- D S Bahr Construction IncThe owner Dave met with my husband and me to give us an estimate on repairing our existing screened in porch and replacing our exterior deck. He provided us with a detailed estimate and a rough drawing of the work that would be done. Compared to the other 2 estimates we received, Dave's estimate was in the middle, but included a more thorough plan on how to fix our existing porch--he gave us the impression that they would do the job right and not cut corners. He also bid out the option for composite decking vs cedar per our request. By the time we got around to making a decision to go forward with the job, the company was booked pretty far out (we booked at the beginning of July and were told they were about 12 weeks out). We were not in a hurry and decided to get on their schedule. Throughout the long wait, Dave touched base with us twice to let us know where they were at as far as their timeline and let us know that they had not forgotten about us. About mid-October it was clear that they would not be able to complete our project before the winter. Dave was very upfront with us regarding his timeline and the jobs booked before us, so the delay was not a surprise and was something we were willing to accomodate (we took it as a good sign that they were so in demand!) We were contacted late October with the plan to pour footings for our deck before the ground froze, and then they would come back during the winter to do the actual teardown and build. I was slightly nervous about this plan as I was concerned that they would start the job and then not come back to complete it. I had no reason to worry, as Dave and his crew were true to their word and did everything as planned. Footings were poured at the end of November, and teardown/build happened at the end of January. The job was completed in 1 week. The construction crew arrived promptly and worked quickly. 2 crew members even came and worked half day on Saturday to get the decking completed. There were some issues that were discovered after demolition (rotted posts needed replacing and the joists on the existing porch needed reinforcing) that increased the cost of the original bid, however they only charged us for the cost of materials/labor and did not upcharge us for the additional work. The jobsite was cleaned up nicely when they were finished. The project manager Myles was excellent at communicating the plan and their progress as the job moved along. He reached out to the inspector to make sure the job was inspected promptly as I had requested, and came back to fix a very minor detail within the week. In the end, the porch and deck are safe, beautiful, and the workmanship solid. We are very happy with the work done by this company and will likely contact them again for future work on our home

- Northrup Remodeling, Roofing & ExteriorsOver the years, we've used Northrup Roofing & Remodeling for a number of small projects and have always been satisfied by the quality of the work. After receiving a number of bids, we chose Northrup for, what we thought, would be a relatively modest project to fix water damage to our front porch and deck. As it turned out, the entire structure had rotted out as a result of improper construction in the original installation (which was not done by Northrup). As a result, the entire structure needed to be demolished and completely replaced. Mark White and his team, which included an architect, structural engineer, and numerous sub-contractors, were all responsive to all of our concerns. They were always respectful of budgetary constraints and delivered a suburb project in a timely fashion
- Northrup Remodeling, Roofing & ExteriorsWe hired Northrup on a friends recommendation. We have a 2 story house built in the late 60s and we wanted to upgrade and replace the doors and windows in our house. Many of the windows had been replaced by the previous owner. The wood work (baseboards etc) had also been updated and replaced in many places. Northrup needed to match the existing door and window style and colors. No easy task finding the exact correct doors (solid wood 4 panel), windows (Marvin), and getting the color right. We also had them install double glass french doors to connect our 3 season room to the living room. It took a few trips for the painter to get a stain color to our liking. (Different types of wood react differently to the stain) The doors are maple, the trim is pine etc... They stained off site so we needed the color to perfect. But after that everything happened in two days - 6 doors, 4 windows, trim and moulding + haul away. Friendly and honest service, no drama, will use them again. They even offered to paint the scuff marks on the wall near our hall closet door. (I think it happened during the install so we took them up on that - no charge.

"Tomco Company recently transformed our 1960 Rambler into a modern, elegant, yet comfortable home. They relocated a lower level bathroom, installed a ceramic tile shower, walk in closet and created a suite for our daughter who returned home in order to attend grad school. Our upper level "pink" bathroom has been completely changed into a beautiful, spa-like space, and the kitchen / dining room / living room is now open, completely renovated and perfect for entertaining. We absolutely love it, and will be very happy here for years to come. We appreciated Tom's practical, honest and common sense approach. The quality of work by his staff was excellent - one example: The back splash tile we selected for the buffet came in, but it was crooked on the backing. "I've waited for a couple of weeks to post this review just to verify that everything was working (and if not, how Spartan would follow-up). There have been no issues so here goes: I reached out to Spartan through Angie's list in mid December - they got back to me the next day and we scheduled an appointment for an estimate. I eventually decided to go with Spartan because I wanted to do business with a smaller local company and their estimate was in-line with what else I had received (also - most of their reviews were quite positive). Work began early January. I dealt with Mike for the majority of the planning phase - I very much appreciate his willingness to work around my schedule and meet with me in the earlier part of the mornings. Chad then was my point of contact for the actual remodeling phase, and I believe also did much of the work (I moved out of the house while the work was being done so I'm not sure who else worked on it). Honestly, the work was done as a repair (the tile in my shower was failing and the floor needed work due to a prior leak) more than something that was done as a voluntary upgrade, so when asked for design choices I pretty much said that I didn't care and let Chad figure that out. I'm kind of glad that I did because the new bathroom looks fantastic (Onyx shower panels/vanity top and a gray colored motif). The overall experience was a positive one - the workmanship appears very solid and although I had moved out for the duration of the remodel, I was at the house for a few hours every single day and could see the progress being made. If forced to mention any drawbacks from the service I can only really think of one - clean up. Overall, the workers did a fantastic job cleaning up...my home was no doubt cleaner than when they had arrived. However - there some leftover debris from the floor repair that had found its way behind the washing machine in my basement. I will mention that the rest of the area where debris had fallen was cleaned well, they just missed that one area. This is nothing that a few minutes with a shop-vac wasn't able to remedy, but I figured I'd mention it so that this review wasn't just unbridled praise. I would hire Spartan again to do more work on my home.

"Spoke at length on the phone, out to review our situation, then again and brought window sample, explained everything in detail-very thorough! Measured the windows and reviewed manufacturer guidelines/products to be sure we could get the items needed. Very impressed with the windows he installs! Out of 8 contractors we have met with, he was the only one that went into the details. We have visited dealers to look at other windows and nothing compares to the service we received. He has also been patient while we secure financing for all the windows, get insurance company out here, work with ADT on new security system, all the items that would required to reinstall with replacement windows. Very organized - We will be installing the windows and I will update this review after install.

"I inherited multiple issues after moving into my house two years ago. Two large concrete sections of my driveway (adjacent to the garage) had sunk about an inch. This was causing issues with snowplowing in the winter and created a nice lip between the concrete and my garage floor, which was now cracking. The other major issue was I had a basement underneath my garage and was getting water leakage from that same area. Scott assessed the problem correctly, was able to replace the concrete sections, which fixed everything in my driveway and garage AND stopped the water leakage below! He did an amazing job and it's clear his 30 years of experience played a role in resolving these issues.
