I took BART today Downtown and back and it was great! Powell Street is being fixed up, the new escalators are beautiful and I got the new trains. Both times I waited a minute or two. It feels like a real modern service. @SFBART @JaniceForBART

BART has spoken to Thu back in 2020 for a series of women track workers and their stories.
Quote Tweet
Every day and night, hundreds of workers do strenuous physical labor to rebuild BART's system, largely hidden from public view. A small but growing number of these workers are women. During a graveyard shift in February, before Shelter in Place, we documented their story.

Clipper with Google Pay works on most Android phones. The phone must be running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher, and it must have an NFC chip (check in settings). To check the version of your phone go to Settings > About Phone > Android Version to check your device’s version.

We have a very limited supply of plastic cards due to supply chain issues and because so many people got a new card for the Warriors parade and pride. For Apple products you need iPhone 8 or later, Apple Watch Series 3 or later. No app needed.

Do you have friends coming to visit the Bay Area? Please ask them to add Clipper to their phones instead of getting a plastic card. Using Clipper with Apple Pay and Google Pay is great for visitors because there is currently no new card fee ($3 savings).

It was a great parade. We love Alameda. Hopefully Alameda will soon have transit supportive land use policies so we could potentially put a BART station there to serve a second transbay tube. #Link21

I’m a fan of ambassadors. Excited to see how this goes for Los Angeles! LA Metro’s ‘Transit Ambassadors’ offer alternative to armed officers. Ambassadors are patterned after a BART program that adds an extra layer to public safety programs.

Escalators are an important piece of infrastructure. When they go out of service it makes our stations less accessible. We just replaced another 50 year old unit at Montgomery. It will be more reliable and energy efficient. All 40 escalators downtown are being replaced.

We are overjoyed to announce the arrival of a brand new escalator at Montgomery St. Station. When your escalators are 50 years old and cause frequent disruption to everyone, it’s important to take the time to celebrate a piece of modern infrastructure.

The state literally just said “no” to giving us the funding to make it happen for a few months. Our funding model relies on fares (and currently federal emergency funds that will run out). Free and low cost transit needs ongoing, reliable funding sources.

Replacing an escalator requires us to barricade it for many months. We partnered some local graphic design students through the *TBD Studio Program with to design wraps for the enclosures. We will soon be unveiling them. We can’t wait to share that story.
