I’ll never forget the kindness, warmth and generosity of the people in 大利侗寨. San Jie used to work in factories sewing & now makes clothes for villagers & shows me their traditional Dong minority clothing. Her eldest daughter works in the factories & she cares for grandkids

The villagers are open and kind, allowing us into their homes and letting us join in on their Lunar New Year traditions - like making fresh ciba (sticky rice treat), drinking their homemade rice liquor, and witnessing the pig slaughtering & feast afterwards.

We went to Dali (大利侗寨), a tiny village in southeast Guizhou province, nestled deep within the mountains. Villagers tell me about long separations they endure away from their kids, while working in factories & how zero covid had made it all even harder

Experts say this may be an official response to the international criticism, but say there’s still huge gap b/t official count of Covid deaths and the international estimate. So it won’t quell doubts on the government figures

Visited production floor of big pharmaceutical manufacturer in Beijing. It's going into overdrive to meet demand for fever drugs. I asked if they received any advance warning from gov that they would abandon zero covid so they could prepare and stock up. Wouldn't directly answer
