My hunt on upgraded Egyptian T-tanks: Egypt was for a very long time user of T-54/55/62 tanks but since the acquisiton of Abramses, numbers of T-tanks have lowered to minimum. Couple of last months I've been hunting on pictures of upgraded T-tanks still in service after 2010.

South Sudanese T-72AVs.
#Ukraine has also trained South Sudanese tankers. They were used in the same war in which#Sudan has used their own T-72AVs.pic.twitter.com/yOP8gw3uyuNäytä tämä ketjuKiitos. Käytämme tätä aikajanasi parantamiseen. KumoaKumoa -
Sudanese T-72AV that came from Ukraine (along with T-72Bs).

Destroyed Ukrainian T-72AV
#UkraineWar I forgot Ukrainian army has received a few modernised/refurbrished AVs in 2021. Low number in service, probably around 10? (visual evidence of 2 destroyed so far). Ukraine sold most of it's T-72s to countries like Sudan and South Sudanpic.twitter.com/UABX67SQi9Näytä tämä ketjuKiitos. Käytämme tätä aikajanasi parantamiseen. KumoaKumoa -
Eritrean Iveco Eurotrakker 260E37, most likely ex-Danish military. What leads me to this conclusion is the basket on top of cabin, feature typical of Danish military Eurotrakker and feature not typical of any serial production pieces. There is a lot of them for sale onlinepic.twitter.com/aIOuFJRRMf

The quality is awful but it seems that Angola is operating unknown number of ERA equipped T-55s. Quite possibly T-55AMV? Angola was previously known only for operating T-55AM2s they bought from Slovakia. Screenshots come from 2019 exercisepic.twitter.com/ZO7oDxLvrO

Oops, I forgot to post the T-55E MkII from 2018 video. So here it is, the single piece in front of 2 BTR-50s and a huge row of T-62Es in the background (not visible).pic.twitter.com/6NNiSHsCjm

I haven't found any information how many were built or were in service by each year. Wikipedia there were around 300 T-55 tanks in service as of 2021 but it's not very reliable source and nor precise. That number could count all sorts of versions. More pics and info welcomed

They could also be seen without antennas, boxes and smoke launchers (maybe to reduce maintanance?) with just cavities where such equipment should be attached. Before 2011 they often wore 3 colour camouflage as demonstrated here: Pics from Milinme blog and various other pagespic.twitter.com/8JPtRXsvpD

Local call them "Ramses" but do not mistaken them for Ramses II (completly different tank). They borrow many features from previous T-tank E upgrades. Since 2010 they mostly appear in light sand colours, often with unit insignias and Arabic numbers painted on them.

I think they were put into storage to be replaced by new tank but who knows, they still might be around. What is known is they mostly operated around Southern District units, possibly mixed with T-62Es and BTR-50s. Interestingly some were also spotted in Nasr City in 2011.pic.twitter.com/UWWTdGZmkU

Most of these tanks were spotted during Arab Spring in 2011 and a few before. I've also spotted some in videos from 2013 and one MkII in front of T-62Es in 2018. It is unknown whether they are still in service. In 2018 Russian pages reported T-55/T-62 to be replaced by T-90MS.pic.twitter.com/0rsrrqBQZe

Chapter 4: T-55E MkII "Ramses" Developed in the mid 90s and finished by 2008, this upgrade features M68 105mm gun (US version of L7), German 880hp engine, communication antennas, Italian fire-control system, smoke launchers, stabilizer and AEG IR/White searchlight.pic.twitter.com/WnLH8bWB8j

I think the M113 is the command vehicle as there is only 1 or 2 of them compared to at least 4 T-55 carriers in the section. There are also more modified M548 vehicles. M109 uses seperated ammo so maybe T-55s and M548 carry each different part. I haven't found any info on them...

M109s were in service long before Egypt started phasing out some of the T-54/55 tanks and already had plenty of M992 ammo carriers as well, so maybe to support domestic factories? They as well could be command vehicles? Although 4 command vehicles is a lot for M109 section.

This decision is surprising as Egypt mass produced M992 ammo carriers (specially designed for M109). Top structure is new design though. One would expect Egypt to modify the top structure of M992 to fit on T-55 chassis (domestically produced SPH-122 is based on M109 chassis).pic.twitter.com/EUwqJgWEaj

Chapter 3: T-54/55 ammunition carriers Egypt has decided to convert chassis of some of the phased out T-54/55 tanks into ammo carriers for M109 self-propelled howitzers. Screenshots are mine from oficially released videos. As usual any info or more photos are welcomed.pic.twitter.com/5PxyS3dENZ

Some of the tanks participated in 1973 war. Previously equipped with Telefunken IR/White searchlight, more boxes/attachments and antenna were added to sides of turret since the war. Some have Iskra laser range-finder and some have different type of laser range-finder.pic.twitter.com/qpxDGwtQ3g

Only pictures of recent years I have are from Milinme blog from 2011, Aswan city (confirming they served in Southern region units). They have old camouflage introduced in 1973 war while some have simple light sand colour. Some tanks have unit markings, the others don't.pic.twitter.com/q6pb2u2LaH

Chapter 2: T-54E Milinme blog calls these as T-54E Model 1951. Wikipedia doesn't mention these upgrades at all even though T-54s made up majority of Egyptian army in 1970s. It's possible T-55E was unified term for both T-54E and T-55E tanks, however upgrades are different.pic.twitter.com/11UaJjjZpt

As for colours, they mostly appear to be in lighter sand colour although few examples have more yellowish sand colour. Colour markings are rare as well as only some of the tanks have numbers painted on them.pic.twitter.com/LQMoti2THV
