Hampshire Trading Standards Service is looking to recruit motivated and enthusiastic officers to join our Product Safety Team.

In this role you will be directly protecting the public in Hampshire and across the U.K. by making sure goods, like toys and electrical items, coming into the country are safe, by making sure goods on sale in Hampshire are safe and by making sure children do not have access to age restricted goods like alcohol and tobacco.

You’ll have an enquiring mind, be methodical and use problem solving skills to identify practical solutions, based on sound judgement and reasoning.  You will conduct inspections of businesses and provide advice to help them comply with the law.   Ultimately, where significant criminal offences are identified, you may take formal enforcement action.

With a relevant qualification or equivalent experience in criminal investigations or other law enforcement activity, you will be ready to take on a new challenge. You will need to be organised, flexible, adaptable and confident to take responsibility for decision making.  Above all, you will be able to deal sympathetically and proportionately with members of the public, agents, importers and businesses, while being confident in your ability to handle difficult and challenging situations.

Please note we have 1 x temporary 12 month contract to cover Maternity Leave; and1 x temporary 12 month fixed term contract. There is a possibility of extension at end of initial contract period, subject to grant funding.
