Va. Army National Guard expands $20k sign-on bonus

Virginia Army National Guard is now offering $20,000 sign-on bonuses for those who enlist into an expanded number of military occupational specialties. Previously, just one MOS qualified for the top-tier $20,000 bonus, while two additional jobs offered smaller bonus amounts. Now, Soldiers who enlist into one of seven career fields may be eligible for the $20,000 bonus.

The VNG traces the history and tradition of Citizen-Soldier service to the founding of Jamestown in 1607, and there has been a military presence defending Virginia ever since.

Aviation Soldiers assigned to Kosovo Force’s Regional Command-East have been working hand in hand since arriving in the region to enhance their aerial firefighting capabilities.

The 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute Warrant Officer Candidate School is hosting a Pre-Warrant Officer Candidate Course Sept. 9-11, 2022, at Fort Pickett, Virginia.  Completion of Pre-WOC is a pre-requisite for any VaARNG Soldier to attend Warrant Officer Candidate School.

Virginia National Guard Soldiers recently completed a counter-improvised explosive devices exchange and a medical infantry tactics exchange with soldiers and representatives from the Republic of Tajikistan in June and July 2022. 

Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Cedar Bluff-based 1033rd Engineer Company, 276th Engineer Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group conduct an obstacle breaching exercise as part of the eXportable Combat Training Capability rotation July 23, 2022, at Fort Drum, New York. More than 2,500 Soldiers are participating in the training event, which enables brigade combat teams to achieve the trained platoon readiness necessary to deploy, fight and win.

Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the 3647th Maintenance Company and the 1033rd Engineer Company successfully completed their support of a New Jersey National Guard brigade’s XCTC rotation July 30, 2022, at Fort Drum, New York. 

U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers conquer the culminating training event on the way to earning the 11B Infantryman military occupational speciality July 27, 2022, at Fort Picket, Virginia. The Soldiers repeatedly worked their way through an urban training site using dry fire before donning protective gear and utilizing simulation rounds against opposing forces as they secured the site. The exercise was part of the three-week 11B Infantry Transition Course, taught by cadre assigned to the 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute. The course brought together more than 20 Soldiers from across the nation to learn basic infantry skills at the junior Soldier and noncommissioned officer level. 183rd RTI trains 20 new infantrymen

U.S. Army National Soldiers from across the nation spent three weeks training as infantryman during an 11B Infantry Transition Course, taught by cadre assigned to the 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute. The course, held July 9-23, 2022, at Fort Pickett, Virginia, started with 29 students and graduated with 20.

Naming Commission announces decision to retain 29th Infantry Division patch

The Naming Commission announced Aug. 1, 2022, they will recommend to retain the 29th Infantry Division patch. According to a new release from the Naming Commission, in a July letter to leading members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees, retired Navy Adm. Michelle J. Howard, Naming Commission chair, gave notice of the commission’s intent to recommend the Army leave the 29th Infantry Division symbol unchanged, but modify the heraldry description to remove language that implies Confederate service and reconciliation of the North and South.

The Virginia National Guard Officer Candidate School is now accepting applications for the Winter Accelerated Program schedule for January through March 2023 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. The program is hosted by 3rd Battalion, 183rd Regional Training Institute.

VNG Soldier takes gold at  World Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship

Pvt. Braylon Manuel won gold at the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s World Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship two years in a row, earning the top spot in both 2021 and 2022. Manuel will be assigned to the Virginia National Guard's 2nd Squadron, 183rd Cavalry Regiment, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team following his initial entry training.
