    AV Services of VA

"AV Services of VA did a thorough and professional job with outstanding results. The owner, Victor, was very detailed, professional, knowledgeable, and he gave me the most reasonable quote. I have an older home that was built in the late 70's so it was more of a challenge running the wires through the walls and such. They spent almost the entire work day plugging away at the install making sure everything was as perfect as possible. They even made labels to go around the wires which comes in handy when unhooking your speakers from your amplifier. I provided them with the surround speakers, speaker mounts, and TV wall mount that I bought online beforehand and they didn't have any issues getting things connected or mounted. These guys are pros who are reasonably priced, trustworthy, and are easy to work with. I wish I could have posted a picture with this review to show off how awesome looking my home theater install turned out (it sounds great too - although half of that depends upon the equipment you buy). I would highly recommend AV Services of VA for your home theater install."

4.5 star review from Nathaniel T. in Glen Allen, VA

Questions to Ask a Repairman

Before you hand your computer (and your entire electronic life) over to a computer repair expert, there are a few questions you need to ask.

  • What are your qualifications and experience? You need to know that the repair person is capable of fixing your issue. You can take a look at locally rated and reviewed computer repair services in your area to find one you can trust.
  • Can you save my files? Even if you never lost access to your photos and documents, the repair person should still make a backup, just in case something goes wrong during the repair process.
  • How much will it cost? It's important to get an estimate of your final cost up front. You don't want to be surprised with any hidden fees. You should also ask about a minimum charge, because some computer issues might only take a few minutes to fix.
  • When will it be done? You've got to get back to work, so ask for a timeline and hold your repair person to it.

Typical Computer Repairs

  • Data Recovery: A virus or an accidental click can wipe out everything you've been saving. A computer repair expert might be able to get it back.
  • Virus Removal: There are annoying viruses, like those that cause popups, and downright dangerous viruses, like those that mine your personal information. Either way, you've got to remove it from your computer.
  • "My computer runs too slow!" This is a common complaint. A repair service can help you remove the programs that are slowing you down and get you running up to speed again.
  • Broken Keyboard: Sometimes a little debris gets caught under the keys, sometimes the keys are worn out, and sometimes you really need a professional to figure out why that "s" won't work.
  • Booting (Too Often or Not at All): If you've ever had your computer restart itself for no reason, or if it won't boot up after you start it, you'll want to call an expert.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to fix my computer?

Homeowners pay an average of $145 to repair a computer network.

If you have technical issues with your computer or laptop, separate from the network, you'll need to check on price with a local computer repair pro. They'll typically charge per hour to fix laptop or computer problems, plus the cost of parts.

What does a computer repair service fix?

A computer repair professional can help if you're having issues that include, but are not limited to:

  • Virus removal.
  • Slow systems.
  • Lost data, photos or documents.
  • Mouse or keyboard problems.
  • Sudden restart or monitor issues.

How long does it take to fix my computer?

The length of time it takes to fix your computer depends entirely on what's wrong with it. It may be something very simple that takes 30 seconds. It may be more complex than a computer repair professional can handle in-house. He or she may have to ship it to technicians outside of their service area to assist with the problem, which can take one week or more.

How do I get a fair price on computer repair?

Discuss the issues with your computer with a computer repair pro before any work begins. Research how much other people have paid for a similar service. Ask for an itemized bill to understand the price of labor and parts.

Replace your computer if the cost of repairs isn't justifiable.
