AMAZING! Dennis came out, drafted a list of recos to which we agreed a staged approach. Then we aligned on a date which was at a time when we'd be away on vacation. Dennis said we'd be very happy with the nice deck we'd find upon our return and he was right. Simply astounding work! And fantastic disposition. A+++

Andrew came out and installed railings with less than 24 hours notice when we found out that my wife was being released from hospital and would need the railings to safely get in and out of the house. This kind of service is exceptional and much appreciated. Andrew has done work for us before and has been excellent every time

We had hand railings on our first and second floors in a 100-year-old house but not to our basement. Earlier this fall (2016), Nicely Dunn Handyman Service did a great job attaching hand railings to a poured concrete wall--very nice looking too! Later, we had them look at an irritating and binding storm door that closed only by pushing hard. They removed the door, trimmed the bottom and side to make it fit, and now it opens and closes without a problem. We will happily call them again

They have been very dilligent in working with me on my shutter project. They are not up yet, but I have seen the custom shutter and they look very good. The porch railing that they did was very well done. They have done very good work on my smaller projects.

Steve Funk the operations manager was very helpful with the process and kept things running smoothly. Jim Funk the onsite supervisor was easy to get in contact with and readily addressed any questions or ideas about how I wanted the project to look. Denny performed most of the carpentry and installation work and did a great job on workmanship. The trim work and porch railing looks just like the pictures I showed him and he was helpful with suggestions during the construction process to get the end result and look I was hoping for

Despite many communication mishaps (he lost several e-mails I sent), I found that the owner, Jim Funk, was very polite and professional. The skirting was not quite what I had specified, but it looks good. They workers finished in a timely manner, and though I was not around during the work, my neighbor commented on their professionalism. The workmanship is solid, and I am pleased with the result. Even though my project was very small, I felt I got quite good service

Worked with Jim Funk. Found him to be open and responsive to our request to keep costs down, by suggesting that we only replace the floor of the upper deck rather than the whole upper & lower deck structure. Workers were skilled and professional. Job was begun and completed in short order despite a turn for the worse in weather. Nice people. We would use this company again in future

Craftsmen Decks and Structures

It went BAD. John Stephens is the owner, and carpenter. He is a lousy carpenter. Finish cuts were angled, some decks were cut short of joists and had to get blocked from below (not kidding). Installed railing is an instant hazard; posts wobbly, rails not fastened to posts, only 'set in place'. Stairway railing is uneven height, uneven width (and none at the code-required minimum 36"). This person is NOT FIT to do Deck work, and especially not finish-carpentry level work you'd expect. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY as we've done. DO NOT CONTRACT WITH THIS PERSON

Very prompt. Mike explained everything he would have to do with the column bases ahead of time. I was willing to have all the bases redone, but he did not feel that was necessary. He thought he could repair the portions, that were bad and seal the remainder to get many years out of the bases. It looks great

POSSEHL'S SUPERIOR CONSTRUCTION LLC.
5.0
I collected five bids in February of 2014, and Possehl's turned out to not be the lowest bid. But I chose them for two main reasons. First and foremost, Michael Stanek is an oustanding communicator. He always answers his phone, responds to all email contacts, and really does a great job managing his crew. He called to let me know when they would be working, when the dumpster would get there, where they would put it, etc. The other reason I chose them were the glowing references of their past customers. I am renting out this house, and the spring rental market is really strong. I really asked Michael to do a difficult thing...to get our work done by 05/16/14, so we could get the best of the Spring rental market. Even with a ridiculous amount of cold, snowy and rainy days, Michael and his crew came through, on budget, on time, and there was no mess at all. Another outstanding bit of their service. This house has the really lousy masonite siding, and at all places near water, his crew would have been justified busting some of the pieces of masonite. Yet, all of the panels were preserved. I also had a new heater put in, and Possehl had to work with that contractor. As in all things on this deal, no problems. The house looks brilliant. I am buying another house this month, and Possehl's already gets the job. I am very, very satisfied with this company

Mudslingers Drywall & Remodeling LLC.
2.0
We hired Mudslingers for several projects, removal of popcorn ceiling, interior painting, and staircase remodel. While the removal of the popcorn ceilings and painting were completed to our satisfaction, we had a very disappointing experience with the staircase remodel. Mudslingers required a large down payment before starting the project (we were verbally informed this was in order to purchase the materials to be installed). The project started on time with the removal of the existing staircase walls and railings. After the walls and railings were removed, the contractor went to buy the materials for the new railings (i.e. posts, spindles, and handrails). Per our contract, the materials to be used were to be maple to match our hardwood floors. However, the materials in maple were not available when the contractor went to pick them up after removing the walls and previous railings. While at the supplier, the contractor phoned us and requested to replace the maple materials with oak. Put on the spot, we agreed on the condition that the oak could be matched to the hardwood floors. The alternative was to wait an undetermined amount of time for maple (and live with the demolished staircase until it became available). We were assured that the materials could be matched. After completion the contractor admitted that the grain of the oak does not match with the maple flooring and stair treads (a different contractor completed the stair treads). Mudslingers agreed to replace the oak with maple. After months of back-and-forth, the contractor brought samples for the replacement railings by and told us that the samples were maple. Upon further investigation we noticed the contractor had forgotten to remove the SKU label that indicated the wood was not maple, but in fact poplar. We notified Mudslingers that the wood was still not correct and since then they have stopped communicating with us. In short, we do not recommend Mudslingers for any carpentry work

The whole job was done in just a few days, they cleaned every evening and left everything as neat as a pin each night. They were right on schedule (even finished earlier than anticipated) and came in exactly on budget. Very professional, very accommodating, and a pleasant experience all around. I have had a lot done to my house over the years, and it's such a pleasure to have real professionals who are honest, reliable and dedicated to doing a really great job.Hire them!!! You will be glad you did
Above all, the main things we liked about Eric and his team were how great they were to work with. We were very indecisive customers, and he worked with us patiently and flexibly as we changed our minds over the course of several months before finally deciding on what we wanted. He gave us numerous quotes as we tried to get the cost down to what we could afford. He adjusted his schedule to meet our needs, even bailing us out at short notice when we realized we needed some major extra help with a demolition project that we'd originally intended to do ourselves. Eric was super responsive, easy to stay in contact with, very helpful, punctual, and did quality work. Our main objective was to replace the carpeting in our dining room and the tile in our kitchen with LVP (a hard floor that looks like wood). However, we had a banister in our dining room that had several problems. First, the balusters went directly into the carpet. The carpet was cut around each individual baluster, which would not be practical for a hard floor. We couldn't switch from carpet to a hard floor without dealing with this issue. Also, the banister had sustained some damage, with some wood broken off the handrail and two balusters missing. Finally, the balusters were too far apart to meet code and were a safety hazard for our children. As we began getting quotes on the banister, we were shocked at how expensive it would be to replace it entirely. Eric worked with us to choose new balusters that would go well with our existing handrail and newel posts. In that way, we were able to save a lot of money by using some of our existing wood. Eric and his team essentially removed our banister and then put it back in again with the new balusters in order to install wood landing tread underneath it in order to make it possible for us to have a hard floor. They also repaired our damaged handrail and tightened everything up (repairing some previous looseness). The "new" banister looks great--better even than we expected! It looks up-to-date and very nice. We also ran into the issue of needing help demolishing our tile floor. More layers than we expected had to be removed, and it became quickly clear that we wouldn't be able to do it ourselves. Eric's team took over with very short notice, did a great job, and charged a reasonable price. We would definitely recommend Eric. He was responsive, flexible, helpful, and punctual, and his team was great
We had a great experience working with Anchor Iron Co. They are a family company and it showed in every aspect of their work. Not only did the one of the owners come to assess the project, but also the son made contact with us to schedule the installation once the railing was ready and oversaw the entire installation process. They were courteous and effective. We were impressed with how quickly they were able to install the railing. There was no evidence that they had been there, other than a sign not to lean on the railing for one day while the cement continued to dry. Staff took care to ensure the flowers in the flower boxes along the stairs survived the installation and they continue to be a beautiful compliment to our new railing. The bid was slightly above the other three bids that we obtained by a couple of hundred dollars, but the impression we had of Anchor Iron Co. was much more professional than the others. They didn't try to insert any hidden costs and offered to remove the old railing for free. Their competition wanted an additional $200-300 to remove it. We were so satisfied, we are considering asking them back to design an iron gate for us. It was a pleasure doing business with them
Excellent communication, professional workers, showed up on time, cleaned up after install, responded to all after installation questions. Have recommended them to several people.
We had Tim make our railing for our staircase at our cabin. My husband wanted the wood and metal look. Everything went great. So we hired him again for our deck railing. We love both!
Nice crew, friendly, punctual, no muss, no fuss. By the time they finished up we were best of friends. I get loads of compliments on the fence and the railing and how well it sets off the house. I believe there is a picture of it on their website.
We needed boards replaced and railings re-built on our deck, and maintenance on our fence posts. Troy quickly figured out what needed to be done, gave me honest advice, & did a great job at a reasonable price. I highly recommend him.
Tom was quick to respond to my initial phone call and came to do an estimate the same week. He stained all of the wood in advance as well as custom-made wooden heat register covers. Tom brought someone to assist him. They were pleasant, very focused and excellent problem solvers. The job took them six hours and they worked without stopping. They also helped us carry up a very heavy piece of furniture and adjusted our pocket doors. They cleaned up when the job was complete. Clearly both took pride in their work
They took longer than we thought they would, but we were satisfied with the work they did. The people we dealt with were pretty nice and very professional.
Generations Hardwood flooring was 1 of 3 bids I got. They had a reasonable solution and were the least expensive bid. I scheduled with them and they explained that since my job was so small it would need to get booked on the tail end of some other job. No problem. We booked it. The repairman came at the scheduled time and was well prepared. He was professional and a very nice guy. We went over what he was going to do again and he got to work. The work was completed in a little over and hour. He cleaned up well after completing the job
They are very good. They keep track of everything you buy so they know what you have bought before and what you need. They have been very helpful and it’s been a good experience.
We had five deck builders bid on our project and it came down to Precision Decks and another contractor, Contractor X. We made the unfortunate decision of hiring Contractor X. While Contractor X was very confident they could provide us with a high quality product and exceptional service, it became pretty evident after two weeks that the shoddy workmanship, delays, and lack of attention to detail (including 2 potential code violations) had the project moving in an unfavorable direction. After terminating Contractor X, we called at Precision Decks to assess the situation and see if they could complete our project. The owner came out to our home the next day and provided an unbiased, honest assessment of the work that had been completed to date, and offered a roadmap to move forward. In roughly four days the crew at Precision Decks was able to not only fix the numerous problems Contractor X created, but complete our deck. The quality, craftsmanship, and expertise Precision Decks brought to the project was truly FIRST RATE. And while it may go overlooked by some, the company communicated with us regularly throughout our endeavor and made themselves available to us whenever we had questions. In closing, let me reiterate that the worst decision we made was not hiring Precision Decks from the outset. The BEST DECISION we made was hiring them to correct the mistakes made by the previous contractor and having them finish our deck. Thanks to Precision Decks, we have an outdoor living space we absolutely love and can be proud of

What do customers in Saint Paul say about Install Porch Railings?
Went real well. Ward came out a day or so after I called, explained a couple of options and gave me an estimate. He was back within a few days and did the work. He is very skilled and friendly, and we will call him again for those miscellaneous small tasks that are beyond our abilities.
