In 2021, 16 major strikes and lockouts began in the year and idled 80,700 workers. Major work stoppages in the health care and social assistance industry idled 45,400 workers and the manufacturing industry idled 16,600 workers.

In 2021, there were 16 major work stoppages beginning during the year. There were 8 major work stoppages beginning in 2020, and 25 in 2019.
