Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Rick Sanchez (journalist)

Reason: the protection is no longer necessary because it hasn't been touched for over a decade, citations are littered with dead links and it should be updated Davetheirishguy (talk) 19:19, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

@Davetheirishguy. The page was protected in December 2016 due to persistent violations of our BLP policy. There have been no edits by IPs since then because the page is semi-protected but there have been dozens of edits by auto-confirmed users. You are auto-confirmed so are able to update the dead links if you are so inclined. Nevertheless, pinging Drmies for your input please. Malcolmxl5 (talk) 23:22, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Malcolmxl5, I don't know. Hit or miss. If you unprotect and the BLP-violating vampires return, we'll protect it again, but it certainly was distasteful. Drmies (talk) 00:35, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
@Drmies. Actually, looking at the history more closely, the BLP violation was restored in September 2017 until Davetheirishguy removed it yesterday saying the citations were dead links. Malcolmxl5 (talk) 03:00, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
yes, that is correct, I took them out, the Miami Herald and Sun-Sentinel articles that were cited were links to "Page Not Found" messages, not even archived or paywalled articles. Davetheirishguy (talk) 11:52, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Malcolmx15, I see that now--thanks. "restore DUI incident, see talk page" is kind of crappy, particularly without anything other than one comment from a different editor. Very disappointing. Davetheirishguy, thanks. Drmies (talk) 13:30, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled

User:NeverTry4Me

Reason for requesting autopatrolled rights - Signed by NeverTry4Me Talk 07:11, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

Though I was blocked for a few days, 2 months before, since then I am successful with AFC submission. Who else than users like me, will understand how to create articles eligible for Wikipedia? I am asking for a probationary period of 15 days.- Signed by NeverTry4Me Talk 07:15, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Automated comment This user has had 1 request for autopatrolled declined in the past 90 days ([1]) and has created roughly 16 articles. MusikBot talk 07:21, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
@MusikAnimal so what? Eligibility depends on hard work, not by automated tools. Wikipedia:Autopatrolled says " A suggested standard is the prior creation of 25 valid articles, not including redirects or disambiguation pages, but the right is not normally given to very new editors regardless of the number of articles created."
Hence, I have requested after thoroughly studying the Wikipedia:Autopatrolled rules. - Signed by NeverTry4Me Talk 07:40, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
NeverTry4Me, checking XTools, I see 15 articles created by you, six of which have been deleted so we can only really consider the nine undeleted ones. You are aware that the suggested standard is 25 articles: why are you applying for this user right at this point? Girth Summit (blether) 09:13, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
@Girth Summit I have applied because now I have realized and understood (after my AFC submission accepted) how AFC works. However, I honor your decision as well as others' decision. - Signed by NeverTry4Me Talk 09:32, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Not done The threshold for autopatrolled is very different than having an article accepted at AfC. What we would be looking for is a long track-record of creating articles that not only don't get deleted, but which have no substantial issues with them which need to be addressed by other editors. Thank you for your contributions so far, but I'm declining this for now, and I would advise against reapplying until you have written at least 25 articles (not including any that get deleted). Girth Summit (blether) 10:01, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
@Girth Summit Thank you. I will re-apply after 90 days. :) - Signed by NeverTry4Me Talk 14:10, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
@NeverTry4Me: Just to reiterate what Girth Summit said, please do not reapply until you meet the minimum requirements, 90 days or not. They are minimum requirements and we only waive them in exceptional cases. It's also very unlikely you'll be granted autopatrolled if you have any more articles deleted. – Joe (talk) 14:18, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
@Joe Roe by 90 days, I will complete more than 30 AFC submisssions accepted. I am confident. Wish me luck. :) - Signed by NeverTry4Me Talk 14:46, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
I'm wondering whether you understand what Autopatrolled does - it has nothing to do with AfC submissions. You don't need to go through AfC - unless you're under an editing restriction I'm unaware of, you can already create articles directly. Autopatrolled is about bypassing the NPP review process, which is quite different. Girth Summit (blether) 14:57, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
@Girth Summit: The applicant is under unblock conditions (not listed at WP:RESTRICT) that mandate use of AfC. @NeverTry4Me: You are applying for many permissions that are inappropriate for you: rollback while acknowledging you cannot do antivandalism work, page mover, and new page reviewer. Please concentrate on something other than requesting permissions. Sdrqaz (talk) 10:40, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Thankyou, Sdrqaz - I was unaware of that. NeverTry4Me - that you made a request for the autopatrolled permission without mentioning the unblock conditions that you agreed to is concerning. You cannot be given a permission such as autopatrolled until such time as your editing restriction is rescinded - your first recourse would be to speak to the admin who unblocked you about that (courtesy ping to Deepfriedokra), but given that it was only put in place two months ago I would advise you to hold off until September at the earliest. Girth Summit (blether) 11:27, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
NeverTry4Me is doing much better in many ways, but I think this would be to early. Keep up the good work, but not at this time on the permission. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 12:35, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

User:Petewarrior

I have created 26 articles so far, and it would be great to have the next ones appearing on search engines more quickly. PetéWarrior (talk) 11:18, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

Not a regular here, but is that the purpose of autopatrolled? --Deepfriedokra (talk) 12:37, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
@Deepfriedokra: More of a side-effect: new pages are marked as {{NOINDEX}}, telling search engine crawlers to ignore them, until they're patrolled or for 90 days (whichever is first). – Joe (talk) 12:49, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Requests for new page reviewer

New page reviewer

User:Ingenuity

I'd like to help out with the new pages backlog. I first requested this permission a few months ago (my username was Wgullyn at the time) and was asked to reapply in a few months. Since then I've become an AFC reviewer and gained a lot more experience with CSDs. I have read through the new pages patrol tutorial and understand the requirements. Thanks, >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 19:21, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

@Ingenuity: I will let someone else make the final decision on whether it should be granted, but I think that some of your A1s in particular are not good enough, with Christopher C. Doyle being nowhere near. There needs to be some improvement with that criterion – it is being used far too loosely. Please take some time to re-read it – the title comes into play too. Ryan reffell (the content was "Ryan Reffell Actor" and a photo) was not a G11; Richard Y. Kim (content was the title and a website) being a G11 was a stretch; Matthew Matera should not have been tagged as an A7 (as a member of two notable bands). Sdrqaz (talk) 04:07, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

User:Akevsharma

for me right was granted for one month probation, I would like to continue. Akevsharma (talk) 00:25, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

User:Mako001

I've been an active RC patroller for a few months now and have got some AfC experience, and I'd like to expand my horizons into the new page feed. I've messed up enough CSD's to know how it works, and have a decent amount of AfD experience. I also have some experience with copyvios, and requesting the necessary action on those. I have familiarised myself with the workflow (and the whole process in general) for NPP, and often bear it in mind when viewing drafts, newly created articles and other pages in general.

If there is anything else that the reviewing admin would like to know, please don't hesitate to ask. Mako001 (C)  (T)  🇺🇦 12:11, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

I request for the page mover rights for the sole purpose of moving Ricardo Mayorga vs. Oscar De La Hoya to Oscar De La Hoya vs. Ricardo Mayorga. Why? Because the order of fighters are wrong. In the official fight poster, it is arranged as De La Hoya vs. Mayorga, with De La Hoya being written first. BlizzyBlizz (talk) 11:54, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

I have made nearly 200 edits in the main space and 900 plus total. I revert vandalism with WikiLoop Doublecheck almost every day. I have respond to semi-protected edit requests. Requests for rollback

Rollback

User:Amadeus1999

Hello! I frequently use pseudo-rollback for CV edits and copyvio reversion, and I've read at several locations like Huggle that the rollback with permission is (a lot) quicker, especially on larger/bigger pages, and seeing as I have way too many user scripts and gadgets turned on, this would really help as it frequently frustrates me to have to wait for the pseudo-rollbacks to roll through. Appreciate any feedback and consideration. Amadeus22 🙋 🔔 17:34, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Automated comment This user has had 1 request for rollback declined in the past 90 days ([4]) and has 156 edits in the mainspace. MusikBot talk 02:40, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
I'd like to add that I have near 1000 edits, but a lot of them are reverted and not noted because for example copyright revdels are completed, etc. Amadeus22 🙋 🔔 20:14, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
@Amadeus1999: Am I correct in understanding that your primary usecase for Rollback is reverting copyright violations? --Blablubbs (talk) 20:49, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
@Blablubbs: Hey, thanks for your response. No, that's not quite correct, I would use Rollback primarily for counter-vandalism and disruptive editing, my bad for not including it. A lot of my edits should reflect this too. The copyright violation stuff would be a secondary use case, I'm not sure why I wrote that primarily during the request for permission, brain fart I guess haha. Amadeus22 🙋 🔔 01:34, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
@Blablubbs and Fastily: Courtesy pings as my request may have been forgotten. Amadeus22 🙋 🔔 22:53, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
Your account is still pretty new (< 1 month), and I declined your last request ~2 weeks ago. For the record, rollback won't help you perform reverts faster than Twinkle would (not that you should be trying to go faster anyways). Given your relatively low number of contributions to the mainspace, I encourage you to spend some time actually editing Wikipedia (i.e. engaging in non-CVU activities) before applying for advanced permissions. -FASTILY 20:27, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
@Fastily: Not to be disrespectful but have you actually read my edit history at all? There's lots of non-CVU stuff in there... Amadeus22 🙋 🔔 03:24, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Unfortunately, yes. Looking at your talk page, you're clearly still learning about how Wikipedia works, and you also (incorrectly) indicated above that rollback is for reverting copyright violations. I'd rather not nitpick anymore than I already have, so let's just say that I'm not convinced you're ready for this tool. -FASTILY 03:32, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Could I request a WP:3O from another admin? I don't mean to force my way through here, I just really think it's not right and you lack proper arguments (in my eyes). Amadeus22 🙋 🔔 04:37, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Not done. Please see the notice at the top of this page. With only 156 edits to the mainspace, I don't think you have sufficient editing experience yet. Take a moment to check out what counter-vandalism is at WP:CVU, and if you decide you'd like to get involved, you can enroll at the Counter Vandalism Academy to learn more. — JJMC89(T·C) 06:08, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

User:CollectiveSolidarity

I have worked on honing my vandalism skills since my last request, but I would like to use this to access Huggle in order to improve them some more. I have been using Twinkle's rollback to revert edits, and I have been leaving warnings behind whenever I spot vandalism. However, I must disclose that I sometimes do not leave warnings when it might instead be disruptive editing. I leave a link to policy in edit summaries instead. CollectiveSolidarity (talk) 23:58, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Automated comment This user has had 1 request for rollback declined in the past 90 days ([5]). MusikBot talk 00:01, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
Sorry, but that's not good enough. Please ensure that you are always leaving warnings. If you are reverting good faith edits, then it's especially important to notify the editor; I recommend using tools such as Twinkle or RedWarn which makes this very easy. If you don't want to leave a template warning, that's completely fine, but you do need to leave a talk page message explaining why you reverted the edit. -FASTILY 02:28, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

So I have confession to make. I'm addicted. For about the past week I've spent a good portion of my days at work looking at the recent changes page. Reverting vandalism has sort of become a new hobby in a way, I guess my OCD to make things look right has finally come in handy. I am very interested in continuing to keep Wikipedia free of vandalism and this tool would make it a lot easier.
