Alvarez Painting

The short version: a poor paint job and terrible customer service from a company run by a bully. Do not trust this company with your home. Pictures included in my Google review since I can't upload them here. Alvarez Painting (owner Paul, his son, and another employee) spent 2 days in April 2019 painting the ~20 doors in our home, as well as several doorframes and 2 rooms of baseboards. They did a rough job from the start, with thin and missed spots on all of the doors, as well as entire sections of doorframes that were missed completely or missed their second coat of paint. I noticed some of these issues on our final review and spent about an hour with the son getting things touched up; Paul spent that time rushing his son along and yelling at the other employee, as well as hurrying me to stop. I wasn't thrilled about the shade of white that the paint turned out (had been almond, they'd repainted using Extra White from Sherwin Williams but it still looked yellow and Paul said that was the best it would be). I paid them about $1800. After they left, I noticed more thin spots, the missed doorframes, etc and contacted Paul about them fixing these issues. He said they would come out after Memorial Day but completely ignored me after I tried multiple times to get something scheduled. I disputed <$200 of the painting charge with my credit card company to compensate for the work I'd have to put in to fixing the missed & poorly done spots but didn't dispute the whole charge because at the time I felt that would be unfair. In November 2019, I finally found the time to touch up the doors myself. I used the exact same paint type that they had, but wasn't able to use the exact can of paint because they'd left it open in the garage and it dried out. I did the touchups and immediately realized that what I'd just applied was a much whiter color than they'd applied. I had 2 other painting companies out to give me an assessment and estimate to fix - they both said that the paint had been watered down or otherwise improperly applied, and that's why there was a color difference. I contacted Paul again about getting a refund, as I would have to repaint everything they'd done because there were now whiter painted areas on every surface. He called me a liar and lied about how long they spent at my house (it was only 2 days, he said they were there for 5 and came back out). I wound up repainting those doors and trim myself, but did have one of the other painting companies out to repaint our front door the same Extra White color. For the record, their paint job came out as white as expected, with none of the discoloration of Alvarez Painting's handiwork.

Paul and his crew were fabulous! On time, great quality, great work ethic and a fair price! Best contractor I have used in Texas in the 20 years we’ve lived here!! Highly recommend!!

We first used Paul for painting our complete home interior ten years ago when we found him on Angie's List. He did such a good job that we subsequently used him for exterior painting, cabinet resurfacing and more interior painting. His company has grown to include more services and we will certainly be using him more often as our needs change and as our home ages. We heartily recommend Paul!

Excellent. Noe gave me an estimate on the same day I contacted them. We scheduled the work a few days later, and by the middle of the next week, the work was completed. I was pleased with the work, the promptness, their clean-up, and their desire and ability to make everything right. I have recommended them to several neighbors and would hire them again.

It went well. Alvarez's quote was the most reasonable of any of the companies we looked into, and they did a great and efficient job. He and his team were very nice and respectful. I would recommend them.

We needed our entire house painted, and we were able to use their services for half the cost of other companies.

Alvarez painting was exactly what you want and expect out of a contractor. I hired Mr. Alvarez in June for some light repairs to my outside patio deck, gutters and to paint my entire house on the outside. He and his crew did an amazing job. They were always professional, patient and courteous to me even when the job ended being more detailed and challenging than I had originally requested. His price quote was fair, and they were able to start and finish the job exactly on time. I will highly recommend Paul and his crew, and I will definitely be hiring him again to help me with my kitchen remodel.

Paul and co. did an excellent job. This was our second time working with Paul and we highly recommend him and his crew. They gave us a firm price and were very responsive. Also, they were extremely professional and friendly. I do believe that he and his son will be our contractors for a very long time. Very pleased with the results.

At first, he was my hero. Then, he started not showing up and not calling or texting why. Threatening to quit in the middle of the job, because, my Husband called him on the cementing of the surround of the sunken jacuzzi. The price kept rising. I ended up paying him $20K for what? I have a non-working Jacuzzi and a lot of unfinished painting. Ceiling shows a lot of imperfections because of the glazed paint. Installed 4 solid wood doors. Two of them were stained on the inside of the bedroom and painted on the inside of the bathroom and outside of the bedroom. The other doors were just painted. He did not complete the staining nor the painting. One of the trims inside of the bathroom, actually has paint on it from the wall. Not professional painting. Again, not showing up when he was suppose to be there with no explanation and maybe days later. Price exceeded what we had agreed on initially. Luckily, I was able to cove it. I believe that he knew that I had been through **** with 2 other contractors and took advantage of my vulnerability.

Excellent. Paul and his team were extremely professional and capable. They were also flexible and accommodated changed mid-project. Finally, they completed the project right on schedule despite a tight timeline.

Great. Finished ahead of schedule. Kept everything draped and clean. These guys are skilled professionals. Straight, clean lines along my trim, baseboards, cabinetry, etc.

Paul and his crew got to work right away and completely transformed our house. He even guided us with paint choices that ended up complementing the whitewashed ceilings. He was extremely professional and did an amazing job. Everything looks flawless. We had other issues come up during the move and he was able to coordinate his subcontractors to work with us. We were able to get everything done before we moved in at the end of the two week period. His son, Justin, is also super nice! We've already recommended Paul to our best friends and their hiring him to work on their home. We're planning on painting the exterior portion of the house in the future and you can be assured that we will be hiring Paul and his crew.

They never returned my call when I asked for a bid

I used Alvarez Painting for complete interior painting, repairs and carpet for an investment property (1500 sq. ft.) and the entire experience was excellent. They were able to work with me on a short timeline, the communication throughout was great, they were accommodating to the inevitable changes/additions that tend to pop up in renovations and their pricing was very fair. Paul and his crew did a fantastic job and I simply cannot recommend them enough.

I recently have gone thru a remodeling nightmare spending $$ thousands $$ of dollars and experiencing the worst drywall and paint job I've ever seen. To correct this I went to Angie's List and found Alvarez Painting Company. Paul Alvarez, the owner and General Contractor, was absolutely wonderful to work with! He assessed my issues, gave me a very reasonable bid, showed up on time with a professional and English speaking crew, sanded all my walls and cabinets down, used **quality paint**, covered all furniture, floors, counters, used extreme care in handling breakables, and did a fantastic job fixing the mess I was left with the first time around. Paul was also on property and working along side his crew the entire time so If I had any questions/problems, they were handled immediately. At the end of each day there was no mess, STRESS and very little dust. When they completed this phase of my project, they replaced all switch plates, etc, moved all items back to their original places. I could barely tell they had been there...no paint in my bushes, sidewalk, carport, brick....VERY Impressive! Whether you live in a million dollar home or a small condo, they will treat your project with the same respect and pride in workmanship. Angie's list rated them an A+, I would rate them an A+++! I am having Paul come back and finish out my bedrooms and then my home will be showroom ready, at least on the inside! Fixing the yard up is going to be another beast of a project!

I was very pleased with the job they did. Mr. Alvarez is very knowledgeable on the work he does. Will be calling him in the future to do more work for us.

Paul did a great job. I initially asked for the painting quote and Paul was very competitive. In addition he gave me an estimate for all other jobs I was already getting quotes for from other contractors like the hardwood floor, granite counter-top replacement and backsplash replacement. He was most competitive on all of them saving me thousands of dollars. The job took almost 3 weeks and was completed on time. Everything was done very well. Paul organized all the work and had no problem with me changing my mind in the middle of the project. Communication was excellent and there were no surprises. He even fixed our baseboards free of charge after the new carpet was put in resulting in small damage here and there. Overall I will use Alvarez painting for our future renovation projects and highly recommend everybody to give them a shot.
