National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP)

The National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) provides third-party accreditation to testing and calibration laboratories in response to legislative actions or requests from government agencies or private-sector organizations. NVLAP-accredited laboratories are assessed against the management and technical requirements published in the International Standard, ISO/IEC 17025:2017.

AMENDMENT OF 15 CFR 285

A final rule amending 15 CFR Part 285 National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) was published on September 24, 2020.  Title 15, part 285 of the Code of Federal Regulations was first published on February 25, 1976 to establish the procedures and general requirements under which NVLAP operates as an unbiased third party to accredit both testing and calibration laboratories and has been revised several times.  This amendment incorporates revisions necessary to operate in accordance with ISO/IEC 17011:2017, Conformity assessment – Requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies and ISO/IEC 17025:2017, General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.  Further, these revisions include recognition of proficiency testing as an accreditation activity, addition and/or revision of terms, and update of the NVLAP mailing information.
