Hello @EPorto (WMB):, I submitted a banner request for Wikidata's 10th birthday to run during the whole month of October. I think we can share the display between both of our campaigns, would that be OK for you? Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 06:11, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, @Lea Lacroix (WMDE)! Yes, no problem. I would only ask to keep the first week (5-12) without overlap, just so we can get momentum at the start of the contest, is that a possibility? Cheers, EPorto (WMB) (talk) 16:43, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Hello,

Please could you take a look at our banner request and confirm if the content is correct? We would appreciate your support with publishing it next week. It was actually suppose to be publish by this week (12th August) but I guess we are running late and sorry about that. @Ciell:, @DerHexer:, @Romaine:, @Steinsplitter:, @Martin Urbanec: Thanks, Ptinphusmia (talk) 17:08, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi @Ptinphusmia, please fill in the missing information for the targetting in the template: which project(s) and what language(s). I see on your meta page you have a limited number of countries participating: I'd like to propose to target them specifically, and not all countries in the world if that's okay. For the banner the logo is perfectly fine: can you also give me one or maybe two line of text with max. 50-70 characters? Ciell (talk) 02:50, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you @Ciell for your response. I have responded to all your questions in the template. Please let me know if there's anything I missed or any additional information you would love to have. Ptinphusmia (talk) 19:03, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ptinphusmia, I'd love to create the campaign for you, but a few more questions:
  • I read on the landing page that the International Youth Day was on August 12, so last week? Is it over now?
  • If yes: I notice that in the banner text you want to invite people to join in the International Youth Month. Maybe you have a more specific page that we can link to from the banner? With every step people have to do to get to the information you want them to read, you will lose engagement, so it is best to be as specific as possible.
  • Some of the countries you would like the banner to be active in are also running a Wiki Loves Monuments banner - you can reach out to the organizers of the national Wiki Loves Monuments campaign (list of names and contacts is here on Commons), and see if you both can find some consensus for the banner space. We cannot show two banners at once, but we can implement a diet that allows for alternating banners for instance. Ciell (talk) 18:48, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell! Thanks for reaching out. Apologies for the late response. The campaign is not over yet even though the meta page stated 12th August. Most communities will be running their local events starting this week into probably September due to delay in grant approval. This was put into consideration in making it a month-long event. But this came after we had created the meta page you saw. Prior to now, there have been other events in preparation for the local events. The landing page you saw is the page in use. This said, please know that I'm open to suggestions on how best we can move forward. Ptinphusmia (talk) 20:10, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Discussion[edit]

So... the details would have to be discussed with CentralNotice admin depending on what other banners are running at that time. The general idea is the following...

  • The project is meant to get people to participate to the effort around Mid-October / Mid December (this is not a contest, there is no hard set beginning and ending dates)
  • This is at the same time a content production drive and an awareness of the existence of Wikiquote. So we would like to run a banner which will be visible on Wikiquote (for wikiquote regularly active participants), but also on Wikipedia (to bring attention on the campaign)
  • This suggest a banner which will not be a high-frequency/full two-month duration, but rather a peak at the beginning (around early October), followed by a more discreet banner or some reminders during the rest of the campaign. I am aware of banner fatigue and that several banners are always running at the same time and do not want to impose.
  • The initial peak would ideally be made on all languages Wikipedia/Wikiquote to bring attention to the largest and foster the creation of a local effort. However, each community organize itself around local portals (about 10 languages participated the two previous years), so it feels that the lower frequency of banners in the second part of the calendar could probably focus only on languages in which there is a dedicated effort.
  • To be discussed...

Discussion[edit]

  • @Ed Erhart (WMF): Thanks for the mock-ups. Do you think it makes sense to have the close button and translate section included in the mock-up? Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 21:20, 30 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Hi @DerHexer: we'll have a close button in the final banner. For translations, we're doing Arabic, Bahasa, English, French, German, Hindi, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, and we'll match the banner language with the translated landing page and other content. We have thought about leaving the translation open for other contributions, but are also concerned that someone will see the banner in their language, but will be disappointed that the landing page isn't. What's your recommendation? Based on last week's conversation, I just updated the banner diet – 100%, with decreased frequency for logged in and out users. What do you think? Finally, we'll reach out to User:Romaine to coordinate our banner diet with WLM's. Anything we are missing? MPourzaki (WMF) (talk) 19:12, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@MPourzaki (WMF): It's pretty common practice to have banner texts translated but only a reduced number of languages of the landing page. Translators could decide to include that into their translations (“English landing page”) or could help with localization of the landing page (which should generally be translatable beyond the languages you provide). Can you add links to the campaign and banner(s) here as well so that it's easier to find them? Thanks in advance! Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 10:36, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@DerHexer: Sounds good to us! The Meta landing page is linked above, and we're still working to code the banners. Ed WMF [talk] 23:30, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@DerHexer:, updating the campaign launch time to 10:00 UTC on Tuesday, Sep 13. Thank you. MPourzaki (WMF) (talk) 18:53, 1 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@MPourzaki (WMF): What do you mean with “Impressions limiting: 100%, Frequency cap: 3 for logged in, 2 for logged out, Reset after click”? I'm not sure about the frequency cap. Do you want me to set a cookie which stops displaying the banner as soon as it was shown 3 resp. 2 times? What would be reset after click? Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 20:16, 1 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@DerHexer, banner 1 says "learn more" and banner 2 is "enter now." Our hope is that if people click on "learn more," from then on they will only see "enter now." Otherwise, they will see "learn more" 3 times if they are a logged in user (targeting community members more) and 2 for logged out readers. What do you think? MPourzaki (WMF) (talk) 20:30, 1 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Central Notice admin comments[edit]

  • @MPourzaki (WMF): I've created a campaign and banner for registered users (3 times visible per week), and a campaign and banner for anonymous users (2 times visible per week).
    • The English texts are deposited in the banner pages. You can find the links where you can enter the translations into other languages in the banner previews (registered, anonymous); just change to the target language and submit your texts.
    • However, a sequence of banners as proposed (once banner 1 was clicked, banner 2 should be visible) has to be scripted somehow. But that's beyond my abilities. Please check the stuff I did so far and let me know.
  • Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 20:46, 1 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Hi @DerHexer:, thank you so much for your work. I still get "you are not authorized to preview banners, but from the ones I see, things look great." Just a note that the Learn More banner and the Enter Now banner have different texts, please see uploaded visuals above. If the sequencing is complicated, how about we show Learn More for the first week and Enter Now for the remaining 3 weeks? Here is a link to our concept of the visuals. Thanks again for everything. MPourzaki (WMF) (talk) 14:25, 6 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
      • @MPourzaki (WMF): Done, “What is the sound of all human knowledge? You can help us create it. Submit your sound.” was included. I hope that this was right. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 10:18, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@DerHexer, comparing to the banners above, we have the first one set:
        • We usually invite the world to create the sum of all human knowledge. Now we are inviting the world to create the sound of all human knowledge. Learn More.
        • Play your part! Take part in an open contest to find the sound of all human knowledge – a sound log for all Wikimedia projects. Enter Now.
I'm sorry if this wasn't coded well by us previously. MPourzaki (WMF) (talk) 14:41, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Alright. Is it correct now? :) Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 14:45, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Above I see registered reflecting one banner and anonymous reflecting the other. The previews look great, thank you so much. Both banners can be presented to both anonymous and registered users. By the way, this is the website to link to: https://soundlogo.wikimedia.org/ MPourzaki (WMF) (talk) 15:58, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @DerHexer, I have now uploaded our existing translations (en + 8 languages) for both banners. Will you check to make sure this has been done correctly? Also sharing the landing page / website for both banners: https://soundlogo.wikimedia.org/
Thank you so much, less than a week to go until launch :) MPourzaki (WMF) (talk) 16:01, 8 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@MPourzaki (WMF): I've marked these translations as published. That should do.
Thanks as well for the link to the landing page. Since this has translated content as well, I've added a script to the banners which directly takes the readers on these projects to the localized landing page, with a default for the English source text for other wikis and English-language wikis. Please check the example previews: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:54, 8 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you, DerHexer! These look nearly perfect, as I assume the Dutch one will be translated shortly. We have three last tweaks to request:
Correction, DerHexer, we've gotten some Foundation staff on board to make these changes and save you some time. :-) Ed WMF [talk] 21:34, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ed Erhart (WMF): I've checked the changes and they look good to me now. Another developer already fixed the code so that my additional scripts should be doing. I have also checked if the change of text caused invalidation of the translations. Fortunately, this does not seem to be the case. If possible, provide text only once. Let me know when you have the landing page translated into more languages. The forwarding on local wikis to the translated landing page can be easily ammended by newly supported languages. If we don't add that to the banner texts, the readers will be taken to the English page first. (This only applies to translations of the landing page. Please don't ping me when just the banners were translated into other languages.) Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 07:48, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@DerHexer: I'm sorry we caused that concern at such a late hour, but I'm glad to hear it didn't invalidate any of the existing translations! It was an unfortunately small oversight of the kind we usually catch. Here are the translated landing pages:
Ed WMF [talk] 14:21, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Could someone (@DerHexer?) please protect the two images used in the banners commons:File:Sound_Logo_Logo.png and commons:File:Wikimedia_wordmark.png. Peter Coombe (WMF) (talk) 19:31, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Done. —DerHexer (Talk) 19:42, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks, both! Ed WMF [talk] 23:28, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@DerHexer: Would it be possible to enable the banners? :-) Ed WMF [talk] 14:52, 13 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Done. Is there a reason why the banners should not be shown on other language wikis? Users could help out with banner translations and could be taken to the English landing Page. —DerHexer (Talk) 16:06, 13 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @DerHexer, thank you, we are live and couldn't be more grateful. The banner could be shown on all language wikis, maybe I entered this wrong at the beginning. If possible, please activate. I just wanted to make sure the 9 priority and translated languages were singled out. English is great for the rest. Danke. MPourzaki (WMF) (talk) 16:53, 13 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Done. —DerHexer (Talk) 17:35, 13 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hopefully one of, if not the, last question for you, DerHexer! We'd like to change the banner wording to call out when we're in the last week of submissions (2022-10-03 to 10-10). I'm thinking all we'd need to do is edit the CNBanner: translation pages to add the new text, keeping the lengths similar, and we wouldn't have to ask you or anyone else with the appropriate userrights to take on any additional work. Is that plan correct and allowable under central notice guidelines/practices? Ed WMF [talk] 02:27, 21 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ed Erhart (WMF): Some thoughts about that: It's technically possible to replace the English text with a new one. I'm not sure if all translations will be automatically invalidated or not. The answer to that would not prevent the next step: Copying your translations of the new text into the supported languages. It's pretty likely that a translation administrator has to approve them to be published (for both banners = 16 clicks). If we assume that the other languages into which volunteers have translated the texts will be invalidated, likely the new English original text will be displayed (and translators encouraged to translate into their languages once again; an extra burden for them). If we assume that the other languages will not be invalidated, you are running the same banner with different meanings globally—maybe translations could be invalidated manually but I will not spend time on that. If new translations are favored, a manual clone of the banner might be the best choice (because cloning the banner would also clone all translations; which usually ends up in severe chaos). Alright, what works best for you? Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 15:05, 23 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Central Notice admin comments[edit]

To help with more translations for this year's banner, I've already copied last years banners (link for translations).

NB: securepoll link, landing page link, etc still need to be updated in the banners. Translators would like to get an early start in translations.
Both banners still need a script review before going live, would you be able to do this @DerHexer? Ciell (talk) 08:50, 28 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

There are no scripts in the banner right now. —DerHexer (Talk) 23:35, 28 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks @DerHexer! And the style is up to date as well? Ciell (talk) 18:15, 30 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ciell: I'm not sure what you mean. It's not my banner, and if the WMF (@MPossoupe (WMF):) is okay with the style, I'm also fine with it. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 17:58, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks! Campaign is now also ready here. @MPossoupe (WMF) Since the voting eligibility is quite complex, the banner will be shown to all logged in users, even if the are not eligible for voting at the moment of the elections. Ciell (talk) 18:47, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you, @Ciell and @DerHexer,
It's ok if shown to all logged users. Also regarding the style, same as the one of last year, banner is good to go.
Thanks
MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 20:37, 7 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @MPossoupe (WMF), thanks for the review.
From our side we are still waiting for an updated landingpage link and securepoll link. If my memory serves me right (and please correct me if I am wrong!) we encountered some problems with especially the latter in last years elections, so it might be wise to set this up in time and test before the banner goes live. Ciell (talk) 09:33, 9 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell,
The landing page will be this one: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2022/Community_Voting
From there, voters will have to click on the button to land on the voting page.
Let me know if there is something else we can provide.
Many thanks
Ping: @JKoerner (WMF) MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 14:51, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell and @DerHexer,
The community vote period has been changed. New dates: 6th 16th August 2022 → 30th August 2022.
Can you, please, adjust the campaign accordingly?
Many thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 08:46, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@MPossoupe (WMF): 30th August 23:59 UTC? That's how I changed it (with start time 6th August 0:00 UTC). Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2022/Community_Voting doesn't seem to be up to date. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 11:18, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think @MPossoupe (WMF) might have meant 16th? Ciell (talk) 16:29, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, it's not pretty clear how they want it to be changed, tbh. ;) —DerHexer (Talk) 16:43, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ciell @DerHexer,
my bad, it is from 16th August at 00:00 UTC to 30th August 23:59 UTC.
Sorry for the confusion.
Many thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 17:00, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Alright, fixed to 16th. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 17:09, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 17:17, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @MPossoupe (WMF): just to be clear, you do not want the banner to have a direct link to the SecurePoll (for instance under the blue "vote now" button), like we had last year? (preview of the banner now) Ciell (talk) 14:37, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell,
Yes, correct. No direct link to securePoll. Clicking on the button will redirect to the community voting page.
I have a look at the preview, the link on the button is correct.
Many thanks, ⁣
MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 18:25, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell @DerHexer,
As per the announcement from the election committee on Wikimedia-l, the voting period has been delayed.
Voting opens on August 23 at 00:00 UTC and closes on September 6 at 23:59 UTC.
Can you please, once again, update the campaign accordingly?
Many thanks for your help
MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 16:28, 13 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @MPossoupe (WMF), yes, I noticed the email. Will you notify all the translators as well please? They will have to change the texts and I (we) will have to approve all again. Ciell (talk) 19:13, 13 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I take photos of the European Championships for Wikipedia and won't be available much until its end (22 August). —DerHexer (Talk) 21:30, 13 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@DerHexer: you mean in case we need help for last minute trouble shooting? Noted, thanks! Ciell (talk) 16:54, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell,
yep, sure we will request the translation update.
@DerHexer, enjoy your photos session MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 11:30, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell,
Just pinging to ensure we have the CN banner ready for tomorrow, opening of the community voting.
Many thanks for your help
MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 12:32, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, it is. I'll turn it on with my first cup of coffee, so I can have an eye out. Ciell (talk) 17:14, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh, and @MPossoupe (WMF), I've set the translations to go live (there is a bug that this has to be done manually by a CN admin every time), but Czech, Hausa, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Ukrainian have not been updated yet. Ciell (talk) 17:19, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Many thanks @Ciell. Do the translations that have not been updated block the others completed translations to rendered? Pinging @DBarthel (WMF).
Thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 17:26, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No, *I think* they will see the previous text of the banner in their respective language. Untranslated languages see the default English text. Ciell (talk) 17:28, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Great. Thanks @Ciell MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 17:31, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Morning @Ciell, thanks for activating the banner! One of my colleague reports that the pt banner uses 2021 message: https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikip%C3%A9dia:P%C3%A1gina_principal
Possible to have a look? Many thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 11:56, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @MPossoupe (WMF), that's strange, the translations tell me this 2022 is used for Polski. Can they share a screenshot, or more specific information about this? What happens when they click on "Help with translations"? How did they see it was the 2021 message? (Because indeed we do use the same wording as we did last year.) Ciell (talk) 12:00, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell, it is Portuguese (pt-br). The links on the button and on the text are good. MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 12:09, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This is the current translation for pt-br... I need additional details, preferably a screenshot as well, before I will be able to reproduce and see where this error comes from. Ciell (talk) 12:37, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Or, I have switched it off for pt-br. What do they see now? Ciell (talk) 12:46, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks, @Ciell. I have them to check and confirm. Will let you know here. My colleague is going to provide a pt translation so that we can use it instead of pt-br one. Once ready will let you know so that we can test again. Many thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 13:44, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ciell, We now have a pt translation with status "ready". Can we now switch it on pt and check?
Many thanks for your help MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 18:39, 23 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yep, here is a screenshot @Ciell
Thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 15:21, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @MPossoupe (WMF) I have not yet had time to work on this campaign today and did not turn on pt-br again, nor processed any new translations (will try to get to that tonight).
So: is this a screenshot of today? Because that could mean there is different bug at hand. It would be valuable to not only see the banner but also (at least) the URL address in the screenshot. This is not me requesting proof (I believe your colleague!) but I need more information to track the source and fix the problem, or file a bug report for the developers if I cannot help. Ciell (talk) 17:57, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks, @Ciell. I don't succeed to see the pt banner for now. Neither does my colleague. Will share a recent screenshot if we see it.
Many thanks MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 20:59, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No worries, that means things are okay, since I turned off the banner for pt yesterday. Ciell (talk) 21:08, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@MPossoupe (WMF): please let me know if the text is updated for you and your colleague now! Ciell (talk) 21:14, 24 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ciell, confirming it is fixed now.
Many thanks
MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 09:12, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for the confirmation! Ciell (talk) 09:25, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please, temporarily stop the banner. In 57.6% languages, the end vote date is wrong. More about. @Ciell and MPossoupe (WMF): Info ping. ✍️ Dušan Kreheľ (talk) 00:24, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you for this list @Dušan Kreheľ, this is actually very helpful!
Looking at your information, they all are community generated translations, not the one that were provided by the translations team before the start of the election period. I did not stop the banner, but did decrease the diet and have reached out to others to help me find why this banner is somehow connected to the 2021 election. Ciell (talk) 09:29, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Dušan Kreheľ: all errors should be fixed now. Thanks again! Ciell (talk) 19:55, 25 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Danielly Figueredo, I have created the campaign and the banner: please check the preview and tell me if it's okay before I enable it. I think with the previous campaign you had an image without the dates for the banner? Ciell (talk) 16:05, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ciell Hi! The correct logo for using the image is this one: Logotipo Wikiconcurso Verbetes Fantáticos. Can you make this change please?--Danielly Figueredo (talk) 08:54, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Medhavigandhi, KCVelaga, are you aware that the photo competition Wiki Loves Monuments will have Central Notice running in the month of September as well? At least, according to the current information on Commons. Did you contact the organizers of WLM India already, per Step #4 of the page for requests? If yes, did you agree on how this could be solved? Please share the results with me, so I can design the banner and campaign for you. Ciell (talk) 20:02, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi @Ciell : I've reached out to Bodhisattwa (of Wiki Loves Monuments India) over the September banner; meanwhile, may I request you to consider placing the notice for August? It would be very helpful. Please let me know, and I will post an update here as soon as I hear from Bodhi. Medhavigandhi (talk) 10:52, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell:, I have responded to @Medhavigandhi: over e-mail. As organizers of WLM India, it would be really impossible for us to put our campaign on diet to accommodate another campaign in September because central banner is the most important way for us to engage participants for WLM which brings every national organizers some edge to engage more and more photographers and get their photographers to compete at the global level and we cannot afford to lose them. I guess, it would be better if Wiki Loves Museums gets it central notice during the rest of the month of August. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 17:34, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I realize the consequences for your competition @Bodhisattwa, which is why I've requested to reach out to you. In the calendar, it says that #WPWP is also running in India for Telugu until August 30st (this banner campaign is on a diet though), and the Wikimedia Sound logo contest has requested a campaign for Hindi (amongst other languages) from 13 September onward. Also, there will be a Board of Trustees election banner running globally from 26 August-6 September. I am not sure how to coordinate all of these, without setting diets for the campaigns (and for the moment ignoring that we prefer not having more than two banners targeting the same groups at one time). It would imho be great if you as organizers find a consensus in this. Ciell (talk) 17:48, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
In the meantime, I have created the campaign and banner: this is the banner preview. @Medhavigandhi: please let me know if the banner displays correct for you. Ciell (talk) 17:55, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell:, IMHO, it would only be helpful if Wiki Loves Museums gets a central banner during the rest of the August and Wiki Loves Monuments India gets the banner in September. Frankly, for now, considering the consequences, I can't reach to an agreement more than that as we both are targeting same group of projects and overlapping the target might divide our participants. However, if the Wiki Loves Monuments banners for all countries are put on a diet in its entirety, then WLM India can be a part of that for the same dates considering the similar consequences for all participating countries. Regarding the Sound Logo campaign targeting Hindi from 13 September, if you consider WLM India campaign dieting for this language community in those dates, I will have no problem, because that would not affect our main campaign targeting Wikimedia Commons. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 18:11, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Really grateful for the support @Ciell! Thank you, it displays perfectly. Excited for it! Medhavigandhi (talk) 18:18, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Medhavigandhi, thanks for checking: the banner should go live in a few minutes. Ciell (talk) 11:57, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell, looks great. Though it seems to display only for logged in users. Would it be possible to display for everyone else as well? Many thanks again! Medhavigandhi (talk) 13:37, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Medhavigandhi, we are indeed quite strict in targetting ip's. This is mostly preserved for donation banners, but I have turned it on for you.
Little warning: you might want to protect the landing page to prevent it from vandalism... Let me know if I can help you with the protection of the page on Commons. Ciell (talk) 16:46, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Ciell! I could not have imagined so! Yes please, I'd really appreciate your help on protecting the page. Thank you for everything, really! Medhavigandhi (talk) 17:17, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Done! And you're very welcome. :) Ciell (talk) 17:23, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Olá, pessoal @Ciell:, @DerHexer:, @Martin Urbanec:, @Romaine:, @Steinsplitter: e @Ата:! Alguém poderia nos dar um feedback sobre o banner? O período solicitado se aproxima, e se pudéssemos ter o banner nos projetos wiki certamente alcançaríamos nossos objetivos com o evento. Hello, folks @Ciell:, @DerHexer:, @Martin Urbanec:, @Romaine:, and @Steinsplitter:! Could you give us a hand with this? All the best Flávia Varella (talk) 23:24, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Flávia Varella, I can create a banner for you, but it will just be a standard banner. If you have specific wishes like the ones above, on style and fonts, I would advise you to look for someone (a Wikimedia volunteer?) that can design and test the specific banner for you. A CN admin (like me) can create the campaign to use that specific banner in. Ciell (talk) 08:49, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
(also ping @Danielly Figueredo, fyi) Ciell (talk) 08:50, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If you'd like me to do this, I need from you:
  • one image
  • a line of text 50-70 characters
  • you've already mentioned the landing page Ciell (talk) 08:52, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Martin Urbanec, please can you or other CN admins help check this? I understand it's not yet 10 days since posting this, but I would appreciate if there's a way to move this forward a bit. Thanks. – Ammarpad (talk) 12:24, 30 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Any passing CN admin should please help with this request. The campaign started yesterday. Thank you so much for your help. T CellsTalk 22:49, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Central Notice admin comments[edit]

Hi @Ammarpad, @T Cells , I have created a banner similar to the one we had last year, please review the preview, and feel free to start translations as well. I've reviewed the table on Commons, and choose to geotarget the participating countries (and so not 'global', as per some requests in the table), also taking into account the feedback we received from some communities last year. Same reason why the banner will not show every day, but one in ~5 days (but for the full period of the requested two months). Please let me know if the banner design is okay like this: I need you to check and confirm before I enable. Ciell (talk) 13:04, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Ciell, yes the preview looks OK. Also I have started adding the translations. Thanks. – Ammarpad (talk) 13:32, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for the quick confirmation Ammarpad! I'll turn it on today. Ciell (talk) 13:39, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you for your help, Ciell. T CellsTalk 13:54, 4 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Comment Hi @Ciell:, I realised that when you click on the banner on display, it doesn't link to the project page. Perhaps something is broken? T CellsTalk 18:54, 3 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @T Cells, that is strange. Where did you end up, can you tell me what happened? And what happend when you click on the link in this preview? Ciell (talk) 19:18, 3 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I apologize Ciell, I missed your ping. I ended up at "page does not exist". The preview worked pretty well when it was first turned on. I didn't know what went wrong, thereafter. That's strange, anyway. Thanks for your prompt action. T CellsTalk 18:59, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
