And it's funny you mention Netroots - I went - and remember big hopes social media could bypass or emulate Tory tabloids in getting a message out. By 2016 or 17 realised had the opposite effect and just led to a ghettoisation of increasingly conflicting and unrepresentative views

"Of course it would have happened under Blair, because Blair took the line now taken by Keir Starmer that a government in waiting shouldn’t take sides in industrial disputes." (in case you can't read this excellent column.)

We’ve reached a new and critical watershed now the left are using Blair against Starmer - just as they used Wilson against Blair. It’s like the actual past doesn’t matter.

Sam Tarry said of his sacking: “This wouldn’t have happened under Tony Blair.” "He was only 13 when Clare Short, shadow transport sec, walked out of a TV interview rather than answer whether she supported the tube strike in 1996" - @JohnRentoul 😂 independent.co.uk/independentpre

Something I've wanted to write for a while, and feel increasingly convinced by. The Labour party should get off Twitter. Delete it. Stop its MPs from spending too much time on here, especially if it wants to get elected into government independent.co.uk/voices/labour-

Keir Starmer should insist anyone joining the shadow cabinet surrenders their Twitter password

Given that, as today, whenever there’s an online Labour factional spat it’s all gleefully shared by the right wing Twitter and tabloid outlets, I think I agree with this…

Glad you wrote this. I'm probably not a typical voter but increasingly I'm muting Labour MPs on Twitter because I don't want them to put me off voting Labour. I'd rather make up my own mind on the merits rather than (over) react against their tweets.

"Twitter murders nuance. It’s great for MPs who want to pump out slogans and clichés all day, but not for people who know that life is a bit more complicated."

Sunny is right, of course. The 2020 Biden campaign famously ordered all its staffers to delete Twitter, and it worked out for them.

At risk of making far too earnest an assessment of this obviously cynical bullshit: Rishi’s pitch to differentiate him from Truss is basically “let’s tell the truth, hard choices, long termism, difficult decisions need to be made”. And now he’s coming out with… this.

Green belt land is extremely precious in the UK. We’ve seen too many examples of local councils circumventing the views of residents by taking land out of the green belt for development, but I will put a stop to it. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/ Sign up: Ready4Rishi.com

Rishi Sunak is less hated than Liz Truss among the voters the party needs. But I just don't see it happening; Tories will vote with their heart not head

The UK government could be doing this to lower electricity bills 👇🏼👇🏼

Following Orban's speech in which he said "we do not want to become peoples of mixed race" & appeared to joke about gas chambers, his adviser of 20yrs quit, calling his comments "pure Nazi text worthy of Goebbels." Orban is set to speak at CPAC next month.

If we are serious about growth, I’d like to see bold ideas on childcare — anything from a “national childcare service” (freeing up huge numbers for work) to making childcare expenses tax deductible (when it is so clearly a business expense for many). Existing UK help is measly.

This is incredible. Labour MP Sam Tarry (who is facing deselection) appoints himself “shadow Secretary of State for transport” live on Sky News, despite not being his job, then makes up a wage rise policy for the Labour Party while in his imaginary role.

Meanwhile, Putin has just restricted gas supplies into Europe even further (as predicted), so the price of heating/cooking will go even higher.

We will face multiple crises as we head into winter: the cost of living, energy prices specifically, NHS waiting lists + A&E times, against a backdrop of medium to long-term crises - geopolitical instability + climate change. It doesn’t feel like our politics recognises this yet.

I believe in free speech so I think the right to be offensive should be protected. Conservatives agree, except when they are being offended. Same for liberals/lefties. So we end up with situations being weaponised to demand censorship, and everyone loses.

Either we agree arts and media should have free speech to be offensive (my position) Or it should be inoffensive to everyone. Which do we want?

This was funded by @artichoketrust which is funded by Arts Council England, so by taxpayers. Speaking as someone who recently supported a talented black woman to become PM... > I'm sick of paying tax for this divisive, racist crap twitter.com/DouglasKMurray…
