@sohoplace will be a new West End theatre due to open in Autumn 2022 and will be operated by Nimax Theatres. It sits on the site of the previous London Astoria, as part of development around the Tottenham Court Road Elizabeth Line station development.[1] It will be the first new West End theatre in 50 years.[2]

History[edit]

@sohoplace was built as part of the Crossrail project to redevelop St Giles Circus. This included the demolition of the London Astoria in 2009. Following the opening of Crossrail as the Elizabeth Line in May 2022, it was announced that Nimax Theatres would open the new 602-seat theatre in Autumn 2022. It was designed by Simon Allford, current president of RIBA and was built by Derwent London.

Building[edit]

In addition to the 602-seat auditorium, the theatre includes a rehearsal room, actors' green room, bar, restaurant and a terrace. A large digital front-of-house screen will also appear on Charing Cross Road.[3]
