Quaker State Construction Co
2.0
I wanted to have a reputable company in the Pittsburgh area to add a composite second floor deck on to my home, so I called Quaker State to do the work in April 2017. Dave came out to speak with my husband and I about what materials we wanted to use and how big of a deck we wanted. We went with a basic rectangle shape 14x24 deck and we needed a separate foundation built for the hot tub we just purchased. He gave us all the information and the cost and we paid him the first deposit to start the work. I was told he had to get the permit and will be in touch with me once they received the permit and on the start date. It took about two weeks to get the permit (not Quaker's fault), but communication with the front office was horrible. I had to call in to see if the permit was in and ask about the start date on two separate occasions. The crew came out the first week in May. The crew leader was Dave. He introduced himself and we had a conversation about the design, the size of the deck, and making a foundation within the deck for the hot tub. He was never informed about the foundation for the hot tub, so it was a good thing we had a conversation before starting the project. Dave and his crew would come Monday-Friday from 9am-6pm and some Saturdays to get the deck done because the project fell two weeks behind due to rain, but Dave and his crew would still come out if it was light rain or they would sit in their trucks to wait the rain out. Dave had a crewmember show up drunk to the work site. That guy was fired and sent home. Dave was looking out for our safety so he doubled up on the wood used to make the foundation for our hot tub and extra screws. He had to change out some of the screws when the inspector came because a law was just passed that mandated that you had to use some other kind of screws. He always communicated with me what was going on with the project. When it came time to take the window out and replace it with French doors they made sure to cover the whole area with plastic, so dust would not blow throughout our home. The door was in place and the project was done! I was happy! It took five weeks (June). Then I noticed light coming through the top and side of the French doors. I called Quaker State and left a message about it - I never received a call back. Some time went past since my husband I was out of the country. When I came back there’s an invoice from QS for the obtaining of the permit (was told that all of that was included in the price of the deck - it was written on our contract) by this time it’s October 2017, so I call and I spoke with Debbie about the door and the invoice. She said that she was just clearing out old invoices and that is why we were just receiving it. I’m thinking to myself someone needs to get organized. I told her what was on the contract and she said that she would speak with Dave (salesman) and she would call me back about the door, as well. Never received a call from her, but a strange man knocks on my door one morning as I was preparing to leave saying that he was there to take a look at my door. I’m confused, so I told him that I’ll be right back, I had to get my child to school. I came back and I phone QS, speak with Debbie and ask her about why I never got a phone call back and who sent this man to my home. She said she knew nothing about it. By this time I’m not happy, so I let her know that I needed to speak with a manager. She said that she would have the president of the company call me. That was in October 2017 and it’s March 2018 and I’m still waiting for that call and my door is still not fixed. They have not sent another invoice for the permit or the door. I do not have a problem with paying for the labor of the door (I had to purchase my own door from Home Depot), but not until it’s set right. The communication with this “reputable” company is by far the worst I ever experienced. I believe when you have a customer that’s paying you $25k+ for a deck you should go above and beyond when it comes to accommodating that customer. Customer Service is EVERYTHING in my book. Even though, I have a beautiful deck I would not recommend this company based solely on their customer service (well their lack of it)

THESE FOLKS ARE TRUE OLD-FASHIONED CRAFTSMEN!! THE WINDOW AND DOORS THEY BUILT FOR US ARE A WORK OF ART AND RECEIVE MANY, MANY COMPLIMENTS FROM VISITORS TO OUR HOME. CHUCK WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL TO WORK WITH. IT SOMETIMES TAKES A LITTLE WHILE TO HAVE CALLS RETURNED -- IT SEEMS LIKE HE DOES MOST OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE WORK AS WELL AS SALES AND INSTALLATION COORDINATION, AND WORKS WITH THE GUYS IN THE SHOP. BUT HE DOES RETURN ALL CALLS. THE WINDOW AND DOORS WERE DELIVERED WITHIN A WEEK OF THE DATE ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED. WE ARE VERY PLEASED WITH THEIR WORK

Excellent from start to finish. Highly recommended. We got a quote from another door dealer--a very well known one in the North Hills and that dealer's price was much higher, won't mention any names but would suggest you get a quote from Pgh Window and Door before making any decisions. The owner came to our home twice to go over the door types and take measurements. The installers were great--had it installed within a couple of hours. Looks beautiful, installed correctly. We are very happy with our new Provia doors!

LEGACY REMODELING INC

we met the company at the Pittsburgh Home & Garden Show. Sales rep came to our house. Initially we were a little skeptical about going with them because they seemed rather aggressive about their sales pitch. But after further discussion with the rep, he was able to carefully explain a lot about his product. The time he spent to teach us about what we were purchasing convinced us that they were the right company for the installation. We visited their showroom and then perused a catalog. The representative remained with us during the entire selection process to answer any questions. Believe me, there were a lot of questions. The installers arrived 1-2 weeks before our projected install date, which was fantastic. Intallation of all windows and doors took 2 days. They were professional. They even helped us move a piece of furniture downstairs which we could only fit when the door frame was temporarily removed. Since our install, we encountered only 2 problems which they have addressed quickly and without question. The product was expensive, but the service and quality are worth the price. We do plan to use them again for future window replacements on our second floor

Renewal by Andersen of Pittsburgh
5.0
5.0 star rating 11/12/2016 My husband and I recently purchased and had new custom French doors and a storm door installed in our home by Renewal by Anderson. We absolutely love the doors and had a wonderful experience from purchase to installation. In fact, the only negative experience I had was not having Renewal by Anderson to our home sooner! Before we had Shawn Zbur, Design Consultant and Sales Representative, to our home, we met with and received quotes from Metropolitan Window and Door, Pella and Pittsburgh Window and Door. The individuals from the two latter companies were customer friendly; however, Pella's estimate was significantly higher than Renewal by Anderson and lacked some of the options that Renewal provided, while Pittsburgh Window and Door was not able to provide the custom product with our preferred finishes. The individual who met with us from Metropolitan Window and Door was very condescending and I believe based assumptions of a strong sale and our spending potential on our home which is nearly 100 years old. Poor salesmanship and lack of character all around with Metropolitan. So back to our amazing, five star experience with Renewal by Anderson. As they were the fourth company I had met with, I went into the appointment already skeptical that they could design the French doors with the custom width and finishes I wanted as it seemed no other company was able to accommodate our product needs. Shawn Zbur, Design Consultant and Sales Representative, was extremely friendly and personable from the moment he arrived until the follow-up after installation. I explained exactly what I was looking for (and not looking for) and, after taking the needed measurements, sat with me and my daughter at our kitchen table to review all of our options instantly using his notebook and other computer equipment that was easily set up for our appointment. He explained everything in detail and had samples of the materials to share for an up-close look at the feel and color of the door's construction, color and hardware options. Amazingly, Shawn was able to provide me with French doors with the same look and feel of wood trim that the previous doors had, and, to top it off, was able to provide it at a very reasonable price and approximately $2,000 less than the Pella product which did not even meet our needs in terms of finishes, etc.! Shawn even took the time to look and measure other windows in our home when I mentioned the draftiness of our family room. Considering the wonderful service and excellent finished product we now have with our new doors, we will most likely have Renewal replace these windows in the next year or so. Thank you Shawn for the wonderful customer service! It is so rare today to have this experience and I could not thank you any more for your help, time, and assistance in helping us get the doors we needed with the finishes that were so important to us! The five star service did not end there, however. The friendly customer service team at Renewal by Anderson was able to schedule our installation in five weeks from purchase which was extremely impressive as I had been given quotes of up to 13 weeks from other companies. Renewal then sent a separate individual to our home to confirm the measurements as a means to avoid any mistake in the manufacturing process. The customer service team then sent out notices by phone, email and text regarding what to expect and reminders for installation day. The installation team was so incredible. Mark and Jim arrived at the quoted time, were exceptionally friendly, courteous and efficient. My four year old daughter was very interested in watching them throughout their preparation, removal of the old doors and installation of the new doors and they could not have been any kinder or more patient with her. They were so attentive to contain all dust and debris in a carefully designed workspace and cleaned up entirely after installation. They were quiet, efficient and explained how the doors functioned in detail with me before they left. To top it off, they thanked me for the installation opportunity! For me, what differentiated Renewal by Anderson was the caliber of people whom they employed. In a world full of phony sales tactics, rushed or no customer service at all, it was so refreshing to see that Renewal obviously values not only the skill their team needs, which is obviously very high, but also values character, integrity and true authenticity of people and they have carefully selected them as representatives of their company. So for anyone in the market for new doors and windows, start and end with Renewal by Anderson. There is no need to look elsewhere as they will provide you with high quality products at competitive prices and you will be supported by the best people throughout the sales and installation process. My thanks to Shawn, Mark and Jim and everyone with Renewal! We look forward to working with you again! P.S. We LOVE our doors

SCOTT BROTHERS WINDOWS & DOORS
5.0
Went very smoothly. Did full replacement using Andersen Series 400 double-hung windows and Series 4 Frenchwood gliding door. I was surprised how little dust occurred and how little touchup needed around new casings. Two days for windows and one day for door. I noticed Scott truck in Mt Lebanon for years and expected quality work. Dave Scott was very straight-forward and prompt He promised a lot and delivered even more. I always liked wood windows but looked and received quotes/presentations on fiberglass, vinyl, and wood competitor

Mr Window Inc
2.0
We started with a quote in the summer of 2006. When we decided to do the work 4 months later, the price had changed drastically. The second sales person said that the first sales person had measured incorrectly. However, because the second quote was still relatively in line with other quotes, we still chose to go with Mr. Windows. It took 2 months to get the windows in, but their installer foreman fell off a ladder the day before they were supposed to start the project, so they had to delay another 6 weeks. This specifically stunk because that took us into the heart of winter for a late Jan. installation. Then, just before they were supposed to start, they had another scheduling problem and put it off for another couple of weeks. They finally got the windows installed in Feb. of 2007, but had a problem getting the French doors in. So, we continued waiting for that portion of the job to be complete for another several weeks. Then, they failed to put in the screen door as promised, so that took more time to complete. When it was all over, it was 6 months from the time we ordered the windows and put the down payment check in their hands. The trim carpetry was very sloppy for the window molding. In the end, the windows and doors are a good quality product, but the experience dealing with Mr. Windows was much less than satisfactory

Brookside Lumber Co

The prices are as good as the big box stores, and, for me, the experience was more relaxed when talking to the salesperson. We chose the doors to have installed over several visits. I like to think about things, look at samples, and shop around. The key to these type of endeavors, in my opinion, is the installer. Doug Martin was suggested as their best guy. He really is that good. He is meticulous and takes his time. The sliding glass doors we were replacing allowed some water damage on the deckplate for the house. The wood was rotting. Doug replaced the wood and did a beautiful installation. He had to make some adjustments on the entrance way to install the front door. It wasn't quite plumb. He did such a beautiful repair that you can't tell it wasn't right to begin with. The bottom line is, the material we bought was excellent quality, at a good price. We were happy with all aspects from beginning to end

Goetz Contracting
5.0
We hired Goetz contracting to install a french door where we originally had double hung windows in dining room, in order to gain access to the large deck they would be building off of the side and rear of our home. Michael Goetz gave me a quote over the phone (answered the first time I called him), and kept in touch with me as we pondered different ideas and options. We decided to sign with them and he kept me updated on when they would be starting the project. Mike was always available for me to reach with a question or concern...he takes his customer’s satisfaction very seriously. The crew (Steven Goetz, Dave, Steve, Cody, Skip, Dan and several others) worked so well together and were a pleasure to have around. They worked tirelessly in some really bad weather right before Christmas (freezing rain, snow etc). The finished deck and french doors and so beautiful and well done. We can’t wait to really put it to good use once the weather breaks! Thank you guys

He is absolutely outstanding. For my dryer, he found that a plug had come loose and he was able to plug it back in. Because it was so simple, he didn’t charge for the work. John is very thorough. He can do almost any type of work, including heating and air conditioning. He really goes out of his way and has done everything that I have wanted him to do. I couldn’t recommend him high enough

RICK KINROSS

Rick responds in a very reasonable time frame. He was flexible concerning scheduling. I purchased the door at Home Depot, and Rick picked it up and brought it to the house. He actually saved me money by closely examining the doors prior to hauling them to the house. He noticed a small dent within the door and brought it to Home Depot's attention. They subsequently refunded a portion of the purchase price. The job was well done and relatively quick

I was very excited to get brand new windows because the old ones were in such a bad state; however, since this was a big job that cost a lot of money, I was nervous at the same time. I can honestly tell you that all of the people I experienced during this process were extremely professional and I would highly recommend them. I purchased the Pella Architectural Series windows. I know that I could have gone with a vinyl or fiberglass window, but I had my heart set on Pella wood windows. These windows are beautifully crafted and have made such a difference to the look of my home, as well as the temperature. My house is so warm now and the look is truly elegant. Everyone that I encountered in this process was warm, organized, and thoughtful. Rob (the salesman) was punctual and sat with me for a few hours designing the plan. I never felt rushed or pressured. He was very patient with the revisions I kept making and even worked with me to save me money. Mike the project manager was great to work with as was Lanie the scheduler. They were always kind and respectful any time I had a question or concern. Finally, I can't say enough about the installers. Ben, Steve, and Bobby were a pleasure to work with. Their skill level is truly amazing. They worked together so well, and got the entire job done in 2 days. They kept the mess to a minimum and thoroughly cleaned up when the job was completed. It was freezing cold out the entire time and the snow was relentless; however, the weather conditions did not stop them. They worked fast and smart and I can't sing their praises enough. If you are looking for beautiful, quality windows as well as a professional team to guide you through the process, I feel you won't go wrong with this company
Their original quote was for $29000. We did not end up calling them to do the job because they got a bit salesy for us. When we said no, they kept miraculously dropping the price and then calling and calling and it got to the point when we got turned off by the whole thing. Miraculously the price got dropped drastically, we realized that they were ripping us off to begin with and we kept saying no, and they kept coming back. They must have called us at least four times after we kept saying no. We just decided not to go forward with the project because it was concerned with a lot of money and so we just put the brakes on and that way we really decided not to go forward with the project but then they got almost pushy and that really turned us off. Price wise we did not have anything to compare them with but we thought they were really high. They got a little shady for us and sales pushy

What do customers in Pittsburgh say about French Door Installation?
The service went fine. For how much I paid, I think it was overpriced. A piece of wood on one hinge was chipped off. I think they charged too much for what they did. The guys who installed it, came exactly when they were supposed to be here.
