Brugse Zot Bottling Note

Ah, Brugse Zot, the town beer of Bruges from the Brouwerij De Halve Maan (meaning 'half moon') made with four different malts and two varieties of hop. The brewery is the only remaining brewery in the historic city centre.

The beer takes its tongue-in-cheek name from when the townsfolk asked Maximilian, their 15th century Austrian ruler, if they could have a new mental hospital. Having already had a few run ins with the people of Bruges, including banning all organised festivities and fairs after being held prisoner there for four months, the emperor suggested simply closing the city gates as Bruges was a madhouse anyway! This incident gave birth to the 'Brugse Zotten' or Bruges fools.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Gentle spice, apple, lemon, candied orange peel, stone fruit, a little honey and grassy hops. The ultimate Belgian session ale. That.
