Altruistic Home Repair/Remodel

Al Hartley sent his employee to my home to do the work and now I find out that he did a really bad job. The roots were growing in my shower again. Strand Brothers has been at my home recently to fix the plumbing and I was told that Al's employee botched the job. They have pictures which prove it. Al sent his new employee to my home without any supervision whatsoever. Now I have to pay a professional to fix the job that was done incorrectly. I should not have to pay this money to fix a problem that should have been fixed by Al. This is costing me a lot of money. I was swindled by Al the Handyman.

I paid him a lot of money and he did not fix the problem. Now I have to pay to get the work done again by a professional who will fix it. Al Hartley needs to be exposed for being a crook and not responsible for the work that he performs. He is a crook and taking money for work that is terrible.

Al was super responsive, and even went to get new hinges for me when the ones I bought did not work. He made sure his workers completed the work on time, which was a huge deal to us.

BUYER BEWARE Mr. Hartley did not perform the work as specified. He began the demo of our property, which took more than a week and was not completed, and did not dispose of any trash. He failed to check his work which caused a 2-day plumbing leak from our upstairs bathroom, through the ceiling, and onto the floor of our living room. He agreed to repair the damages, but did not. He picked up our new vanities and sinks, and instead of delivering them to the job site, took them and kept them. He would not provide an estimate cost for materials, and demanded payment before revising our contract to account for the changes in the specified services. He sent a fabricated bill for materials he wanted to collect money for. He and his office manager has not returned any calls or responded to any correspondence.

Horrible experience! I should have known from the start that this company was a joke. Firstly, when the workers showed up, they couldn't speak English and it wasn't for about another hour that the supervisor came to get them started and never even acknowledged me to confirm my expectations. Long story short, the tile job was done incorrectly and had to be ripped out and redone. I had to pay for additional materials. Also, they taped my concrete floor even though I kept insisting to the worker not to and in the end he did and it removed the stain. I am still repairing damages that this company did. Al is an out of touch contractor who does not run his jobs at all. This CA liscenced company should go back. We need honorable contractors in Texas.

We have used them many times for just about any kind of job a remote landlord could need. We are in a different city and cannot come by for semi-urgent repairs. Al has always responded quickly, usually has the job done in a day or two, and always at a fair price. I can pay by credit card and he coordinates with the tenant.

He is great. He installed 7 grab bars, used for balance, around the house and used special bolts that increased the amount of weight that they could withstand and made them extremely secure. He did a superb job. He measured them spot on and installed them in very convenient places. He cleaned up after himself as well.

I called them on a Saturday and they called me right back. They met with me on a Saturday afternoon. They started working on Monday morning and were done in a week. He was prompt and everything was very professional. The work was quality and he came in with an Angie’s List discount which was nice.

The service provider did great work and did more finish out work then what was required. However, i think the service provider exaggerated the time it would take and i pay for the estimated time rather than the actually time which was a lot less than quoted.

I have not used anyone yet. We are still avidly attempting to find just the right wooded lot to build on, however, every single person/business I have contacted for general info I needed were exceptional! I never look any where else but Angie's List for outside help! Ever! We will be much more active when we find the lot and begin clearing the brush and trees. Overall experience was not bad, but not great. Kitchen remodels are always complicated and hard. Al and his team were all very courteous, friendly, and professional. My project was pretty large, but took longer than it should because workers were called off to other jobs many times. Also, this was not communicated well, usually after the fact when I asked where they were. On the whole quality was pretty good in the end, although it took some re-work.

This contractor's estimate was approximately 1/2 the amount of the other estimates I received so I was a little hesitant in signing a contract with him - I shouldn't have been. He arrived on the jobsite at the promised date and was receptive to some small revisions to the contract. The original workers did some below acceptable work, so Al came to the jobsite, removed all of the unacceptable work and completed the project himself. His professionalism and willingness to satisfy me were outstanding. I definitely would use this company again.

Asked Al to remove a digital A/C thermostat and replace it with drywall. Wish Al would have asked if I need my thermostat back, expected some courtesy. Also wish Al was upfront with not knowing roof leak fixes. However, I would not blame Al for it since I had to go through three roofers and lots of money to fix the leak.

Overall, we were very happy with Al's workers and crew. They went out of their way to do a great job!

Al and his team have done a fantastic job every time we have used them. We recently remodeled our home and have needed several items repaired or replaced. Al is always on time and does excellent work. He is not the cheapest option available but his professionalism and ease of use justifies the cost in my opinion. I highly recommend Al The Handyman.

Project went well. Hourly rate is high or I would have used them for more. Al is professional, but he just sends someone out to do the work and doesn't really supervise. Long story short he skims off the hourly rate for himself therefore profiting off of someone else. I have since found more affordable services.

Al was so professional. He patiently gave our team 4 quotes as we processed the different ways of making an office as sound-proof as possible. We finally decided and his guys did the work in only 4 days. The work was well-done (especially for the materials they had to work with), it was done quickly, inexpensively (bid was lower than others) and cleanly. Al's professionalism and responsiveness is fantastic. We will definitely use them again!

It went well, he was punctual, the problem turned out to be small so he took some off of his price. It's pretty amazing what service people charge for just showing up. It took probably 45 minutes or less from the time he showed up went to the parts store, came back and replaced washers in the hot and cold handles. He charged 60.00 for this and he explained his usual charge would have been more, service people know that they can charged these prices which seems high to me but if I knew what the problem was then I wouldn't had to call him.

Al gave a 30 minute arrival window and showed up within the time frame. He also explained what was wrong with the bi-fold door and toilet in case the problem reoccured. If so, I can fix it myself next time. Al was professional and friendly.

The service was very good and they completed the work quickly. They did the work for much less than another company I received a quote from. They found a way to fix the problem without doing massive replacement.
