Featured and good topics in Wikipedia

This star symbolizes the featured topic candidates on Wikipedia.
GA icon symbolizing Good topic candidates on Wikipedia.
A featured topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles).

A good topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles) with a less stringent quality threshold than a featured topic.

This page is for the nomination of potential featured and good topics. See the featured and good topic criteria for criteria on both types of topic. If you would like to ask any questions about your topic and the featured/good topic process before submitting it, visit Wikipedia talk:Featured and good topic candidates.

Before nominating a topic, nominators may wish to receive feedback by listing it at Featured and good topic questions. Nominators must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter and sources to deal with objections during the FTC/GTC process. If you nominate something you have worked on, note it as a self-nomination. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the articles of the topic should consult regular editors of the articles prior to nomination. Nominators are expected to respond positively to constructive criticism and to make an effort to address objections promptly.

The featured and good topics director, GamerPro64, or his delegates Aza24 and Bryan Rutherford, determine the timing of the process for each nomination. For a nomination to be promoted to FT or GT status, consensus must be reached for a group to be promoted to featured or good topic status. If enough time passes without objections being resolved, nominations will be removed from the candidates topic and archived.

To contact the FTC director and delegates, please leave a message on the FTC talk page, or use the {{@FTC}} notification template elsewhere.

You may want to check previous archived nominations first:

Nomination procedure[edit]

To create a new nomination use the form below (e.g., Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Saffron/archive1) and click the "Create new nomination" button.

Once the nomination page is created, remember to transclude it in the appropriate section below, to leave nomination templates on the talk pages of the articles nominated for the topic. For detailed instructions on how to nominate topics or add articles to existing topics, see Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Nomination procedure.

Supporting and objecting[edit]

Please review all the articles of the nominated topic with the featured and good topic criteria in mind before deciding to support or oppose a nomination.

  • To edit nominations in order to comment on them, you must click the "edit" link to the right of the article nomination on which you wish to comment (not the overall page's "edit this page" link).
  • If you approve of a nomination, write '''Support''' followed by your reasons. Supports that clearly evaluate the criteria will be weighted more than those that do not.
  • If you oppose a nomination, write '''Oppose''' or '''Object''' followed by the reason for your objection. Each objection must provide a specific rationale that can be addressed. If nothing can be done in principle to fix the source of the objection, the objection may be ignored.
    • To withdraw an objection, strike it out (with <s>...</s>) rather than removing it.

For a topic to be promoted to featured or good topic status, consensus must be reached that it meets the criteria. The FGTC delegates are usually the ones to assess this consensus and close FGTC discussions. If there is a consensus to promote, the promote instructions are located here. If enough time passes without objections being resolved (at least one week), nominations will be removed from the candidates list and archived. Nominations will stay here for ten days if there is unanimous consent, or longer if warranted by debate.

For a couple of years now I've been working on creating lists of species in different mammal families, as well as parent lists of genera in mammal orders. (If you recall your biology class, the mammal class is divided into orders are divided into families are divided into genera are divided into species. Roughly.) Although this would seemingly work out nicely for topics, the uneven distribution of species makes it difficult, with an exception in this neat little 3-list group. This topic consists of the animals in the order lagomorpha, itself containing two families. So, we have the lists of the species in the family leporidae (rabbits and hares) and in the family ochotonidae (pikas), as well as a parent list "one level up" containing the genera in the overall lagomorpha order. All three of these went through FLC in 2022, so they should be good to go. Thanks for reviewing! --PresN 01:52, 13 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Comment: The scope seems like a bit of an Easter egg here, since the piped titles of the topic and the articles led me to expect I'd be reading Lagomorphs, Leporids, and Ochotonids. Maybe the title could be changed to something more like "Species in Lagomorpha" or "Lagomorph species"? -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 20:52, 18 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Guitar Songs[edit]

Guitar Songs is the second extended play (EP) by American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish. Released without prior warning to digital platforms on July 21, 2022, it consists of two ballads—"TV" and "The 30th". Both songs feature Eilish's soft vocals over a minimalist production consisting of an acoustic guitar. The two also have closely personal lyrics, a product of issues that Eilish had faced while writing them. Music critics praised Guitar Songs for its lyricism, and some considered this a testament to her songwriting talent.

  • Comment This is nitpick-y but I notice the redundant |language=en in some references. May I know how did you cite sources? Ippantekina (talk) 16:56, 18 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • @Ippantekina: the primary way I cite sources is by using the Visual Editor's citation maker - it's hard for me to format refs on Wikitext, so this was a more convenient way of doing it for me, blips aside... generating citations using that method automatically adds |language=en for English-language websites. I used to think they were useless, though another editor informed me that the parameter helps translating editors with recreating an article in another language - i.e. the reference will show up w/ something like "(in English)" in other language Wikipedias. I can put the parameter on all the other refs - or remove them altogether - for consistency, if you wish. ‍ ‍ Your Power 🐍 ‍ 💬 "What did I tell you?"

Taylor Swift (album)[edit]

Taylor Swift is the self-titled debut album by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Released in October 2006, the album consists of songs written or co-written by Swift and produced by Nathan Chapman. It spent more weeks on the US Billboard 200 than any other albums in the 2000s decade, and two of its singles—"Our Song" and "Should've Said No"—peaked atop the Hot Country Songs chart.

On "Our Song" AllMusic is a publisher, while on the aforementioned songs is work, be consistent should always be publisher. The same happens in "Teardrops on My Guitar", also "INSIDER" no caps and wikilink on the source. billboard.com. → Billboard, also some source duplication on the sources for the peaks and weeks spent. Same for the certifications. The same happens in "Picture to Burn" and "Tim McGraw". On the album article, AllMusic is once again publisher. World Professional Match-play Championship (snooker)[edit]

The World Professional Match-play Championship was a professional snooker tournament established in 1952 as an alternative to the professional World Snooker Championship by some of the professional players, following a dispute with the sport's governing body. Fred Davis won the first five editions of the tournament, but didn't participate in 1957, when John Pulman won. After this, the event was discontinued due to a decline in the popularity of snooker. A tournament with the same name was staged in 1976. The events from 1952 to 1957 are now regarded as editions of the world snooker championships, but the 1976 one is not.

Characters of Final Fantasy VIII[edit]

Final Fantasy VIII is a 1999 role-playing video game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) and released for the PlayStation and Windows-based personal computers. The eighth title in the Final Fantasy series, the game's story follows Squall Leonhart and a group of fellow mercenaries as they stop the sorceress Ultimecia from compressing time.

Late Registration[edit]

Late Registration is the second studio album by American rapper Kanye West, released on August 30, 2005. The album saw West venture into an elaborate and orchestral style, which brought him widespread critical success. West was also successfully commercial with the album, reaching number one on the US Billboard 200 and releasing multiple hit singles, including the smash hit "Gold Digger".

I have worked very hard on these articles for the past few years, which began to see early results when "Touch the Sky" became a GA in December 2019 and I scored my most recent one with "Heard 'Em Say" in June 2022! Late Registration achieved this status before I was even an editor on here, however I tried to bring it to FA earlier in 2022 with extensive work but to no avail, though the album is of significant importance to potentially become a FA. Update: I have now created an article for the Touch the Sky Tour and I have managed to expand it enough to become a GAN it has become a GA, which I have added to this nomination as the co-ordinators are fine with. --K. Peake 07:27, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Oppose Neutral: I hate to be a downer, but it's typical for an album topic to include any supporting tours and live albums associated with the studio album, which, in this case, would mean Late Orchestration and, at some point, an article about the Touch the Sky Tour, once someone writes one. No disrespect to your work on all these articles! -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 13:42, 13 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Bryanrutherford0 The Touch The Sky Tour was not notable enough to have its own article created and is mentioned in the main article anyway. Also, Late Orchestration was released as late as 2006 and features songs from The College Dropout too. Therefore, these are not needed for the GT. I have created an article for the tour now and it is in the process of expansion; if this passes at GAN, will you support the GT? --K. Peake 21:04, 30 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • That goes a long way toward addressing my concerns! I'm not sure I can support without the live album (it's even named after this studio album), but I can probably go neutral. Great job doing the work to solve the problem! -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 13:07, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'll think more about the live album in the future, which will lead to probable further discussion with you on this topic. K. Peake 13:00, 5 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support: Amazing work on all these articles, including "Gone" and "Hey Mama" where you provided sources that make said articles pass WP:NSongs. On "Hey Mama" after the sources you have this written there "The year of 2000 Kanye produced this song and enlisted Naki the Beatman producer 107.5 radio personality who brought Kanye Mysta Jay for vocals. Naki's vocal mate of r&b group Precyyse." → remove. On "Drive Slow" one archive error on source 33. Reference 16 shouldn't be Slant Magazine? In several articles, such as "Touch the Sky", you use "Vulture", always url-access=limited. DJ Booth is not a reliable source, according to Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources. On "Heard 'Em Say" can you replace sources 113 and 117? References 65, 66 and 68 are duplicated from the chart table. Source 77 is missing the author. I will add more later. On "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" amazon is referenced in one source but not on the other (22, 23 and 109), also not sure about the reliability of rocklist.net. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 13:40, 13 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • MarioSoulTruthFan I have done all of your points, apart from the replacement of sources 113 and 117 because the GA criteria says dead links are allowed, removal of refs 65 and 68 since these are using a refname cited from the table so are not duplicates while ref 66 is needed separately for the specific chart issue and ref 77 already cites the author so you must've missed something. --K. Peake 09:35, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The article I wanted to mention with those sources was "Touch the Sky", really sorry about it. On "Gold Digger" source 37 has both work and publisher, stick to one, and is Playlouder a reliable source?MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 10:05, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I made those fixes for the song article now apart from the ref 77 one, as there is no author for that source. Also, ref 37 does not have any publisher and Playlouder is reliable due to having partnered with Glastonbury. --K. Peake 07:49, 15 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    I meant 76, Idolator Staff. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 02:07, 19 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • MarioSoulTruthFan Staff are not supposed to cited under this parameter, as they do fit in the authors category. Also, I've made all of the other fixes apart from where noted. --K. Peake 06:22, 19 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Regarding the album sources it is flawless, congrats! I just want to know if "The Ringer", seems to be a good source for sports, is it good for music? I'm not sure, that's why I'm asking. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 12:09, 19 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • MarioSoulTruthFan There is an entire section on music just like sports, so that shows it'll be reliable for both. --K. Peake 15:10, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So I wanted to support this nomination. However, I can't as Bryan Rutherford made a good point. There is missing the tour article and I found some sources to create said article and with a few more researches you can get more info and make it a GA. This is what I found with a quick search. To be honest, fantastic job on everything else!
    Best wishes, MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 19:06, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hello, thanks for showing the sources that would provide notability for the tour. However, I will obviously have to create the article, then nominate it successfully for GA status. Because of this, should this candidacy remain open if I begin work or close since the article will be completely missing until the latest scenario? K. Peake 11:47, 24 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You welcome. I'm not sure, it's better ask the coordinators. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 12:18, 26 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • MarioSoulTruthFan I have now created an article for the tour using the sources you pointed towards and a few more, which is in the process of expansion and should be nominated by me soon enough; I have left a message for the coordinators that they will likely see shortly. --K. Peake 06:33, 30 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Good job so far! MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 14:54, 30 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • MarioSoulTruthFan I have now nominated the tour for GA; will you be willing to review it or merely come back to this topic if the review passes to comment or voice support? --K. Peake 11:19, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Hi! I won't be reviewing the article since I'm a bit tired from the GA backlog, hopefully, you understand. Yes, I will come back to this topic once you add the tour, just let me know. Nevertheless, I'm still on the fence regarding the Late Orchestration live album, as it shares songs from both albums. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 11:44, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Bryanrutherford0 and MarioSoulTruthFan, the Touch the Sky Tour has now been promoted to GA status and regarding Late Orchestration, not only does it feature music from both albums but the bear theme is frequent throughout West's 2004-07 work. Not only does this make it merely consist with his work rather than only LR, the live album was also released as late as 2006 so hardly accompanied the studio one. Support now or any other comments? --K. Peake 10:17, 3 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • As far as the timing goes, the live performance of which Late Orchestration is a recording was given three weeks after the public release of Late Registration, so, the timing rather tends to support my view that the live performance was indeed given in support of the newly released album. I'm neutral on the proposal without it. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 14:50, 4 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If Bryanrutherford is neutral about it. I won't stand on the way of this becoming a GT. Changing to support MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 20:36, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
