Key Messages:  1. There is a danger of life-threatening storm surge today along the  coasts of northeast Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas within the  Storm Surge Warning areas.  Residents in these areas should follow  any advice given by local officials.  2. Hurricane-force winds are expected along the coasts of South Carolina and southeastern North Carolina within the Hurricane  Warning area by this afternoon.  Hurricane conditions are possible  in North Carolina within the Hurricane Watch area by this afternoon.  Preparations should be rushed to completion.  3. Ongoing major to record river flooding will continue through next  week across portions of central Florida. Considerable flooding is  expected through today across portions of coastal and northeast  South Carolina. Locally considerable flooding is possible across  portions of North Carolina and southern Virginia through today.

Follow instructions from your local officials before leaving your home after #Ian. Downed power lines, hanging electrical wires, or debris can be hidden in flood waters. If you see a downed power line or other electrical hazard, report it to the police & the utility company.

Have you lost power? When in doubt, throw it out. Throw away perishable refrigerated food like meat, seafood, milk, and eggs if the power is out for more than 4 hours. Food will stay safe in refrigerator up to 4 hours if the door stays closed. Learn more: bit.ly/3tvY8T0
Trash can with perishable foods thrown away. Text says after a power outage, throw out refrigerated perishable foods after 4 hours. Check temperature of food in your freezer and in coolers. Throw out food above 40°F. You can safely refreeze or cook thawed frozen food that still contains ice crystals or is at 40°F or below.

If you are under a #tornado warning, take shelter immediately! Go to a safe room, basement, or storm cellar. If you are in a building with no basement, then get to a small interior room on the lowest level. Stay away from windows and doors. #Ian

Florida residents: If #Ian caused damage to your home or belongings, make sure to document it. 📸 Take photos before you begin clean up. 📝 Make a list of damaged or lost items & gather receipts. Doing this helps speed up the process with insurance & other assistance programs.
Storm damage? Before you begin clean up, take photos of your damaged home and belongings. You do not need to wait for an inspector to view damage before cleaning up. Make a list of damaged/lost items and gather any original receipts you have for those items. Call your insurance agent to submit a claim. Having this info on hand will help speed up the process with your insurance company and other programs.
