The Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) program produces employment and wage estimates annually for nearly 800 occupations. These estimates are available for the nation as a whole, for individual states, and for metropolitan and nonmetropolitan areas; national occupational estimates for specific industries are also available.

The May 2021 estimates were the first OEWS estimates based solely on survey data collected using the 2018 SOC. With the May 2021 estimates release, OEWS now publishes data for most 2018 SOC detailed occupations. To improve data quality, OEWS will continue to aggregate some occupations to the 2018 SOC broad occupation level or as OEWS-specific combinations of detailed occupations. May 2021 OEWS occupations with definitions [XLSX] are now available.
In the spring of 2021, the Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) program began using the name Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) to better reflect the range of data available from the program. Data released on or after March 31, 2021 reflect the new program name. Data collection materials, including forms, emails, and letters, were updated for employers starting with the May 2021 survey panel. Webpages, publications, and other materials associated with previous data releases will retain the Occupational Employment Statistics name.
Healthcare practitioners and technical occupations had employment of 8.8 million in May 2021,
representing 6.2 percent of national employment. Registered nurses (3.0 million) was the largest
healthcare practitioners and technical occupation.

Employment maps show employment levels for the occupation in each state or area. Wage maps show mean wages for the occupation in each area. Location quotients are a measure of the relative importance of an occupation in an area, and maps show the share of an occupation's employment in an area relative to the U.S. average. Get started by clicking on the chart to the right. From the drop down menus, select an occupational group and occupation, and then select the indicator to map.
The United States is a country of great opportunities. When we think of opportunities, large metropolitan areas like Los Angeles, New York, or Chicago naturally come to mind.
