The fence around my house was deteriorating from age, weather, and huge rose hedges. My backyard neighbor is the one who suggested Home Front Fence, when his roses were collaping our joint fence. It took only two days for Home Front Fence to remove the old fence and put the new one up. It looked so good, that when my sideyard neighbor and I were ready to replace our joint fence, it made sense to use the same company. I also had a front gate that was getting impossible to open because it was heavy, dragged on the ground, and boards were pulling loose. Again, it took a day to remove the old fence, and install the posts in concrete. I was impressed at how careful they were to dig the post holes and line up the posts for height and straightness. The second day, they put up the rails and boards, and installed the matching gate. The fence looks fantastic, and the gate swings open and closed easily. The hardware is of the kind that allows me to lock it from the inside for security. Home Front Fence was quick, reliable, and the workers were friendly, and thorough about cleanup. No loose nails in the driveway afterwards! I would definitely use them again for other fence work

Lyle's Tile & Hard Surface Cleaning
Only a so-so experience with this company. I had three companies bid for the removal of old tile and carpet. I chose Lyle Pettis as his company seemed most knowledgeable in the area of concrete floors. While other contractors were a bit hesitant to offer a binding bid without checking what was under the carpets that needed to be pulled up, Lyle bid on the job without checking. Once he found there were cracks due to settling of the house, and that the tile in the kitchen was more difficult to pull up than anticipated, he began making additional demands. What concerns me most about this contractor is the charges in addition to his proposal that he kept advancing. First, he hit me up for an additional $120 in order to dispose of the carpet and tile he was hired to pull up. I agreed once I negotiated that he should haul some additional materials away. Second, when he learned there was more material than anticipated in the kitchen, he requested an additional $50 to purchase cleaning supplies he didn't know would be necessary. This should have been included in the original quote. I refused the charge. Finally, he 'repaired' the cracks in the bedrooms by filling them in with a clay material that was a different color than the floors themselves. He blamed this on me and requested another $125 in order to fix this issue. It was explained quite clearly that he was responsible for covering up the cracks and his work did not achieve this goal. On the positive side, Lyle does take great pride in his work. The floors do look great and he definitely improved them. His work tearing up the old tile was quick, thorough and efficient. Mostly, I was put off by his constant requests for additional money after his initial quote. Mixed experience, mostly positive

We purchased a house and discovered that it had a drainage problem. We went with Bay Area Drainage (BAD) to address the problem. The owner of BAD, Wayne Ortland, was a pleasure to work with. He listened carefully to what we wanted to eventually do with our house and yard and tailored his plan to our input. BAD stuck pretty closely to the estimated work schedule and we were impressed with how hard his crew worked. The work appears to be high quality, but we won't fully know the results for several months while the moisture under the house dries. We were very surprised to find that BAD had replaced some concrete that had to be removed to access the excavation area behind our house. We had mentioned that this would be desirable to us, but in the end we decided not to do it solely because of extra cost. BAD did the work at no extra charge. This was really beyond our expectations and greatly appreciated! During their excavation, BAD discovered a leak in a waste water line leaving the house. They held off on completion of the work until we could get a plumber to fix the problem. They did this and they even dug out the area around the leaking pipe to make it accessible. After the plumber fixed the leak they returned to fill in the area. Finally, BAD has been very responsive after completion of the work. When we noticed that some of the grading they did appeared to be settling to leave a gap giving access under the house, they returned promptly and regraded the area

Dan was very personable and made great suggestions for us. He gave us several types of walkways to choose from and made estimates of each one we asked him to. Dan was always on site to supervise his employees and do some of the work himself (even when recovering from pneumonia). Dan had to break up and remove the existing walkway and then wait for the tree removal job to be complete before laying the new walkway. He was flexible when working around the tree removal project. We relied on him to do the job in a way that would make the finished product more eye appealing, functional and of higher quality than the original. He met and surpassed our expectations for the finished product. It is the best quality and most attractive walkway I have seen in the neighborhood

I had to replace my driveway due to tree roots causing it to raise. The work had to be coordinated with the timing of the tree removal and forecasts of rain. Robert kept in constant contact with me to ensure that he and his team would be able to remove the existing concrete before the tree removal date. He also ensured that the timing would work with my schedule. Robert was very conscientious in getting the new driveway and walkway on the side of my house poured as quickly as possible. He and his team were very thorough and did it the "right way" with a rock base and rebar properly floated when the concrete was poured. His team took the time while the concrete was setting to go over it as many times as needed to ensure that it looked perfect. His team also cleaned up everything and came back a few days later to remove the wooden forms. I highly recommend Robert and his team and would not hesitate to hire them for any future concrete needs

I just purchased an older house (1936) and all the concrete is a mess. I found Villacon on Craigslist. They are licensed and bonded General Contractors. I left a message on Monday morning and Gabriel returned my call later that day. I asked him if he could drive by and check out the work I wanted done and give me an estimate. Later that evening he called with a price. I asked when he could start; he said “tomorrow...it will take 4 days". Well the work was finished on Friday @noon. It was quite a large job , approximately 885 sq ft – digging up and replacing the driveway which runs from the street to well in back of the house. I am very impressed with the professionalism and work ethic of this crew… (I live currently in SF and the new house is in Vallejo - Gabriel was in constant communication regarding work progress and any challenges that arose), they delivered on time and within the budget. Quality of work is outstanding. I will be rehiring them to continue with the other concrete projects. Their areas of expertise include, foundation work, pool decks, retaining walls, patios and handicap ramps, as well as specialized finishes

I obtained quotes from several licensed contractors with workers comp insurance and Ed came in with the best price. He also seemed very knowledgeable. It was a bit difficult to pin him down on a start date because he was working on another big job, but once he started the work it was done quickly and well. The new concrete matches the existing terrace concrete almost perfectly. The crew were polite, responsive, and did their best to protect the surrounding vegetation. There was no damage.
