Traumatic brain injuries are a signature injury of modern warfare. In some cases, a TBI may mean a service member is not ready to deploy or train. In March, we will communicate to health care providers to build awareness of new TBI diagnosis and treatment protocols, and target young service members to make sure they understand the risks, signs, and impacts of TBI, both on and off the battlefield.

The Department of Defense is committed to protecting the health and well-being of our people to maximize our ability to defend the Nation. Brain health is critical to overall mission readiness. Even a mild TBI can have long-lasting effects that impact deployability if not diagnosed and treated.

Service members should learn the causes and symptoms of TBI. Knowing when to seek care contributes to overall brain health, and your ability to maintain readiness for deployments.
