Did your homework and decided that loan consolidation is for you? Make sure to consolidate your loans before the Oct. 31, 2022 deadline for the limited Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) waiver. go.usa.gov/xSsKs
Steps to Consolidate Your Federal Student Loans

If you’ve decided consolidation is right for you, log in at studentaid.gov to complete your application.

While applying, you can select the repayment plan and loan servicer for your consolidation loan.

In about six weeks, your application will be processed. Reach out to your loan servicer to check on the status of your application.

About two weeks before your new consolidation loan is disbursed, you will receive a Loan Summary Statement with the total amount of your new consolidation loan, new weighted average interest rate, repayment schedule, and repayment term.

Stay alert to avoid scams!

Never pay for help and communicate only with your student loan servicer.

Starting college or career school this fall? If you’ve accepted federal student loans, now’s a great time to complete your required entrance counseling. Check with your school’s financial aid office to see its specific requirements. go.usa.gov/xSZqA
DID YOU KNOW?

Entrance counseling ensures you understand the terms and conditions of your loan and your rights and responsibilities. You'll learn what a loan is, how interest works, your options for repayment, and how to avoid delinquency and default. When you're finished, a record of your completion will be sent to the schools you selected, and you can then receive your loan money.
