Mike, Owner of All American Construction - took my deposit after discussing scope of work and timeline and coming to an understanding of the project. 6-7 weeks went by with no responses at first, led by "my guys will be there friday" followed by further lack of communication IE NO call NO show, No responses via email, text, or phone call. Finally got a hold of him around week 8, to be told that the refund check would be sent out. It is not 6 weeks after that and i have not received a dime in compensation. Mike has not returned my calls, emails, or text yet again over the last several weeks. I have been calling his office line in cumming, it says that line is temporarily out of service. I have worked along side mike prior to this experience and seen the wonderful craftsmanship that his team is capable of. I have also referred clients to him in which he did a wonderful job for as well. How ever that is not my personal experience as Mike's company clearly is screwing me over in this occasion. I do not recommend All American Construction, and if you're considering using their services, be extremely cautious.

I should have read reviews! I was referred by a neighbor who knew the owner, bad mistake! I was told the job would be 4-5 days - it took 10 weeks! The owner was non-responsive over the whole course of the project. He made mistakes with the permit office and forgot to order supplies that caused a few of the delays. Even when I called the office and complained about my home being a MESS for weeks and the quality of work, the owner NEVER called to apologize or even offer a discount. We are still cleaning up from the mess the workers lef t- paint stains on our front door and side walk, they poured paint in our bushes and ruined a carpet in our guest room.

DO NOT select this contractor for any major remodel project you may have. I should have read the reviews more carefully before making my selection. Even one critical review should be a warning sign to anyone who is planning any project but since there a difference with smaller project I would say anyone that is doing a project over $5,000. Here is my story: I initially requested information from AAC for a major remodel ($350,000). This was to completely change the floorplan of our small ranch home. We were adding only a little square footage to the home, converting the attached garage into livable space and adding in a 3-car garage. After spending over 2 months on an estimate for this project, our financing fell through. This was no fault of AAC. They were patient with me through all my requests and questions. This was why I had selected them. I never felt pressured until the project fell through. However, the estimating process with AAC was excruciating for the major remodel project. This was not my first remodel, so I went through each estimate, line by line and found that the estimates provided from AAC were either incomplete or had major mistakes. I wanted to be sure that any contract signed would be accurate and that I was getting exactly what I wanted so I thought that if I took the time upfront that it would lessen the impact at the end. I know that they (AAC) spent a lot of time on this but so did I. I sourced products and reviewed timelines. This was no easy task, so I dismissed the delay and chalked it up to my being so detailed. I honestly felt bad about taking up so much of their time that when the financing fell throw that I agreed to have them complete a lesser remodel of the house instead. I received a quick estimate and since I did not want to go through all the issues I had the first time around with estimating, I asked for a time and materials estimate saying that I needed to stay within the estimate provided. After signing the time and materials contract, things just went from bad to worse. The stopped provided me anything regarding a timeline or estimate. I kept asking repeatedly for information and would get partial answers. I did not think that anyone would be so nonchalant over a project, but I was wrong! This company does not have any attention to detail. Even when you watch them closely, they just throw things together without any thought. They make many mistakes because of this and you are the one who must pay for them. Here are just a couple of the costly mistakes made by this company: • Framing to an old diagram/floorplan o Ended up having to not only pay for the reframing but I had to pay for them to pull up the hardwoods and now to replace those areas (over 1000 sq feet) • Framing through the roof instead of the inside of the house (which was to studs) o Multiple leaks that require a roofer to repair • Replacing of siding in eaves without a request or approval • Replacing the crawl space covering before the framing was complete I finally had enough. AAC did not execute this project in good faith and were in constant breach of the contract terms. They provided inadequate management of the project and their crew. It has been over 6 months since this project started and the house still does not have insulation or drywall. I totaled up the hours that were charging and they equaled up to at least 12 weeks with a 4-person crew to complete the rough in only! After speaking with multiple contractors, they told me that this would should not have taken over 6 weeks with that size of a crew. I have documented this entire process along with the details of the timeline for reference as I am sure that AAC will try to put the blame entirely on me, but I can see that I am not the only one who has had these types of issues with AAC. Just look at all the different home improvement sites and you will find at least one critical review for this company this year (and it is just April). The owner says that he wants to do the right thing, but he does not follow through. Never work with Michael. He will tell you what you want to hear and deliver on nothing. All I can say is do not hire this company.

Met with very nice, but fast talking representative, Michael Hulsey, who promised many things and then left us out to dry. First wrote a $9000+ contract to pull of drywall and subfloor so they could see what they were getting into. Then gave us a 2nd contract for $94000+ all in. Had me drive from Tallahassee Florida to Cumming GA to walk through the property and make material selections and go over the project scope and then lost everything and had me do it all over again 2 months later. Now the owner Mike Sircy steps in because Michael Hulsey has disappeared and apparently taken all his promises, notes, memory with him. At first the owner says he will honor the contract. We do a walk through, have a nice meeting where he apologizes and says he will make it right, asks us to catch up on the draw schedule, (so we give him more money), and starts back to work. We get a new materials list, a new schedule and a few days work and BAM! Now that he sees everything Michael Hulsey promised us, he is backtracking, saying its our fault he can't complete our home without more money. The owner says nothing that Michael Hulsey promised was actually included and now we will have to sign change orders to complete the house and give them more money. He is trying to say we changed the plan on the house, but we have all the drawings, text, emails etc., from/to Michael Hulsey to show trivial things were changed on our end, like we wanted a wall moved over 6"before it had been built, which would not effect the cost. So basically they are now holding our house hostage until we pay them more money, leaving our house open to the elements to rot away all the work we already paid to have done. Never ever do any construction work with Michael Hulsey or this company. We have hired an attorney and are going to have to go to court because of the incompetence.

AVOID like the plague, I really have nothing good at all to say about this contractor. a 4 week project took 17 weeks. After not meeting their original deadline they started to set new deadlines, guaranteeing it would be done by a certain date, atleast 3 times this happened, and they failed to finish the job on time again and again. The worst part was just their inability to give us any sort of finish date which is something that is kind of important when you are trying to open a business. The management was rude, they were know it all's and lacked logical reasoning skills so it made it impossible to reach any type of agreement. They would blame me for things that were their fault. Because there was not a clear chain of communication but rather 3+ people that I spoke to throughout the project it would take multiple attempts to try to communicate anything and half of the time they screwed that up because one person would tell someone else the wrong thing.. Just aggravating. I started to feel like I was the general contractor scheduling and communicating with the sub-contractors. The work itself was average, luckily some of the more involved tasks were done by sub-contractors who actually knew what they were doing, but anything that didn't require a license and even some things that did was done by entry-level, inexperienced in house workers. They may have been good at certain things, but when the same person who is installing your drywall is also installing the sink, and they are probably in their mid 20s with little education, it is unlikely they are trained to do many different trades. This resulted in many do overs, which is part of the reason the project took so long. Moral of the story, don't even let these guys quote you on a larger project. For a small 1-2 day repair, just know that you are not going to be sent a seasoned expert, but an hourly day laborer type, so unless its a fairly simple job, I would go with someone else.

The other side of the story is that the Owner of the salon was too involved with the day to day operations of their project. There is a sequence of tasks for any construction project and when that sequence is broken to accommodate an Owner preference, problems are going to occur. Owner input is welcome, but when an Owner tries to dictate the sequence of tasks in order to see progress, the planning for those tasks, which is done days ahead of time, cannot be followed through properly. Unfortunately this Owner had a noise ordinance agreement with their landlord that only allowed us to work on certain days and certain hours - and those days and hours varied. On additional occasions we were asked to do "quiet work". On multiple occasions the landlord contacted us and instructed us to stop work so another tenant could have quiet time. Impossible to maintain a schedule under those conditions. I requested a schedule to work around but none was provided. I don't suppose they could figure it out any more than I could. Once a contract is signed and both parties have agreed to a scope of work and a price, that agreement needs to be honored. This Owner did not honor the contract and there were too many exception requests. In order to save money the Owner tried to do as much as they could. So even though I had a contract to do work, I was continually asked to provide credits for items that the Owner did; this was done without my approval. However, I was not compensated for any reworks required, additional materials supplied, labor provided, failed inspections for Owner work improperly done or down time. When you do a project that requires a contractor, PLEASE give them a single point of contact. There were countless instances when the Owner would instruct the crew on site to do a task one way and the Owner's significant other redirected when the Owner was absent. And then the Owner would change the work back again. Again, no compensation for the additional work. By the way, it's the Architect of Record that was supposed to approve those changes, not the Owner on the fly after the work day has started. In this case a lack of construction and operational knowledge, desire to cut every corner, and inconsistent Owner input held the project back. Our customers are usually intelligent, open-minded, and good business people. We went away from that standard to help this very young couple.06/08/2011
