In 1970, Landrieu was elected mayor of New Orleans and served two terms. He was a fervent supporter of civil rights. During the Carter administration, Landrieu was named Secretary of Housing & Urban Development. He was a circuit court judge from 1992 until his retirement in 2000. Moon Landrieu died on Sept. 5, at the age of 92.
