They did a great job and I would recommend them. They wore protective gear and had to come back out to troubleshoot the gas valve and now it's working perfectly. The owner of the company also called me to make sure everything was working properly. He gave me a good price.

We found Ashler on Angie's List, and also obtained two other estimates. Our first impression of Mike Fletcher sold us -- he told us he does not do inspections because he considers it a conflict of interest since his company does the repairs. So he referred us to Certified Chimney Inspectors (Shane Imburgia) who did the most thorough inspection of the 3 estimates we obtained. He sent the report and video and Mike provided an estimate. The team that came was incredibly thorough with everything they did - especially the protection of our home. Everything was covered in plastic and the living room was sealed off so no fine dust would get on anything or out of that room. They spent two days doing significant work to make our fireplace safe and like new for decades to come (with regular cleaning, of course). And they painted everything in the fireplace black with a special paint. It looked so beautiful we asked them to paint our outdoor fireplace too. The flames are magnificent against it! They did an immaculate clean-up and provided us with a temporary chimney cap until the new one arrived. I can't recommend them highly enough and would use them again for any masonry work.

Description of Work
Removed portion of back wall to make repairs; packed and filled voids with refractory grade material; cleaned chimney and smoke chamber and coated the entire smoke chamber with ChamberTech High heat coating; rebuilt a protion of the smoke shelf; repaired the hearth; repaired the chimney crown and replaced the damper and cap; painted the inside of two fireplaces with black, heat-resistant paint.

Michael came and reviewed my options with me and scheduled the work promptly. He checked in on his crew to make sure the work was being done properly, and inspected after the project was completed to his satisfaction. When I called him back to double check something, he found that a small area of the new lining needed to be redone, and he arranged for his crew to come back the next day to redo it. I would highly recommend him for a chimney repair and any other chimney work you may need.

Mike Fletcher and his crews were helpful, straightforward and professional. Our rooms were completely protected with heavy plastic sheeting before work began. The work was meticulous, efficiently executed and within the promised time schedule. The fireplaces look great and add a lovely ambience--and warmth--to the rooms. We are very happy with the final results and would welcome Mike back for any other projects.

STEVEN W.

Mike and his team at Ashler Fireplace and Chimney are exceptional! We purchased a direct vent gas fireplace to install in our mid century modern home. We purchased the unit but had trouble finding a contractor that could manage the detailed installation required -- additional supports in the attic, a steel frame and non combustable chase, then a custom modern looking hearth. We had a photo of what we wanted the finished install to look like.....and not much else. Mike and his team came in and managed the process, and us, like pros. Every detail was considered, they took great care to protect the house from debris and dust during construction and the final project looked exactly as we had hoped for. Mike's knowledge of the fireplace unit and construction considerations were above and beyond, we felt in great hands for the entire experience!

The Short Story: I have found that Ashler Fireplace and Chimney is a competent, honest company that does great work and follows through with their promises. I was selling my house, it had a bad chimney that needed to be fixed before we could close escrow, and I wound up wasting a lot of time and money chasing the wrong vendors before discovering Ashler. Ashler got the job done right within the timeframe they promised. Despite some challenges and setbacks that weren’t their fault, Ashler was courteous and gracious throughout the job. I really appreciated that. The Long Story: It was time to sell our house of 23 years, and a general home inspection revealed that it had cracks in the chimney and that a professional chimney inspection was recommended. I hired a chimney specialist recommended by my general home inspection company, and they determined that our chimney was of the infamous pre-cast type (historically problematic), was cracked beyond repair, and needed to be replaced. The inspection cost me $185, and I was quoted about $15K to replace the chimney. Ouch. I needed a second opinion. This opinion cost me $189, and claimed that the chimney only needed to be patched for $3-4K! This assessment seemed too good to be true, and I was now faced with having to pay more money for a third opinion… Ultimately, we paid for THREE different chimney inspections, and got chimney repair quotes from FOUR different companies before making our decision. A chimney repair company cannot give you a meaningful quote without an inspection, and an inspection costs money, so getting multiple quotes was very costly for us. But we were determined to do this right. Our first two inspection/quotes varied so wildly in price and repair scope, we weren’t sure what to do, and we needed yet another quote. Our gut told us that the company who quoted $3-4K was looking to make a quick buck. His inspection “report” was a one-sheet checklist that conveniently glossed over certain key details that other companies pointed out. This felt misleading at best, and further research of this company reinforced our concerns. Selecting a chimney repair company was a lot harder than I originally would have guessed. First of all, it was difficult to find competent companies capable of giving meaningful quotes. Many seemed to be merely glorified chimney sweeps that lack construction expertise and credentials. Second, the chimney inspections we received varied wildly in thoroughness, details, and assessment. Third, repair quotes also varied wildly in their specifics -- what we would be getting, what is covered, and what isn’t covered. My wife and I had a big fear of hidden costs, and knew that this wasn’t a simple matter of just going with the lowest quote. In the end, we wound up selecting Ashler Fireplace and Chimney to replace our chimney. We contacted Ashler largely because of their strong reviews on Angie’s List, and because they had a history of previous work evident on Angie’s List that clearly showed they have handled big jobs in the past. Our job most likely required major demolition and reconstruction, so companies that showed a history of only nickel and dime patch jobs were out of the question for us. Unlike other companies we contacted, Ashler does NOT do chimney inspections, and recommended a company called Certified Chimney Inspectors (CCI) for a thorough inspection. At first we were put off by this (“oh great, yet another company we have to hire, and more money to spend”) but we soon realized the wisdom of this approach. Independent inspection means no conflict of interest. Do you really want to know the true condition of your chimney? Why leave this assessment in the hands of someone who could be after easy money? After my experience, I’m convinced that a 3rd party inspection is the safest and best way to go for work of this nature. I may write a separate review for CCI (they are great), but in a nutshell: At $345, their inspection was not cheap. (If you are keeping track, to date I was out $719 total for three chimney inspections, with no repair work done yet!) But CCI was prompt, very thorough, and their report made the earlier two inspection reports I received look like jokes. The report I received from CCI is 12 pages long and contains tons of annotated color photos and details. Their report is so thorough that I was able to use it to get two sight-unseen quotes by simply emailing it to two different chimney repair companies that I found on Angie’s List, Ashler being one of them, without having to pay those companies visit/inspection fees. If I had to do this all over again, I would hire Certified Chimney Inspectors first to get the definitive chimney assessment, then shop their report around to find the best repair company. My chimney replacement went smoothly with Ashler. Ashler jumped through a bunch of hoops for us at the end that allowed us to close escrow sooner rather than later, which was above and beyond their call of duty. They even as a favor to me applied some touch up paint on few areas on our house exterior that was not their responsibility, which saved me a 150 mile round trip drive. And I learned at the end that Ashler could have charged me for some added out-of-scope expenses, but didn’t. This was because Ashler’s owner, Mike Fletcher, had already told me that we were squared away, and wasn’t going back on his word. That’s integrity. If you have a faulty chimney, I highly recommend that you do things right and hire a company like Ashler Fireplace and Chimney for repairs and construction, and Certified Chimney Inspectors for inspections.

Mike from Ashler Fireplace and Chimney came highly referred to us by our Landscaper. When I met Mike for our first appointment he was in time and was very friendly. I gave Mike a picture showing him exactly what I wanted the finished fireplace to look like and he assured me he could build it for me, however it would require engineering and permit in order to do the job correctly. We decided to go with Mike because he was highly knowledgeable and seemed trustworthy. His price was a little bit more than we were expecting but we wanted a quality job and were willing to pay a little extra. We talked to a few other contractors who didn?t seem as knowledgeable as Mike nor seemed to have a good plan of approach. We wanted the project done fast and Mike assured me that he could start within a few days. 3 days later Mik?s crew was at my home and started the work. His crew was courteous and took great care in protecting my concrete and landscape . I liked the fact that he communicated with me throughout the entire job and was very patient in answering my questions. Other than waiting on the stone that I selected to arrive, Mike?s crew were very efficient and clean. I can?t say enough about the fireplace,it is amazing! Mike and his crew are true craftsman and the fireplace is now the focal show piece of our entire backyard. I would highly recommend Ashler Fireplace and Chimney to anyone who is looking for a good fireplace company.

We had bought our house and knew of the existing issue. Before just taking on the job, Michael from Burntech suggested I test the chimney with a small fire to ensure it was truly defective. I appreciated his suggestion. I tested the fireplace and found that the chimney was defective. Michael promptly has his crew make modifications to the chimney and fixed the problem. Everyone at Burntech was great to work with.

They were great! We had a very positive experience throughout the duration of the 2 month job. After taking numerous bids, we decided to go with Burntech and remain happy with our decision. Mike is very knowledgeable, friendly, honest and professional, he is patient and clearly explains every step of the construction. His crew arrived on time every day including Saturdays and kept all areas clean throughout the job. His prices are very reasonable and the quality of their work is excellent. We are very happy with the results in every way and highly recommend Burntech for any and all of your chimney or fireplace needs.

Burntech was prompt and on time for an inspection of a home my wife and I were interested in purchasing. Burntech found that in one fireplace the inner shaft was seperated from the outer layer. Burntech showed us this on their camera and informed us of the potential for fire hazard and the possible costs of labor to fix this issue. Burntech provided us with a very good fireplace inspection.
