THE HUTCH THAT I BOUGHT WAS FROM AN ANTIQUE STORE AND THERE WAS A COUPLE OF DRAWERS THAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED AND THE WOOD NEEDED TO BE REFINISHED WITH A DIFFERENT PAINT. THE PRICE WAS OK.

He's also done electrical for me for my old home in Marin, and he's also previously done some plumbing work for me. He also repaired my gutters and installed a new sliding glass door for me. Sometimes he may not be available super early in the morning, but other than that he's really honest. If you tell him in advance, however, he can do it

PIC INDUSTRY INC

Our 25 year old wrought iron patio furniture was very rusty with chipped, peeling paint. From start to finish I could not be more pleased with the service which I received from Pic Industry to make our patio furniture like new again. They were extremely prompt and efficient in handling every part of the job. We talked over the phone to get an estimate for the repairs. Then a written estimate was mailed to me for my approval. An appointment was made for the furniture to be picked up the following week. The men who picked up the furniture handled it very carefully covering all the pieces with blankets when they were loaded into the truck. The contact person at the office (Judy) was very careful in making sure that I was satisfied with the choice of color for the furniture. She sent out color swatches for me to look at before we finalized the order. In addition to painting the furniture, the company replaced the worn out tires on the chaise lounges. I received my beautifully restored patio furniture back in three weeks. The delivery men were careful in taking it out of their truck and setting it up in the backyard according to my direction. I could not be more pleased with the service I received from Pic Industry

Everything went very well. They were very easy to work with and professional. Their prices were very reasonable as well. They completed work per the original schedule. They were also very flexible for our various tasks. We also got an estimate for a patio.

JOHN GIBBS WORKSHOP
5.0
John didn't do anything unnecessary. He just removed all of the ancient paint, left the original metal and wood with a coat of varnish. I asked him to install safety hinges. It is GORGEOUS. If you want an antique piece restored, he's a good person to go to. He's not fast, so you'll want to allow time for completion

It was terrific, as usual. Where can you find someone to come to your home and repair damage to your kitchen cabinets or furniture! They are wonderful. I had a cedar chest refinished by them last year. It was beautiful.

COLOR TOUCH PAINTING: Fine Painting Contractors

Todd showed up a bit late for our first meeting. That's the only negative thing I can say. Pleasant to work with, communicated well, he and one employee finished the job faster than estimated and on budget. Kept area immaculately clean. The cabinets look spectacular, and you'd never know they weren't always white. When it came time to pay, I'd long forgotten the Angie's List coupon, Todd remembered and applied the discount

Richard D. Ford / Ultra Fine Finish
5.0
Richard hand finished the inside and outside of every cabinet door. He added a special color custom strip to each surface. I was amazed that none of the 25 year damage on the surface of each cabinet was visible! The beautiful walnut finish as well as the custom hand painted trim ensures that my kitchen is one of a kind and that my resale value has increased. Richard was punctual, affordable, an expert in his craft, and... he offered his advice on some color choices for my new tile and counter tops. I can't believe I was lucky enough to find him and have him customize my home

I called them after seeing their website and they immediately got in touch with me and asked to see some pictures of my table and chair that I wanted to repair and then paint. The sent back an estimate and then we proceeded to do business. They came to pick up the table and chair and then told me exactly what it would cost and HOW they would repair the items. They were honorable and efficient and I wish I had more items for them to refinish. They then called me when the items were ready and delivered as promised to the exact time they said they would be delivering. They are great!!

Proper Wood Finishing
3.0
Michael is pleasant to work with and does reasonably good work, but he tends to promise more than he delivers, and always has an excuse when things don't go well. For example, when his 24-step schedule for refinishing claims that he will apply four coats of material, it actually means one coat. He counts the fact that he moves his spray gun back and forth several times as separate "coats". He did not apply any finishes to the bottom of the shelves in the lower cabinets. He said that was not normally done. He recommended a certain brand of hinges, but when he had trouble with them, he claimed he had never received a bad batch from that manufacturer before. When the rubber bumper pads kept falling off the cabinet doors, he claimed that he had never had that happen before. We paid extra to have him paint the wall which formed the back of our cabinets. He slopped the paint on the newly refinished shelves in several places, and it took many calls to get him to return to remove it

SPRAYMATE
5.0
We were having an awful time getting our kitchen contractor to fix our cabinets per our contract. After searching at a Home and Garden show and on Angie's list for someone else to do the work, I found Spraymate through a referral from a cabinet refacing company. Within a week, Paul gave us a quote for the repair work. While he was here, he even fixed a drawer handle we'd been trying to get our contractor to fix for 4 months! Once hired, he took 2 cabinet doors that were peeling from water damage; stripped them and repainted them. They match our other cabinets perfectly! He and his worker hand painted the chips in the cabinet doors on site. They laid protective tarps around our kitchen and pasted painters tape around sensitive areas. They were professional and thorough. Since they were the only outfit we found to do the work, I don't know if the price was competitive or not

The went well project went well. Shelby met our budget and our schedule while providing a custom finish. He said the table has one of the hardest finishes and should hold up for well over the original finish that was 30 years old.

RENAISSANCE FURNITURE RESTORATION
5.0
We found Boris using yelp.com. He has several good reviews there. I emailed Boris when my husband and I were in the process of purchasing a new home. We wanted to rejuvinate our broken-down and stained chairs before we moved into our new home. I attached photographs of the chairs to the email. Boris replied to my email within a couple of hours. Boris replied to everyone of my emails within a couple of hours. He could not offer an estimate from the photographs, and said he would need to see them in person. We went to his shop before Boris had seen the chairs to pick a fabric. Hint: I would suggest you do not do this unless Boris is familiar with your type of furniture. My husband is a contemporary artist that creates bright, complex paintings from detailed brushstrokes. We are picky about fabric, and we don't like the typical fabrics people pick for furniture. We thought we wanted a faux-leather textile for its longevity, but the selection of fabrics at Boris' store was a disappointment. He has a lot of them, and they probably appeal to the majority of his customers, but it was hard to find something to suit our tastes. All the faux leather textiles were solid colors, and not in a wide palette. We explored using two different colors on a chair to make them more interesting, but when we got home the idea didn't stick. We started shopping for fabrics online. Turns out, there isn't much more to chose from online either in the area of faux leather. We ordered a few swatches from online stores, and those took a few weeks to arrive. Boris was critical of our choices based on how they would work with the chairs. Many of our choices were very stiff, and would make the complex seems look terrible. This is why I recommend you do not try to pick a fabric until Boris' has seen your furniture. After our online swatch selections were rejected, we went back to Boris' store. We opened our minds back up to chosing a woven fabric instead. His selection of patterned fabric was also largely conventional and disappointing. Boris advised us to have more than one choice in mind, because some of his fabric books ware quite old and he wasn't confident our first choice would be available. It was hard to come up with even two we liked, but we did and they were both still available. Once Boris had the fabric and chairs in hand, he completed the complex work very quickly. We had the chairs back in 10 days. The hardest part of my dealings with Boris were around scheduling. I felt like Boris provided information at the last minute; not necessarily when I would liked to have it. I've never had furniture reupholstered, and an overview of the process at the beginning would have been helpful for me to plan. For example, he wanted to charge us for the pick-up and delivery of the chairs. Certainly this is reasonable, but I didn't know there would be a separate charge until he was at our house. Turns out he wasn't there to pick-up the chairs anyway, which I didn't know until he was about to leave without them. Then we had to pay Boris for the fabric before it was ordered. Certainly this is reasonable, but I didn't have this information until we had picked the fabric. I handed him a credit card, but he doesn't take credit cards which I didn't know until I tried to pay him with one. In the end these aggravations were trivial compared with the incredible results and value we received. I would return to Boris again and again with more pieces in the future and I recommend his skills highly. But I'll probably ask my husband to deal with him

All Bay Restoration Company Inc

This was terrible experience from start to finish. Not that the project is even finished yet... The job started smoothly enough. Shane Burdick removed our doors on November 30th, 2012 and took them back to his shop for stripping. Not long after, he explained that they were short on labor, and with the holidays, he wouldn't be able to return them and begin the sanding of cabinet frames until after Christmas. Even though we have a 1 year old child attacking our cabinet contents (no doors to hide goodies), we relented. What else could we do, he had our doors!!! On approximately January 3rd, we had not been contacted, so we called to schedule the frame sanding and cabinet door installation. The next 14 days are a blur of scheduling, rescheduling, cancelled and missed appointments- all on account of Shane Burdick of All Bay Restoration. Ultimately, he showed up on approximately 01-17-2013, sanded our cabinets, then left our kitchen a labyrinth of plastic drop cloths splattered with dust and paint stripping compound for days. When asked when he was to reinstall our long lost cabinet doors, he explained, that he hadn't started them yet........he took them six weeks prior!!! Another 10 days of scheduling, late cancellations and missed work dates ensued. I heard every excuse in the book. Shane either has the worst luck, or he lied at least a few times. Finally on January 27th of 2013, after much arm twisting, he turned up-- 2 h late-- with my doors. Not long after, he tried to convince me that a late installation was MY preference. Sorry Shane, you're no Jedi Knight and I'm not weak minded. 9 h later, at least 2 of which was spent going to and from Home Depot, a sloppy unfinished job was the result. I politely asked that a few things be touched up. He reluctantly fixed them. At one point I heard him mock me under his breath. Not long after, with a long list of untainted, uneven wood and touch ups to go, he explained that the stain would need 2 weeks to cure before he could finish the job. Fine Shane. You're the expert. Whatever it takes. A week later, I check my credit card to find out that All Bay Restoration had charged the 30% due upon delivery of the cabinet doors, and the 30% due upon job completion. Moreover, this charged was placed on January 4th........more than 3 weeks before the doors were even delivered. I e-mailed Shane (nobody picks up the phone at All Bay), and he insisted that the job WAS complete, making no mention of the credit card fraud......Long story short, I'm disputing the final 30% and All Bay is challenging my dispute. IN SUMMARY--- STAY AWAY FROM ALL BAY. (P.S. I understand they are changing their name to "Fresh Start"... fresh start, for who?
