Childbirth and Breastfeeding Support Demonstration

Starting Jan. 1, 2022, qualifying TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select enrollees can enroll in the TRICARE Childbirth and Breastfeeding Support Demonstration (CBSD). The CBSD covers:

  • Certified non-medical labor doulas
  • Lactation consultants
  • Lactation counselors

You aren’t eligible for the CBSD if you use TRICARE For Life, US Family Health Plan, or the Continued Health Care Benefit Program. The CBSD will run from Jan. 1, 2022 to Dec. 31, 2026. The CBSD will expand overseas on Jan. 1, 2025.

TRICARE Pharmacy Network Update Starting Dec. 15, 2021, CVS Pharmacy will be joining the TRICARE pharmacy network. At the same time, Walmart, Sam’s Clubs, and some community pharmacies will leave the network.

TRICARE Overseas Program (TOP) Updates
The new TRICARE Overseas contract went live Sept. 1, 2021. It includes many new beneficiary-centric services.

The Near Patient Program (NPP) will give you access to in-country medical and non-medical professionals. They will be able to help you navigate the overseas health care system.

FDA Recall of Certain Sleep and Respiratory Devices

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has directed Philips Respironics to recall certain sleep and respiratory devices. This includes certain Constant Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices, Bi-Level Airway Pressure (BiPAP) devices, and some ventilators.

The Military Health System (MHS) has notified all TRICARE-authorized durable medical equipment (DME) providers of the recall. If you think your device may be included in this recall:

  • Check the Philips Respironics patient portal or call 1-877-907-7508 to see if your device is on the recall list.
  • Make sure you have registered your device in the patient portal.
  • Talk with your provider about whether you should stop using your device.

TRICARE Reserve Select Reinstatement Request Extension  Have you lost your TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS) coverage for failure to pay? You'll now have five months from your last paid-through date to request reinstatement. If your TRS coverage is reinstated, you’re still responsible for paying all past due premiums. You’ll also have to pay your current premiums, including fees. This is a temporary change during the national health emergency.
Starting Jan. 14, 2022, TRICARE will cover paxlovid and molnupiravir to treat mild-to-moderate COVID-19. To get these oral antivirals, you must have an order from a TRICARE-authorized providerAn authorized provider is any individual, institution/organization, or supplier that is licensed by a state, accredited by national organization, or meets other standards of the medical community, and is certified to provide benefits under TRICARE. There are two types of TRICARE-authorized providers: Network and Non-Network. DS. The CDC highly encourages patients get a COVID-19 test early after known or suspected exposure or as soon as symptoms are present. This is because these antivirals work best during the early stages of COVID-19 infection.
