The Department of Applied Economics and Economic Policy is attached to the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences, created by Law 29/1979, that marked the beginning of the University of Alicante. The subjects taught in different study plans deal with concepts such as instrumental policies, analysis of public policies (regional, national and international), sectoral policies without neglecting the environment; It also explains the important concepts of economics for students enrolled in other colleges where it is convenient to have these notions.
On June 8, the closing ceremony of the academic year 2021/22 will be held in the Paraninfo. An act that will have its preliminaries in the area of the Rectorate building but that will begin at 12 in the morning in the emblematic hall of the Faculty of Law.
The ceremony that will include the delivery of an Honorary Doctorate in the figure of Mr. Erik Maskin as well as the investiture of new Doctors and the Rector's speech as the final part of the act.

Last Friday, the Dean election process concluded, a position held by Raúl Ruiz Callado since 2018. This circumstance had not been repeated since 2010, when Juan Llopis Taverner was elected with 89% of the votes, although his tenure as rector lasted until 2012. Along with both, the third dean who repeated was Antonio Escudero Gutiérrez (1994-2002).
The process that began on January 31 has been carried out without problems since only the dean has been the only candidate. The election was held last Monday and Tuesday electronically. Of the 326 authorized voters, 233 voted; Except for two invalid votes and 13 implicitly blank, the rest (218) voted for the candidate.
Although the vice-deans who will accompany him have not been made official, the truth is that the candidacy kept the work team practically intact with few changes in the positions. Therefore, the presence of María Carmen Tolosa Bailén (Student Coordinator) and Antonio Fuster Olivares (International Relations Coordinator), both professors of this Department, is maintained in the dean's team during the next mandate that will last until 2026.
Finally, there is the election of the members of the Faculty Board, which will begin on Thursday 10 with the presentation of candidacies.
The first quarter of this academic year 2021/2022 ends tomorrow. Although the last days have been of evaluation controls -for certain subjects- the C2 call for exams will begin on Tuesday, January 11 and will end seventeen days later.
On the other hand, yesterday the favorable report of the 2022 Budget Project was approved at the call of the Social Council, which represents an increase of 10.1% compared to last year.
