Earn Your Online Certificate in American History

Since 1776, when forged from a bloody revolution, few countries have captured the imagination quite like the sweeping story of the United States of America and its profound history that formed its standing as a superpower in the world today. Our University offers scholars, historians, educators, working professionals, and enthusiasts the opportunity to pursue a Graduate Certificate in American History entirely online. This flagship degree explores the historical context of British and Colonial American politics and constitutional philosophies. The curriculum goes beyond just facts and dates by investigating the cultural norms, socioeconomics, religious paradigms, and the foreign and domestic political upheaval that incited the American Revolution.

Students learn about the political and economic disunion that catalyzed the South’s secession from the Union and the resulting Civil War. They also explore the aftermath and changes in society such as industrialization, immigration, urbanization, and isolation. From World War I to the Great Depression and World War II, students research and discuss the global and domestic factors that set the stage for cultural, social, and political transformation and the military and economic expansion of modern day Americana. In addition, the program closely emphasizes judicial interpretation of the U.S. Constitution as well as the history of popular culture.

At our University, students interact with scholar-practitioners. Many of the instructors are respected historians and published experts in specific eras of American History including the Civil War. Each instructor shares a deep passion for continuing to research and unfold the rich, complex, and fascinating chronicles of American History.
