Outpost Security Suite Pro 9.0 combines a so-so antivirus and a not-so-hot firewall. That's it, other than a few experts-only tools. You'll do better choosing one of our Editors' Choice suites.
Our Editors' Choice antivirus products cost more than Outpost Antivirus Pro 9.0, but they offer much better protection. And if price is a worry, our Editors' Choice for free antivirus will also do a better job.
With impressive firewall protection built into Windows itself, a modern personal firewall really needs to shine. Outpost Firewall Pro 9.0 doesn't; several free firewalls outperform it in various ways.
Add firewall protection to an antivirus and you've got the bare bones of a security suite. That's exactly what you get with Outpost Security Suite Pro 8. No spam filtering, no parental control, no effective phishing protection, just a few expert-level tools as a bonus. You'll do better to pay a little more and get more protection.
As a standalone firewall, Outpost Firewall Pro 8 is a blast from the past. Its program control, inactive by default, inundates the user with popups if enabled. Proactive protection features block both good and bad programs. There's really no reason to buy this when you can get better firewall protection for free.
In our testing, Outpost Antivirus Pro 8 proved very effective at blocking malware attacks, but quite a bit less at cleaning out existing malware infestations. In addition, it asks you, the user, to make many of its security decisions. That may be fine if you're a security expert, but the average user should probably choose an antivirus that's more self-sufficient.
