HLC’s workshops offer intensive, hands-on learning opportunities for individual professionals and institutional teams, helping them develop short-term action plans that jump-start the improvement of processes and practices that influence student success.

Program Assessment Virtual Workshop | Register Now
February 14-15 & 21-22, 2023
This interactive workshop is an opportunity for individuals to further their understanding of practical and meaningful assessment of student learning in academic programs. Through lecture, discussion and structured activities, participants gain the practical knowledge and skills to lead the development and implementation of a program assessment plan in their academic discipline. This workshop is designed for individual department chairs, academic program coordinators and faculty in programs without discipline-specific accreditation to inform program assessment practices.
Effective Administrators
Next offering: March 25, 2023, held at the 2023 HLC Annual Conference
This workshop offers strategies for improving efficiency in key higher education administrator competencies including institutional effectiveness, planning, and resource management. Designed for new and rising administrators taking on formal and informal leadership roles to support their unit and institution, the workshop offers a blend of presentation, application, and small group activities.
Supporting Student Success

In this hands-on workshop, individual administrators, faculty, and staff members examine common factors that affect student success. Facilitators will lead a series of activities to help attendees identify their institution’s current realities and discover areas of opportunity for improving student success within their sphere of influence.

An Assurance Argument Virtual Workshop
Next Offering: Spring 2023
As part of the HLC Assurance Review, an institution prepares an Assurance Filing that demonstrates it is in compliance with HLC requirements. To help institutions craft the Assurance Argument, institutions with an Assurance Review scheduled from June 2023 – December 2023 as part of a Year 4 or Year 10 evaluation are invited to participate in this interactive half-day workshop. Teams will be invited to submit limited excerpts of their draft Assurance Argument ahead of the workshop. Eligible ALOs have recieved an invitation to send a team.
Advancing Strategy
(Virtual Seminar Series)
A collaborative strategic planning process can create systematic and continuous quality improvement. This team workshop brings together cross-functional groups of administrators to learn process and tools for effective strategic planning in higher education. Teams will leave with a project charter to develop a strategic plan that will improve their institution’s performance.
Optimizing Cocurricular Assessment
(Virtual Seminar Series)
This seminar will provide participants with strategies for aligning and utilizing co-curricular assessment to build inherent value across the institution. The "how-to" focus will promote greater understanding of similarities and differences between curricular and co-curricular assessment The seminar is intended for institutional representatives with fundamental assessment knowledge seeking to establish, integrate, and/or revitalize co-curricular assessment at their institution. The interactive format will provide perspectives, resources, and engagement opportunities to support effective co-curricular assessment and resulting application.
Fundamentals of Assessment
Next offering: Spring 2023
This program is intended for faculty, staff and leadership who are new to assessment of academic programs and/or assessment of co-curricular programs in higher education and would like to benefit from an understanding of the fundamentals of the assessment process. Delivered in a "hyperflex" modality, this engaging synchronous/asynchronous multi-session seminar/workshop series will center on major elements of a successful assessment process that supports a "culture of learning". The series and respective overarching objectives along with specific learning outcomes revolve around three main themes: Fundamentals of Assessment, Assessing in Context, and Sustaining a Culture of Learning.
