"We had a loud buzzing sound in the garage every time the Heat Pump kicked on the air conditioning. I thought it was a problem with the circuit breakers in the service panel. However, after a quick inspection of the Panel, Kyle was quick to understand that the problem was really with the Heat Pump and I needed to call my other service for that. In that Kyle was enroute to another job, he gave us a free inspection. I will gladly ask for and recommend Kyle's services from Comprehensive Electrical Services in the future. -- Rick"

"Quick callback, very good price, came out the very next morning, and did great, professional work repairing the ceiling box and then mounting and installing my new lighting fixtures. Asked them to hang a 2nd chandelier I was going to do myself while they were here, and they gladly accommodated. Got the entire job done for the same price as other companies quoted for just the one fixture. Highly recommended!"

"An overdue review for spring work by Kyle and the team at MECO. We needed to replace an outdated electric panel and bring it up to code, reconfigure our laundry room power supplies, and fix some problematic outlets. This is a tight knit outfit that provides very competitive bids and works to ensure complete satisfaction before the job closes. As a small business owner Kyleâ s day extends far beyond the standard 9-5. Share up front what times and communication methods work best for you, but remember to be patient when heâ s out in the field. MECO got us through a challenging situation with our laundry room setup, and also helped us save money when they determined we could scale back an outside project after consulting with the city. Thank you Kyle for personalized, quality service."

"Lucas was on time, cheerfully put up with the chaotic environment in my house, and fixed all of the problems and addressed all of the issues that I had. For $165, Lucas fixed numerous little electrical problems we had (power outage to several outlets in our kitchen and our stove's hood, an improperly installed light fixture, and broken heaters), including braving into our spider-infested crawl space. He also investigated why one of our circuits trips it's breaker all the time and gave us an estimate for having the bad heaters replaced. All told, this took him about 3 hours. He was extremely pleasant, quick, and well worth the $165."

"I contacted Skyline Electrical Services through Home Advisor. I was surprised by Home Advisor, in the past Iâ  ve had problems with them (Home Advisor) calling me, which I didnâ  t request. This time I went right to Skyline Electrical. I stop with Nick (I believe it was Nick) on the phone and explained what we needed done. He got me a quote and I thought it was going to be far higher than that (I have talked to a couple of companies over the last few weeks.) I ended up calling Nick again when we decided to put new lights up, and the price on that was good to. Nick sounded like a man that knew his business and how to keep the prices in the ball park. Now to the good stuff. Today Skyline was scheduled to be at my house by 9:00am, and they were right on time, which was great. Ryan introduced himself; he was friendly and very polite and easy to talk to. We had had three things to get done, the first was a ceiling fan, the second was to change the ballast on our fluorescent light, the third was two new lights outside our garage door. We talked while he was removing the old fan and we shared some information about our military background. Ryan worked while we talked, and I just sensed a young man that knew what he wanted in life and was doing it. When Ryan completed the fan, he checked his work to ensure everything was correct and working correctly. It took him no time to get the replace the ballast, and low and behold the light worked. He finished that and did the outside lights in no time. I was impressed with Ryan, he is the type of worker every company dreams of. Nothing but AWESOME! Would I use Skyline Electrical Services again? Oh yes, reliable, on time and great prices."

"Erik and his time are extremely professional with the highest grade of qualifications. They might seem young but they know there stuff and far outcompete any electrician I've hired in 20 years in Seattle. Erik deserves to be rewarded your work. He will not BS you and will charge a fair, reasonable and highly competitive rate. Erik, Stefan and Taylor spent at least a week on a basement remodel, bedroom and bathroom wiring. I will hire them again for the next job. You should hire them too and help someone who deserves it, build their business."

"After an immediate response to my HA request, I was scheduled for an estimate. The owner came out to assess to scope of work and build the estimate, which I had the next day. Jeff was also very negotiable regarding changes on the original estimate. We hired them for the lengthy project. John and his team were here right on time and left on time everyday and they cleaned up after each days work. Our project involved a 350' foot trench, installation of a street light, powering our driveway gate and adding power to both fountains (the kept the damaged to the yard minimal), AND adding 2 additional lights our our garage....thats just the outside work. Inside they added new or changed existing lights, including adding 2 pendant lights to our stairwell and 6 can lights to our front room. Everything went much smoother than I thought it would. These guys know their stuff. We were stressed for a long time about how we would run power under the concrete driveway and sidewalk and these guys did it in under an hour! They were always polite and friendly, practiced covid19 guidelines and kept us aware of everything they were doing. They were easy to communicate with and managed change orders in a breeze. I trust them with any electrical work I need. I recommend hiring these guys because their pricing is very fair and the staff is superior to other contractors I've worked with. John has returned to our home twice since work was finished, to repair issues that occurred after they left, that didn't have to do with areas they had done work in. Thats what I call EXTREME customer service at the highest level....100%! You won't regret your decision. I would have given 10 stars if I could!"

"Job started as replacing breakers but upon Bryceâ s inspection of the panel he determined that it needed replaced. The house was wired for a generator and he recommended a panel that would work best for our application. After cleaning up poor work by a previous person and installing the new panel, everything has worked great. No more breaker hum or worries and electrical issues."

"I hired ESS to install some can lights in our living room and kitchen. Matt was very responsive and answered on the first or second ring each time I called. They just finished the project and I can't believe how beautiful the lights are in our home! He suggested an LED light but I didn't want a blue LED color so they brought a warmer light that emulated the sun. It was absolutely perfect and gorgeous! From the hallway it just looks like the sun is shining all throughout the house. They provided the highest quality fixtures and offered us a 1-year guarantee to come out and fix anything that stops working. They installed dimmer switches for free and they didn't do any damage to our drywall at all. We hope to do cans downstairs someday and will definitely be hiring these guys again. Definitely recommend for can lights!"

"I had a great experience with Wire Craft. They installed 2 recessed lights where no lights had been, replaced 1 hanging chandelier with 3 recessed lights and replaced 1 track lighting system. They arrived when promised, did a great job, left my home as clean as it was before they did the work and even cut some $ from the bid price because it took an hour less time than estimated. I will so use them again."

Search for an Electrician Near You
Find a helping hand from a local Seattle electrician by putting down your zip code in the search tool to get started. Write about the size and scope of the project, and look at the estimates and electrician skill level to focus your search for the best electricians in your area.
It's best to hire someone your neighbors had a positive experience with, so add reviews to your search criteria to get started on your search.
Pick a Pro and Get an Estimate
Quotes for electrical repairs won't all be the same across the board. Ask for a quote to get pricing. Prices differ based on the contractor's individual price and the scope of the repair.
Before the contractor visits your home, they should give you a written estimate. Prices shouldn't stray from this agreed upon contract.
Frequently asked questions
- An electrician’s cost per hour comes in between $50 and $100. It’ll vary depending on your location and the type or professional you hire. Areas with a higher cost of living can expect to pay on the higher end of that scale. Licensing level may also increase the price.
- Usually you’ll pay a higher rate for the first hour. This covers their travel and time expense. Emergency or after-hours rates are usually higher too – expect to pay an emergency fee of up to $300 plus a higher hourly rate.
Electricians do a fair amount of larger remodeling and new construction projects but also common residential projects including:
- Installing a light fixture or chandelier
- Installing a ceiling fan
- Adding an outlet
- Updating or replacing a circuit breaker
- Installing or updating an electrical panel
- Adding outdoor lighting and other electrical features
For cost information related to the above tasks, visit our Electrical Cost Guide.
- Do you have a license to perform electrical work in this state?
All states require an electrical license or work performed under a Master Electrician. You should also ask how many on the job hours of experience they have. - Do you have insurance?
Never use one who isn’t insured. You can ask to see proof of insurance. - Do you have prior work references?
You might skip this for small jobs like installing a light or outlet. For larger projects, always get references. - What are your rates?
Always ask up front. Getting a detailed quote up front is the best way to go. - Who is going to do the actual work?
Often, a Master Electrician will come out to diagnose and bid on projects, but they have their apprentice and journeyman electricians do the work. This isn’t a terrible thing, in fact it’s common practice. The Master’s license is on the line with any work he supervises. - Is your work warrantied or guaranteed?
Any reputable company or contractor warranties their work, usually for at least a year. - Are you usually on time?
Overbooking is a frequent problem with electrical work. Often, a service call goes long, and they end up showing up at your home late. This common complaint is easily remedied with an up-front and honest discussion. If they can’t be on time, make sure they’ll call.
A truly skilled, well-equipped professional with a truck full of parts that charges $100 an hour can be a much wiser choice than an inexperienced hack, working with inadequate tools and no parts, but charging much less. Often, more experienced professionals get the job done quickly with warrantied work.
2. Compare Travel ChargesRates reflect travel times. Travel charges can have a big impact on your costs and are in some ways easier to compare than hourly rates. Many electricians spend a third or more of their time navigating traffic on their way to a jobsite. Every contractor must find a way to pay for the expense of driving each day.
3. Bundle Repair Jobs TogetherWhen you feel it’s time to call a pro, review your list and then conduct a mini-inspection of your home. Look for faulty switches and dysfunctional or crowded outlets. When the electrician comes, you’ll save money and time by getting everything taken care of at once.
4. How to Prepare & What to Know Before the Electrician Arrives- Be as thorough and detailed in describing your needs to your contractor. The more they know, the quicker the job will go.
- Before they arrive, prepare a precise list of items you want serviced. Electricians have budgeted their time for a service call. They don’t have time for additional requests once they are on site.
- Make sure the electrical panel box is accessible. You’ll pay for the time it takes to access it.
- Clear away fragile items, knickknacks and furniture from areas where you expect the them to work.
- If you have questions about the project, ask them before they start. Most are happy to run you through the problem and the process of fixing it.
- Ask about potential issues after the work is complete. During a service call a professional will spot any potential hazards.
- You’ll lose power to parts of your home while they work. Be prepared to pause anything you’re doing during the service call.
- In most cases you’ll have the option to either pay at the time of service or have a bill sent to you. You’ll be able to pay with cash, credit and sometimes check.
- By switching from ordinary incandescent light fixtures or bulbs to fluorescent or LED ones, you can substantially reduce energy consumption in your home.
- Motion detector switches can help you save money on outdoor lighting while at the same time providing very cost-effective security to your home.
- Creative landscape lighting and indoor accent lighting can make your home more appealing to you, your guests and potential buyers in the future.
