Importing speakers and organisers do cause activity feed notification to be sent to WordPress.org profiles. In some cases, the majority of the imported contents are valid but for example, few speakers might not be speaking at the new event. Right now import causes wp.org activity feed notification, which leads to false activity on some profiles.
We probably should not import the WordPress.org usernames to avoid this, as adding the usernames back is easier than copying all the contents manually.
Another solution could be disabling the activity feed notifications during the import, but that might lead to situations where imported, valid speakers or organisers wouldn't receive the feed item at all if their post isn't modified manually later on.
Another idea given in the above slack thread is to provide the option to import as draft, which could be done potentially as a separate plugin or as part of the WordPress importer plugin.
