- Monthly contest, WikiProject Military history. The contest department of the Military history WikiProject aims to motivate increased quality in military history articles by offering a form of friendly competition for project members making improvements to them. The primary contest available is a simple rolling competition that awards points for improving articles. The contest runs from the first to last day of each month.
- Guild of Copy Editors' editing drive . The January 2023 backlog drive is a one-month-long effort of the Guild of Copy Editors to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy editing; those carrying the {{copy edit}} tag (also {{awkward}}, {{copy edit section}}, {{inappropriate person}}, and {{copy edit inline}} and their redirects) or listed on the GOCE Requests page.--> It begins 1 January 2023, 00:00 (UTC), and ends 31 January 2023, 00:00 (UTC).
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red 2022 Events: October – Alphabet Run: G & H women's names (new); Women+Climate (year-long initiative); #1day1woman (continuing).
- The 100,000 Challenge. The quest to bring about 100,000 article improvements and creations globally through a series of 50,000/10,000/1000 Challenges for different regions and countries. This is a loose challenge, a list will not be maintained here, but the components will function independently on each of the subpages. Will be updated every week or two.
- The 50,000 Destubbing Challenge is a long term challenge to destub 50,000 articles on English Wikipedia for every country and topic. It may take decades to accomplish, it may take ten years, it all depends on how many people actively contribute.

- WikiProject Skiing and Snowboarding is currently being revived from inactive status and is looking for interested participants to join. Many articles under the project scope are in need of improvement/updates, and assessment needs to be worked on. The project is also currently being restructured, so any input is welcome! - Recruiting new members for the Degrassi taskforce! For over 18 months I've been going around creating, expanding, and improving articles about the Degrassi teen drama franchise, which were mostly really poor and obviously last edited 10 years ago as well as improving coverage of the original series and I am interested in reviving this task force to encourage collaborative effort and help get Degrassi articles to featured status! - A group of editors has created a lichen task force under the banner of Wikipedia:WikiProject Fungi. Right now the group is busily tagging appropriate articles, converting existing articles to Wikipedia's automatic taxobox system, and creating an outline of lichens to direct future article development. - Last week, for ~15 minutes, all wikis were unreachable for logged-in users and non-cached pages. This was caused by a timing issue. [1]

The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 24 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 25 January. It will be on all wikis from 26 January (calendar).- If you have the Beta Feature for DiscussionTools enabled, the appearance of talk pages will add more information about discussion activity. [2][3]
- The 2023 edition of the Community Wishlist Survey (CWS), which invites contributors to make technical proposals and vote for tools and improvements, starts on Monday 23 January 2023 at 18:00 UTC.
