I love revisiting sites and capturing how quickly modify landscapes. They can and build into systems and it shows... literally = look at all that glistening ! 🦫💦

Herons have been enjoying a slippery meal at Cropton Forest due to the abundance of amphibians as a result of the habitat created by the beavers.

What every Friday afternoon needs👉 and ! There is a reason why the beaver is called an 'ecosystem engineer'. These marvellous mammals modify their environment, creating new habitats. These ducks are taking full advantage of the beaver's talents!

This was a super fun paper to write with top shelf collaborators on what I think is an important topic. The icing on the cake was learning today that it was a 2019-2020 top cited paper.

Hard to capture scale from the ground or air. Interesting example of a greater impact but a lower dam number. Looking forward to working up the hydrological data to see if downstream flow regimes have changed since dams joined. Hypothesing increased attenuation, but we'll see.

Today's used to be 2 dams. A small dam on a pond outflow and a ~1m high dam in the stream running in parallel. Now joined into a single dam, 2m+ at its highest and over 50m long.

We are really excited to find out that the other for is a black morph individual. These beavers are much rarer, especially in Britain. This beaver is the father to the other beaver that will soon be with us.

This amazing beaver wetland is 10 years old today. The porous dams and other obstacles of water, reducing flooding downstream. Behind the leaky dams, over one million litres of water are held and slowly released. 📸 Alan Puttock
