Rader's Carpet Service

MY GARAGE, DINING ROOM & KITCHEN WERE LEFT A MESS WITH SAWDUST EVERYWHERE. THERE WAS OBVIOUSLY NO ATTEMPT TO CLEAN IT UP. I FOUND AT LEAST 10 NAILS IN MY CARPETING THAT WERE APPARENTLY USED TO INSTALL TRIM. THE WRONG TRIM PIECES WERE INSTALLED INITIALLY, AND IN SOME PLACES WERE NOT INSTALLED AT ALL. I HAD TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL MATERIALS, AFTER BEING TOLD BY THE OWNER THAT THE MISTAKE WAS MY FAULT. (HE TOLD ME EXACTLY WHAT TO ORDER). OVERALL, I WAS NOT PLEASED. MAYBE HIS CARPET SERVICE IS BETTER. I WOULD NOT HIRE HIM AGAIN. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE. I AM GLAD THE JOB IS FINALLY COMPLETED.

Dave was so helpful in answering all of our questions, and Janice was very polite and considerate when she was taking care of setting everything up for us. This was all set up at the Castleton location, even though the condo is in Greenwood. They took care of everything in a timely manner, and even got the quote to us on Memorial Day. We are in a pretty big hurry, and they were very prompt and their communication was great. We are having them out to install everything as soon as the materials are available. I will update this post when the work is complete. But, so far, so good!!

This is a 3 part story. First to be done was the flooring. Carpet was ripped up and we were told that slab holes and dips needed to be filled in. Next day crew came back and filled in depressions. Day after they came back to lay flooring and discovered that when flooring was delivered 22 boxes were missing. Store could not locate missing boxes and did not initially have a Plan B to replace - since timing was getting critical due to furniture move in date. After calls to other stores and manufacturer a rush order of matching flooring was delivered - day before scheduled furniture moving date - and too late to install that day. Call to Two Guys and a Truck movers delayed furniture one day. Install crew from Home Depot came out and worked their rear ends off to get flooring installed. Extremely professional and worked past normal quitting time to get it done correctly. Job completed. Great install crew. Home Depot made it right. Next was referigerator and microwave. Old were removed and new installed without problems and very professionally. Countertops were next. Again, crew showed up on time and completed work very professionally and ahead of time estimate. Home Depot was not able to discover what happened to missing flooring. But they made it right.

FLOORS TO GO
1.0
When I ordered the sales person, Paul Howcott called the distribution center to make sure the flooring was there, and he confirmed that they had the amount of flooring that we needed that day. He told me I would have the floor by the middle of the week, that it would take about 3-4 days to get in. I didn't get the order in until about two weeks later, and I didn't even get all of the order, it was just a partial order. Then, two weeks after that I got another part of another partial order, still not getting the complete order. I had to call and call several times, they told me they would give me the rest of the order the following week, and I still didn't get it. Again, two weeks later I got another partial order. Now, its January 14, and the order is still not complete! I have had to visit the store a couple of times to try to talk with someone above the sales person. The sales person refused to give me the owners name and he said there is no otehr person that I could speak to except for him. He said I would have to write a letter to the company to speak with the owner and they would give it to the owner, which we know will not happen. There was also a piece of flooring that we didn't need that we were talked into. I asked if they could then take back that part, he said no all sales are final, but he then said he would refund this back. When I brought the piece back he said he couldn't refund the money but I could get in store credit which I did not want! I don't want to order anything else from them! They refused to make any restitution for the undeliverable pieces that were supposed to be delivered to me.

Horrible, we had to have the flooring replaced 3 times due to it not being done properly leveled before installed. The third time was good until few months ago started having squeaking and boards moving in 3 places we had Keller Interiors which is one of their subcontractors come out to replace 3 areas which we paid $300 for and the boards are not laying down flat they have one side raised up and can trip you. We no longer have but 1 spare piece left and they have now discontinued our flooring. The one edge of the floor is loose and looks like not glue to hold it down and doesn't look attached to the other side and will probably evently break. Absolute total nightmare!

EVERYTHING ABOUT THE COMPANY WAS EXCELLENT FROM THE ESTIMATOR TO THE INSTALLERS. IT WAS A BIG JOB AND THEY FINISHED ON TIME SO I COULD MOVE IN TO MY NEW HOUSE AND THERE WERE NO SURPRISES. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM FOR ALL YOUR FLOORING NEEDS. I WILL CALL THEM AGAIN WHEN IT'S TIME FOR MY BATHROOM FLOORING.

The end product came out nice, but it was a long hard road to get here. Flooring was installed in June and looked great. Took them two days. Within 3 weeks we started to notice "squeaks" is many of the joints in the entry and kitchen. We called the store. They "put a work order in with the installer". Two weeks later we received a call and scheduled a day for the installer to come out a week later. I took the day off work by 2:00pm I still have not seen anyone or been called. Called the store, they had the installer call me. He was in Muncie and didn't show until around 5:00pm. He looked at the floor and said, "it looks like it was installed too tight, and when it expanded, the joints were damaged. He asked if I had any materials, I told him I did not, so he said he would tell the store what he needed and schedule a time to come back...so vacation day three burned on the floor for a 5 minute visit at 5:00pm. Two weeks later, no call received. I called and spoke to Teresa in installed sales at Lowes who said she would need to call the installers and find out what was going on. I told her what they told me, and I signed a piece of paper that said all that. She said she did have that paper, but wasn't sure what they meant. Received a call back from Lowes saying that b/c it was special order flooring, it would take two weeks to get in, and the they would schedule the installers. I told her this was not special order, after arguing with me at first, she did see that this was not special order, and they had it in stock. She told me I should receive a call shortly from the installers to schedule. Another two weeks pass and I received a call from the installers, scheduling another two weeks out. They arrived, replaced what they said was the damaged areas. The installer said it should be OK, but "the floor will always have some squeaks". I knew being on a slab, this should not be the case. Within a week, all the joints were squeaking again, and they never fixed the issues in the kitchen the first time. Vacation day 4 burned. I brought in an independent flooring installer to give me an opinion. He said the flooring was still installed too tight, and the joints were damaged. He also said, on a concrete slab, if the floor is installed correctly, you should never have squeaks. This time I went to the store, went to the customer service desk. I wish I would have taken down the girls name, as every time I go in and try to return something she is VERY rude. She has no customer service skills, and should not be at the customer service desk. I told her my story, and told her the floor was still squeaking. She told me "yeah, laminate floors squeak, I have it in my house and it squeaks. I told her, I didn't care what her house does, and her sales people, as well as an independent contractor told me it should not. Her face became red, and she said "what do you want me to do for you". I said I would like to know what my options are b/c at this point, I am not happy with the install. She called the assistant manager over. I told him my story, he as very nice and said someone would be in touch. Two days later, I received a call from Teresa at Lowes. She said they would send a rep from the manufacturer out to inspect the floor and determine the cause of the squeaks. Three weeks later the manufacturer came. He said he couldn't discuss his findings with us directly, but he would report them to the store. Another two weeks pass, and I receive a call from Teresa. "The manufacturer found that the flooring was installed too tight against the wall, not leaving room for expansion, causing the joints to become damaged." "She needs to work with the manager, and see what they can do for me." Three weeks later, and three phone calls later that I called for an update, I received a call back. They are going to replace the entire floor in the kitchen and entry way. One week later, I received a call from the installers, scheduling for the following week. They showed and replaced the floor. I currently have no more squeaks, and I can now see the gap they were supposed to leave. Day 6 of vacation used for the floor. I hope when the warm summer months return, we won't have any issues again. Long story longer....Lowes did work to make it right..but it was a painful process that I would never go through again.

DAVID WINSCOTT

I contacted David Winscott a couple of weeks ago to see if he could give me an estimate for repairing an area in my kitchen where the Pergo laminate floor had been damaged by a dishwasher leak. It took a couple of calls but he came out with his crew today and had the floor repaired in a bit over an hour. Very pleasant and professional. The floor looks great! He does not try to over sell the job and charge for more than needs to be done--just a good job at a fair price. Thanks so much!!!

CROUSE CONSTRUCTION CO.

I finally had to hire a floor specialist to repair the floor at a cost of about $600. Apparently the floor was installed too tight with not enough space to expand because of the summer humidity. I know of no further recourse since I did not have a contract, and I paid them by check. Obviously I learned an expensive lesson. I wish to make everybody I can aware of this instance as to help insure that Crouse can't keep perpetuating his substandard workmanship and unresponsive customer service. During the past few months, we have dealt with a half dozen different contractors in remodeling our house, bathroom, closets, and kitchen. In every case they proved highly professional and competent, and provided us great customer service. This highlights even more the contrast I had with Crouse and accentuates the difference between competent craftsmen and the poorly performing companies and workers.

The mini-remodel, tiling, and flooring work were the best experience we have ever had with a contractor. Roland was always on time, polite and worked steadly daily until the jobs were completed and cleaned up daily. He even assisted us with a little painting that was not included in his estimate. My wife and I agreed to take up approx. 550 ft of old carpeting and padding in prep of the new flooring to maybe save alittle, but we found out it would have been well worth the money that Roland had estimated to do it. It took us all weekend, and as a courtesy Roland stop by over the weekend to see how we were doing. Truly went out of his way. Both jobs were completed timely without any problems and great conservative use of material. If you ever watched Holmes on Homes on HGTV, Roland is "Holmes" in this area. We have no problems in highly recommending this contractor.

THEY WERE EASY AND NICE TO WORK WITH (SALES/OFFICE STAFF). THE PERGO INSTALLER, KENNY, WAS A PERFECTIONIST. WE DID HAVE TO CALL BACK TO HAVE HIM FINISH MINOR TRANSITION PIECE THOUGH. THE CARPET INSTALLATION WAS BASIC, BUT HAD TO HAVE THEM COME BACK OUT TO CUT BOTTOM OF BATHROOM DOOR SO IT WOULD CLOSE. OVERALL, IT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE.

Recent Review: Danny's crew did an excellent job and were very professional and polite. Danny originally estimated the job to take two full days, but he brought extra men along and completed it the entire job in one day. They cleaned up all of their materials before they left and Danny said I could call him anytime if I noticed any imperfections. All the neighbors loved his work.

Recent Review: The whole process took about 2-1/2 months. The first phase of tearing out and drying took less than a day and then VERY LOUD fans and scrubbers were put in place to run for five days nonstop. This was not pleasant, but it wasn't the contractor's fault - it's just something that had to be done. The workers cordoned off the affected area with heavy plastic to keep any potential mold separated as much as possible from the rest of the house. When the drying was done, they removed that equipment and a reconstruction contractor came by to talk with me about the rehab process. Because they had to tear out some old tile and wood flooring, they redid the entire kitchen floor to match all new tile (and installed new wooden flooring). There were difficulties along the way because of scheduling my job and their work times, but we were able to coordinate and the supervisor, Joe, kept me updated by frequent texts (my preferred mode of communication). The workers cooperated with our need to walk through their work area when at home and made sure doors were locked when they left for the day if we weren't here. When a subcontractor had to be here, such as a plumber or cabinet rebuilding, someone with A & D was here with them. This was insurance work, so A & D's office staff, Tricia and Leah, were patient about being paid and didn't push the issue. Everybody was, in short, professional and I was able to get answers to questions I had, and the finished cabinet rebuild and new floor are very attractive.

Recent Review: Dave and his crew were exceptional. The floor is gorgeous. They were professional and clearly utilize their decades of experience to make the installation fast (3 installers, 2 full days). The instal date was set about 2 months in advance, and they came exactly on those dates. Delivery of the flooring a week ahead in order for the wood to aclimate to our home was also excellent. Finally, I had a quote from another company that was $1800 more expensive. I believe Guardian is able to charge lower prices because the owner is also the lead installer. No middleman to take 15-20% off the top.

Recent Review: I called Grout-tek October 20 or the 21, requesting an estimate for cleaning and re-grouting the floor in my entryway kitchen and one bathroom. I was expecting company in early November and wanted these floors to look nice. After listening to me whine unbecomingly when I was told they would not be able to come out until early November, I was given an appointment for October 24. Dennis called me on the day of the estimate to ask if we could move up our appointment by 1 hour, which I could accommodate. He was on time, and after looking at my floors, Dennis let me know that only my bathroom needed work. He helped me select the right color grout that would complement the bathroom. We set an appointment for November 6, which had my company kept their plans, would have given me sufficient time to have the entire home looking great. Dennis was on time, if not early, on November 6. He got to work quickly and 2 hours later the floor looked fabulous. Dennis left me with a cleaning product and extra touch-up grout.

Recent Review: The hardwood flooring in the 1950s home I recently purchased was in poor condition. It likely had never been sanded, there were many scratches and dark stains, nails showing, and a few areas where boards had been replaced and it was very obvious. The previous owners had added a "floor rejuvenator" and didn't prep the floors correctly prior to application so it was peeling up in several places. I had some concerns about a large bow in the floor as well. Additionally, I wanted new flooring laid in two areas and was hoping for it to match the existing floors. All Wood Flooring was able to take care of all of these things and far exceeded my expectations in price, length of time it took for them to come out, and length of time of the job itself. The floors look beautiful and I'm so happy with the results.

Recent Review: Some of the flooring boards had moved, exposing the sub floor near the base of the wall. Adam came out, pulled up the trim, and put in some wood shims to keep the floor boards from moving any more. I think the boards were cut too short to begin with. This is why they could move so much as to expose the sub floor. Adam did the original install and had fixed these boards once before. However, it has been almost 2 years and he still is happy to come out and stand behind his work. He is very conscientious and does good work. I will definitely use him for more flooring work.

What do customers in Indianapolis say about Pergo Flooring Installation?

July 8 - Owner Ken Bennett came out to give us an estimate to replace our chimney cover and install laminate flooring in kitchen. I liked him very much. He was very professional, kind, courteous and honest. July 11 - We received the estimates from Ken. We replied immediatedly hiring him to do both jobs. We received estimates from four other companies before Ken which all quoted the replacement of the chimney cover in stainless steel at 3X the price of Ken's galvanized steel. We are moving and didn't want stainless steel. July 12 - Ken emailed us stating he will order the chimney cover today. We ordered the flooring and padding from Lowe's. July 15 - Lowe's called - order is in. I let Ken know. July 27 - Kevin and his flooring team (4 total) arrived on time and job and it was done in a day. We are very pleased - the floors look amazing! Kevin works hard and did an execptional job! They hauled all the empty boxes away also. Aug 5: It took longer than the 10 days quoted to have another company fabricate a new chimney cover. However, at appointment time, Kent arrived on time. I offered for him to use our ladder for the 2nd story. He walked to the back yard and carried himself to the front of the house. I was amazed how quickly he climbed up two ladders to the chimney with all his gear like it was nothing! He removed the old chimney cover, came back down to get the new piece and hauled that huge 6' X 3' replacement cover and his gear up 2 ladders like a young boy! He went above and above by not only removing the wood board I had nailed to the first roof tier (so the ladder wouldn't slip) but siliconed the nail holes also. He gathered his tools, put the old cover in his truck to take away and quickly came inside for the next job which was to hang our bathroom vanity light that had fallen. Our wall didn't have enough support to hold the weight of 5 lights. He worked quickly and safely...very kind, knowledgable and professional.
