When we opened our pool last spring, the pool pump was incredibly loud. Because it was spring pool opening season, my usual pool service company couldn't get to us for a couple of weeks, and I didn't want to use the pump - it was too loud to subject my neighbors to that. I found Perkins Pools on Angie's List, and Tim was able to come out the same day. He said it needed to be replaced. He wanted cash in advance to buy the replacement pump, which i thought was odd but I figured his business was new, cash flow is tough, etc.....I paid him, they did return with the pump and installed it. All seemed fine. He was very pleasant to work with. But this year, I had the exact same problem at pool opening, despite having a pump that wasn't even a year old. I called Tim, he answered, and after I filed him in on the problem, he said that was odd, he needed to call someone to ask about this (i thought he meant the pump company since it was less than a year later so under warranty). He said he'd call them and call me right back. He never called back. After a few hours i tried to reach him. And a few times the next day - he would no longer answer my calls! I found his company page on Facebook and sent him a message that way, but again no response. I contacted my old usual pool service company, they came out and said it was probably installed incorrectly and needed total replacement. I knew this was going to be expensive, since I'd just gone through it the year before. But the other pool company charged a little more than half of what Tim charged! So he overcharged me by almost double, did shoddy work, and then was ridiculously unprofessional and unresponsive when I called him about the problem.

Walter Stewart, the electrician, called ahead of time to let me know he was on his way and was even able to come early if I wanted. He correctly diagnosed and repaired the problem and was honest, knowledgeable, and professional. He replaced the switch and put silicone around the housing to waterproof it.

Our pool pump was making a lot of noise. Since this was only our second year with a pool and we had fired last year's pool company, I got two estimates for the issue. I called two companies and had them listen to the motor on the phone. Both companies said it was the motor. The first said we needed to replace the entire pump but Kevin said we could just replace the motor which saved us about $300 dollars. He did the work the next day, Friday, so that we would have a nice, quiet, functioning pool pump for the weekend. We have been very pleased with Kevin and his wife, Linda. They always call right back and come right away when there is an issue. When Kevin opened our pool he explained to me how to clean out the filters. I did this after a month and was unable to put the parts back together tightly so the pump would not function. Kevin came right away and put it all together the next day. Hooray!

Charlie did a great job in explaining alternatives for each of the components in my system that needed re-evaluation. (Resulted in multiple purchases and referrals) As an engineer I shared with others the wonderful job that was done (saving me time and hassle). I bought a new system and am pleased. I would use this vendor again. Overall I give it a "B" only because there was some confusion at the "Other Dept." pick up dock (OTHERWISE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN "A".

All three times I made an appointment to have the service tech come, Aquarian gave me a week-long time span within which the tech would show up. They said they would call the day before the tech was scheduled to arrive. Two of the three times, the tech did not show up in the appointed week. When I called to find out when the tech would arrive, the office staff told me that I had the wrong week and the tech would be out the following week. I never received a call the day before, letting me know when the tech would show up, even though he was a week late. Before opening the pool this spring, we needed the tech to come look at the pool pump to ascertain why it wasn't working at closing. When I spoke to the (femaie) owner, she asked me a couple of questions about the pump. I replied that I didn't know what was wrong with the pump...just that it wasn't working at the end of last season. She said the tech could diagnose the pump problem without opening the pool. I scheduled the appointment. Again, I had no idea when the tech was going to show up, so I awaited his verdict. When he got there, I wasn't home, so he did call me as I requested. By the time I called him back a few minutes later, he had already left my house, told me the pool pump motor was fine, and that there was nothing else he could diagnose unless the pool was already open. For all of this, he left me a bill of $170. I called back and talked to an assistant manager and explained that our pool pump problem was not resolved and that I wanted Aquarian to take care of it within the next 24 hours. He was very apologetic and said he would have the owner call me when she got in. She did and immediately started to yell at me that I owed them $170, and that I should have told her I needed the pool opened prior to checking the pool pump. I asked her to stop yelling, and explained that I looked to Aquarian to be the experts in the pool pump, as I have never owned a pool before. She finally calmed down and suggested that I pay half of the bill, for the service tech's time and that they would open the pool and resolve the pump issue. I refused payment on the service call, and ended our relationship at that point. I had a different service company open up the pool a week later, and we found our pool to be completely filled with algae and colonized by frogs. When I spoke to the new company, they said that at the pool closing Aquarian should have put in an algae packet, plus given us wintertime chlorination to place in the skimmers on a monthly basis. Aquarian suggested nothing of the kind last fall. The pool has been open for 10 days, and we are still trying to get the water cleared of all of the algae. I wish I'd checked Angie's List prior to using Aquarian. Their customer service and technical service are very poor.

A&D Specialty Services is amazing! Doug, Dougie & Mike are our family now. We had original water damage upstairs that effected a huge area. They came the same day I called and setup everything to get us dried out. Their build back for that damage is amazing! It looks like we have a whole new house. Less than a week after we had original water damage our water heater expansion tank broke. So our water heater exploded (adding insult to injury). I called Dougie at like 2am and he got up, got his equipment and came to our house at 5 o'clock in the morning to come take care of the issue. He installed a new water heater took out the old water heater, and got everything squared away to dry out the basement. I refer them to everyone I know! They are always professional, very reliable and treat you like family. I will always go to them first for any service they can provide. Thank you for all you guys have done and continue to do!!!!

Someone came out to the house, he seemed to be a nice guy, he looked at the heater pointed out several installation flaws and pronounced that the heater needed to be replaced. I got the distinct impression he just didnt feel like messing with it he didnt even look up the error code it was displaying. I paid close to $100 for this call. Several weeks later a different service fixed the heater by installing a $75 part and charged me another $75 to install it.

The swimming pool itself is great, but the electric cord that came with the pool pump did not meet code requirements. I was disappointed that the correct cord did not automatically come with the pool pump and that Warehouse didn't have the cord I needed. Initially I was told that it was my problem and to go to Home Depot to get what was needed. I spent several hours calling places to find the cord I needed and was finally able to find the cord I needed from another pool supply company. I think the pump should have come with both types of cord attachments. Unbeknownst to me, you need the regular 3-prong cord to temporarily run the pump, but to pass code inspection you need a locking plug. Fabulous service to the consumer would be that both types of cords would come with the pump. The second issue that cropped up was that the pump was leaking. After calling the store a second time, I got Rob on the phone and he went above and beyond to get the problem resolved. He personally came to my house with a new replacement part and fixed the problem. Also when I told him the cost for the correct electric cord, he brought additional chemicals for me to use as compensation. Rob was able to take me from an disappointed consumer to a very satisfied customer. Rob gets an "A" for service. I only wish "A" service had been my only experience with this project.

Everyone Dave sent was very professional and did excellent work. There were a few issues along the way that were quickly resolved.. The water heater purchased was missing a part so it would not light. They went to a store to get the part and stayed at my house until 7:30 PM to get the water heater functioning.

We have been trying to get our heater fixed in our SPA for almost 2 months now. The Spa kept tripping off so we called the folks who use to service it (Tim's Pool & SPA). They told us that it wasn't our heater, had to be our electric. We had an electrician come in and replace the pole and the GFI Switch ($500). The hot tub kept tripping. We were told to email pics of the heater to them and they would look at them, but they never got back with us. We finally were fed up with the waiting game and found Ken on Angie's List. He came out right away, had a new heater on hand, and fixed it right up. He even called later that day to confirm all was working well. He said it was a good thing we didn't try to use it, we could have been electrocuted. Thanks Ken! I have deleted the other place and added you as our new Spa Service Contact! Definitely recommend!

Recent Review: The man in charge didn't check his work. He put my tub knobs back so you couldn't see the hot and cold. When he left I flushed the toilet and it kept on running. I had to call him back, lucky he wasn't to far away. if you use them make sure you check the work before they leave.

Recent Review: A company that had promised to fix the pump, but through office communication errors, told us they wouldn't be providing service, actually provided the service. I contacted Jeff to cancel the appointment. His quote was probably half the price of what we paid the other company. Though Jeff didn't actually provide physical service, his customer service, knowledge, and willingness to squeeze us in on a very busy holiday weekend are impressive...will be contacting him for pool maintenance, opening, and closings in the future!

Recent Review: While the timing of the pool closing was not critical, it did happen about a week later than we had expected. As I look out at the pool, it looks well closed. Russ had to add some extra stain preventer, due to all the leaves that had fallen in--most of which he said he removed before closing.

Recent Review: Matt the owner of Restoradry gave me a quote within hours of looking at the hole to patch. It was very fair for work and hours that went into this project. Recent Review: My preferred provider for opening and closing my 5 year old vinyl liner pool is no longer in business. I called this company because I like using businesses located fairly nearby. Although they are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, I did get a return phone call on a Saturday which I did appreciate. The work was scheduled quickly and arranged for the afternoon of 4/19. I received a phone call in the AM and voice mail indicating that they would arrive that afternoon which they did. Unfortunately, there were cigarette butts left back by the pump area where they had been smoking while working. The salt system was turned on when it should not have been as the water line first needs to be correct, and then allow it to stabilize prior to engaging the system. This was ignored. There were several errors on the salt system control panel which I now require service to review. The cost of the work was 34% higher than past years. Perhaps the most unfortunate part of this experience was John's comments about how he does not like salt-generated chlorine systems. I felt I needed to defend my choices and he made it clear that this is not the type of system he really thinks works well. I won't be using this company again. And, now I need a service call to engage someone to look at the control panel errors of the Aqua Rite chlorination system.

Recent Review: We sold our home in May 2010 and three days prior to closing the pool pump quit working. I immediately contacted them and they ordered a new pump. We were already departing the area the they contacted us the next day after checking out the pool. They could find not a pump problem but a possible electrical problem. We returned to the area the following day and they met us and did some trouble shooting and then called their electrician. He was there within 2 hours and fixed the problem within 15 minutes. This allowed us to procede with the house closing as planned. As they have always been, professional, responsive and thorough.
