong winds. A front and side 'weather break'. A privacy cloth screen that keeps rain away. You can see out, but you can't see in. And the 6 electric light package. The custom made unit arrived in about 10 days. Mr. Hartmann didn't come, but 2 of his install guys arrived early. It took about 4 hours for them to install the motorized awning. I'm really glad we had them install the 20 foot awning. I don't think Linda and I could have handled that project on our own. One of the light globes had a small hole in it. Sunsetter replaced it quickly, no charge, no shipping. Mr. Hartmann delivered it the morning it arrived. I had asked Mr. Hartmann for the 2 siding sections the install guys removed to install the awning. (Through normal wear and tear a section of siding had worked loose in one spot, and damage to the siding caused by me weed whacking the lawn in another spot). He said that the sections had already been discarded. But instead he delivered 5 sections same color same style for free! Not a week later. The guys were very friendly, very informative. Told me how to care for the unit, and showed me how the wind sensor worked. I'm impressed with the awning. It's nice to sit out back in the evening. It's like we had an extra room added on, on the cheap. I'm impressed with the contractor and his staff. Very personable folk. I would recommend both the product and the installer

"I'll admit I never heard of Ogburn Construction before I hired them. My wife and I "found" them at the Home Show last fall. To cut to the chase, Ogburn exceeded the very high expectations they set for themselves when they won the work from a much bigger higher profile company. From the initial sales meeting to the last day of work, the experience could not have been better. Our job was a big one which included providing structural support for the entire very long driveway, leveling several uneven driveway panels and finally power washing and sealing the driveway. Ogburn's price came in just under around the price quote of a very large well known company in town. The crew was punctual all 4 days, very professional, personable, and informative answering all of our questions along the way. Most impressive was the work ethic witnessed during 4 very hot days in July, two of which hit 100 degrees. Dave Ogburn, the owner of the family-owned business stopped in unexpectedly on day 2 to check in on the progress and to introduce himself and answer questions. His interest was genuine and his visit much appreciated. Son Taylor, who educated us about the project scope and services and about Ogburn the company, was our first dealing with the company. He was very impressive and the complete opposite of a pushy salesman and he was always available for questions before and after we hired them. Finally, the work quality of the finished product was absolutely perfect. My wife runs her own business and that was one of the factors that weighed into my decision to hire Ogburn over another extremely reputable and well known company in the Richmond area - a company I've used before for other projects with great satisfaction. It is rare to hire a contractor for a big job and not have any nits, no matter how small, to complain about during the course of the project. But this was that rare case. "K & B performed splendidly. The owner, Scott Dickey, quoted a fair price and stuck to it. There were no hidden costs. He saw to it that the job was done on time and on budget. Unlike many contractors, Scott obtained all the final inspection certificates from the city. Without them, we would be unable to sell the house. Typically, the homeowner finds out about missing inspection certificates years after the completion of the work.
<br /> K & B's crews were always polite, on time, and businesslike. They paid attention to detail. They cleaned up after every phase of construction. The foreman, George Henderson, often appeared at my home at the end of the day, after working on other projects, and saw to it that the day's work at my home was done properly. He personally finished out the final punch list.
<br /> I can only say that this was a job well done. My comments are similar for the work that K & B did in 2012. Here is one story to illustrate: On November 21st, Thanksgiving eve, after our many guests had arrived for a family reunion, the outdoor gas log fire set ceased working. After I made an afternoon call to K & B's office, George Henderson appeared. Although not familiar with gas log sets, and lacking written instructions, he called the manufacturer to discover the cause of the problem. He went to a store, personally paid for materials needed, and installed them, all the while surrounded by family members who were giving him plentiful but unneeded advice. I told him that he was worth his weight in gold.
<br /> I would heartily recommend K & B Construction Inc. to anyone. You simply can't go wrong with Scott Dickey doing the job.
