In October, unemployment rates were higher in 24 states, lower in 1 state, and stable in 25 states and the District of Columbia. Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 7 states and was essentially unchanged in 43 states and the District.

Sept. jobless rates down over the year in 354 of 389 metro areas; payroll jobs up in 111

Jobless rates were lower in September than a year earlier in 354 of the 389 metropolitan areas, higher in 27, and unchanged in 8. Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 111 metropolitan areas and was essentially unchanged in 278.

Annual average unemployment rates decreased in 49 states and the District of Columbia in 2021, while the rate was little changed in 1 state. Employment-population ratios increased in 38 states and the District, decreased in 1 state, and were little changed in 11 states.
