Total factor productivity increased in 15 out of 21 major industries in 2021. The largest increase was in arts, entertainment, and recreation (15.1 percent). Using JOLTS total nonfarm state estimates from December 2005 to December 2021, we compare Texas to states with similarly sized economies—California, Florida, and New York—as well as to the United States during the two most recent recessions.
