We were pleased with the prompt reply and completion of our oven repair. After being ignored for six weeks by the repair service recommended by the stove manufacturer, we looked at Angie’s List. We called 10X Repair Service and they immediately responded.

THE STOVE TOP VENT WAS SAID TO BE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER AND ALTHOUGH A PIECE OF THE SYSTEM HAD COME OFF (A PIECE OF MOLDING), I WAS TOLD THAT IT DIDN'T MATTER AND IT DID NOT NEED ANY FIXING. THE VENT TODAY DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY AND IS OVERLY LOUD. THE DISPLAY PANEL ON THE OVEN DIMMED AND EVENTUALLY WENT OUT. UPON INSPECTION BY VIGIL APPLIANCE, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE OVEN, TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX, AND THAT I SHOULD GO BUY A NEW OVEN. I WAS TOLD THAT WAS THE CHEAPEST OPTION. I PRICED A NEW OVEN (DOUBLE BUILT IN; $2500.00). I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER DIRECTLY, BOUGHT THE NEW PANEL FROM A LOCAL DISTRIBUTOR FOR $125 AND INSTALLED IT MYSELF. THE OVEN AND DISPLAY PANEL ARE IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER.

Our oven had quit working a few months after buying our house. After spending nearly $1000 with another company, only to have the stove stop working after a single use, I contacted C&A Brown. We found a mutual time to inspect the device within a week - and he explained each each step he was doing (I had told him about my prior experience). We identified the part, sourced it, and had a working stove 2 weeks later! C&A was professional about their scheduling and their work.

APPLE STOVES

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. I purchased an O'keefe and Merritt double oven stove from Apple Stoves. After reviewing their web site I paid a $4000.00 deposit for the recondition/refurbishment of the stove. After 2 1/2 months the product that was promised was sorely lacking. I took the stove to another antique stove repair and had them correct what Apple was supposed to do. The difference in service and pride in workmanship is unbelievable. Old insulation was left in, wiring was a tangled mess, they never cleaned years of grease off of the frame as their web site claimed. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE

Very good experience. Scheduling was easy and quick, and Rich was able to diagnose the problems with my stove pretty quickly. I had one burner that would not ignite when the knob was turned (but would ignite if other knobs were set to lite); the problem was a fault in the wiring from the knob to the ignition switch (it was the most-used burner). The solution was to replace the wiring harness that connects the knobs. Rich knew exactly what part to get, and was able to pick it up in SF the next day, and return to install it the day after (he didn't have that particular part in his truck, my stove is a bit older). FYI, part cost was about $81 for the whole harness, you can't just replace for one knob on this model. My oven had also been running cool, and not coming up to temperature quickly. RIch was very helpful and explained the way that the stove really worked (most of them do not come up to full temperature by the time the "preheat" signal goes off- it doesn't matter much for a casserole, but for baking the difference can be noticeable). He used one of his oven thermometers to compare to the one I had been using to test, and reset the calibration of the stove via the electronic controls. He checked back the next day to see if the oven seemed to be working more as expected- it does seem to be much closer to the set temperature. It is clear that Rich is an expert in repair- the rare person (nowadays) with enough experience to know how well the manufacturer-recommended repairs *really* work, and able to advise on simple maintenance that can head off much more expensive repairs later. I would recommend him without reservation.

Tony answered my first phone call and gave me an appointment the next afternoon. He offered to try to squeeze me in that day, but I told him that wasn't necessary. He called me within the 3 hour appointment window he had given me and said he might be a bit late and then called to tell me he was on his way. He fixed my oven problem, adjusted and cleaned the burners as well, and gave me some pointers on the pilot lights. He was very competent, clean, friendly, and informative. I thought his price was reasonable.

Noe came out, diagnosed problem with my stove. Ordered part on 2/25/21 and I paid for it along with labor cost to replace part. I texted Noe on 4/21/21 and 4/27/21 and he replied he couldn't get the part. He didn't respond to phone calls (7/7/21 and 10/13/21) so I texted again on 11/29/21 but no response. Noe completely ghosted me. I emailed company on 2/24/22 (one year later) asking for refund of part and labor that I never received, no response. I ordered the part myself - it was in stock and got here in 9 days). Still no response from Noe/Oceanview Appliance as of May2022. I don't have much money and Noe at Oceanview Appliance stole $490.34 from me. Melinda Kehn, Aptos CA

It needed a new control panel which is over $200. I was ok with that, but not the $285 in labor to install it. I ended up buying a new range. My dad and a friend also used them, labor was very high and in my friends case due to the quote bought a new washer. Now I wonder if everything is a control panel issue and if there is a cheaper fix. My stove was only 3 years old. I would ask up front what their hourly labor rate is.

They did not actually come out for a service. The person I spoke with was very knowledgeable. I explained the stove I had and what had happened. He was able to launch in to a full description as to what could have happened and what I needed to do to calibrate the oven temperature. He was very helpful and responsive. He was also very friendly and professional.

My tenant called to say that the oven did not light properly and they smelled gas when trying to operate the oven. I called Asien's after asking a friend in real estate if they could refer me to a reliable company for help. Asien's responded quickly and handled my call professionally. I was very satisfied with their service.

I needed an appliance repair person to fix my parent's oven. I wanted to do this for them for Christmas. I live in MO and they live in CA. I found Luan on Angie's lilst and called him. He had no issues that I was in another state. Then I was very surprised when I received a phone call in the afternoon that the oven was already fixed! My mom said he was very punctual and very nice. He fixed a bad bearing in the oven. The total repair for his time (he had to wait for the stove to heat up to determine problem and then cool down to fix) and parts was only $169. I would highly recommend him for any and all appliance repairs!

As I prepare to call John again for another issue with one of our appliances, I'm reminded of how long he's been our repair guy. Since 1998, we've used him exclusively to repair our stoves and ovens. First a vintage O'Keefe and Merritt in our first house, and more recently our 50's Wedgewood-Holly built into the kitchen wall of our current house. He's fantastic, knows these old stoves inside and out, and is careful, meticulous and very skilled. I love that he keeps these old stoves running smoothly, but remind everyone that he works on contemporary appliances as well and is just as talented. I have a Westinghouse dishwasher that howls for attention. Not too old, but out of warranty for several year's now, and next on John's repair list for us. He's honest, personable and very knowledgeable.

Great responsiveness when I called by phone. Came out next day to diagnose the problem. Did not charge me for this time and spent some time testing out oven temperature. However Dee did not show up until after the appointed time window on both occasions. I did get a call near the end of the time window to say he was running late. He did not dispose of used parts or test to make sure repair was successful. One of the parts I wanted but I didn't want the other garbage. He otherwise cleaned up after himself. He also replaced a stove top cover (easy while oven apart) with a cover I had on hand without charge. Repair fixed problem.

Everything went very well. I know it was an easy "fix" for the service person, but he came in, knew just what to do, moved the stove, and when he was done, put the stove back in place. There were no problems.

WE WOULD HAVE TO BE ASSURED THEY WOULD NOT DROP THE BALL AGAIN IF WE EVER HAD THEM DO WORK FOR US AGTAIN.

We were unable to find pros for your Oven Repair project in San Jose, CA

However, we may have pros in another category that can help with your project.

Our first piece of advice: do not attempt common oven repair work yourself.

Stoves are marvels of time-saving efficiency. When a stove breaks, your family suddenly has to rely on cold sandwiches and the kindness of strange eateries. Seek prompt, professional oven repair and say goodbye to expensive take-out meals.

Common Oven and Stove Problems

Most household ovens and stoves work off of 220-volt outlets, not the type most appliances use (120-volt). The increased voltage makes a stove a more electrically robust challenge for parts failure and repair.

Three common problems:

  • Your electric stove will not heat — When calling a stove repair service, be specific: is only one burner not working, or do all of them refuse to heat?
  • Your electric oven will not change heat — This is a control problem, in which an infinite switch that regulates electrical power levels is malfunctioning
  • Your gas stove will not light — No click? Defective ignition switch; click and a smell of natural gas? The pilot light is out; no flame and no smell of gas? You may have a clogged valve

Which Parts Fail?

The control panel of a stove sleekly hides a myriad of wires, switches, relays and other parts, any one of which could go bad while the rest of the control board still works.

Besides the previously discussed ignition switch, infinite switch, and clogged gas valve, these parts are also prone to fail:

  • Oven sensor — Your oven reliably baked cakes, but now the centers are gooey; your sensor is probably broken
  • Oven no longer self-cleans — Your oven control board is faulty; bake/broil circuits are starved of voltage
  • Spark modules, spark wires, spark electrodes — When your gas stove's burners will not light, these components are no longer working together

Costs of Oven Repair

Electricians and appliance repair services charge between $45 to $120 per hour for stove or ove repair (or similar kitchen appliances)

In addition, expect a site service charge (what you pay to have someone drive out) of $150 to $200 per visit.

This means a typical oven repair or stove troubleshooting job could cost from $1,000 to $1,200. Some homeowners may be tempted to tackle oven repair themselves, but Angie's List advises against this, since the risk of shock or a short in a 220-volt circuit is too great.
