Cat Kid Comic Club: Collaborations: A Graphic Novel (Cat Kid Comic Club #4): From the Creator of Dog Man Kindle & comiXology

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 4,918 ratings

The Cat Kid Comic Club learns to collaborate in this creative, funny, and insightful graphic novel by Dav Pilkey, the author and illustrator of Dog Man.

Excitement and imagination run wild as Naomi, Melvin, Poppy, Gilbert, Curly, and their siblings get back to making comics with originality and laughter. But wait -- have they cleaned their rooms yet?!

After their chores, the rambunctious group presents even more amazing mini-comics: a thrilling ride in "Chubbs McSpiderbutt," an action-packed romp in "Frogzilla," reflective haikus in "In the Autumn Pond," a candy-coated mystery in "Mallo Cop," and much, much more. By working together, the baby frogs discover that small things can have a huge impact.

In this innovative graphic novel series, award-winning author and illustrator Dav Pilkey employs a variety of techniques -- including origami, acrylic paints, colored pencils, photography, collage, gouache, watercolors, and more -- to capture the creative and joyful spirit of collaboration. The variety of art styles, paired with Pilkey's trademark storytelling and humor, inspires imagination and innovation for readers of all ages.

About the Author

When Dav Pilkey was a kid, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hallway every day. Luckily, Dav loved to draw and make up stories. He spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comic books -- the very first adventures of Dog Man and Captain Underpants. In the second grade, Dav's teacher ripped up his comics and told him he couldn't spend the rest of his life making silly books. Fortunately, Dav was not a very good listener.

When Dav Pilkey was a kid, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hallway every day. Luckily, Dav loved to draw and make up stories. He spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comic books - the very first adventures of Dog Man and Captain Underpants.

In college, Dav met a teacher who encouraged him to illustrate and write. He won a national competition in 1986 and the prize was the publication of his first book, World War Won. He made many other books before being awarded the 1998 California Young Reader Medal for Dog Breath, which was published in 1994, and in 1997 he won the Caldecott Honor for The Paperboy.

The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby, published in 2002, was the first complete graphic novel spin-off from the Captain Underpants series and appeared at #6 on the USA Today bestseller list for all books, both adult and children's, and was also a New York Times bestseller. It was followed by Super Diaper Baby 2: The Invasion of the Potty Snatchers, also a USA Today bestseller. The unconventional style of these graphic novels is intended to encourage uninhibited creativity in kids.

His stories are semi-autobiographical and explore universal themes that celebrate friendship, tolerance, and the triumph of the good-hearted.

Dav loves to kayak in the Pacific Northwest with his wife.

Another fantastic Dav Pilkey book!

Another fantastic Dav Pilkey book!
My seven year old son loves this series! It was always a struggle to get him to read at night until he started reading these books. The words are larger, with very colorful pages and a funny story line, which keeps him interested in reading for longer lengths of time. There are not too many words per page which makes him feel like he’s achieved a lot and boosts his reading confidence if he reads 40 to 50 pages a night. He no longer constantly checks the clock to see if his 20 minutes of reading time i done. After 20 minutes is up, he still wants to keep reading!

I recently purchased three copies of Cat Kid Comic Club: Collaborations: A Graphic Novel (Cat Kid Comic Club #4) for each of my kids, and I'm thrilled to say that they all loved it. The book is filled with engaging stories and colorful illustrations that capture the imagination of kids and adults alike.

One thing I really appreciate about this book is how it encourages collaboration and creativity. The stories are written and illustrated by a diverse group of talented artists, and they all bring something unique and special to the book. My kids were inspired by the creativity of the artists and started working on their own comics after reading the book.

The characters in Cat Kid Comic Club are relatable and funny, which makes the stories even more enjoyable. My kids couldn't get enough of the adventures of Li'l Petey, Flippy, and Molly, and they were laughing out loud throughout the book.

Overall, I would highly recommend Cat Kid Comic Club: Collaborations: A Graphic Novel (Cat Kid Comic Club #4) to anyone who has kids who love graphic novels and comics. It's a fun and engaging book that encourages creativity, collaboration, and imagination. My kids have already read it multiple times, and it has become a beloved addition to our bookshelf. Five stars!

My 6 year old is an avid reader, but I was struggling to find something a bit more "fun" for him to read. Dav Pilkey's books do the trick - they are simple enough that he can read them independently, but they do keep him reading. The illustrations are great, and I do like the casual mentions of neurodiversity - it has sparked a lot of conversations between my son and I about my experience with ADHD growing up.
